Can anyone cast any light on these le Mans drivers?

 

Frank King 1928

Sid Hurrell was a regular on the British scene in the late fifties, with his TRs. He finished 11th in the 1956 Autosport 3 hours, and while he may not have been aware of the distinction, it was my first race meeting as a spectator, and he became the driver of my Dinky TR2.

The '? Turner' from 1929 might be Phil Turner, who ran in the 1929 Double Twelve in a Lea Francis and shared a Dixon Riley with Cyril Paul in the 1933 Brooklands 500 Miles. RF Turner is suggested on a couple of websites, but he was an Austin man - and I don't think he was racing that early anyway.

Sid Hurrell also raced Saab 93/96 in the British Saloon Car championship. SAH Accessories also catered for Saabs. My Saab 96 V4 rally car had an SAH exhaust system.

 

Alan Hutcheson raced a Riley 1.5 in the British saloon car championship, great rival to Peter Harper (Sunbeam Rapier) and Bill Blydenstein (Borgward). He later had raced a Galaxie.

'Antony Bevan' should be Anthony Bevan. He entered a Bentley* in the 1931 Brooklands 500, with the better-known Mike Couper as his co-driver. I see he's listed as having taken part in the 1931 Le Mans practice days, also with Couper, but in the race itself Couper's co-driver and entrant is said to have been one Gerald Bevan. :confused:

 

A driver called Bevan (no initial) entered a Bentley in the 1932 Brooklands 1000 Miles, but was a DNA - presumably the same one. There's also an initial-less Bevan among the competitors in the 1930 Inter-Varsity Trial, at the wheel of a Bugatti. An A Bevan is also recorded as a member of one of the teams in the 1937 LCC Relay: https://www.motorspo...-by-austin-team

JB Boulton's first name was James. He's also in the entry list for the 1935 RAC Rally, driving - as with his two Le Mans runs with Gordon Hendy - a Singer.

 

Just a guess, but given that association with Gordon Hendy maybe he was an employee of what is now the Hendy Group? https://issuu.com/de...s/hendy_history
