The implication of a 2nd Austin race terrifies me. Does this imply that they would move Japan back and have a South/North America quadruple header?! (well, yes, I reckon many other races from that bunch will drop, but still)
Surely only Shanghai, Turkey or Malaysia are logistically sound options.

There's a perfectly benign Tilkedrome at 4790 W. 16th St., Indianapolis, IN 46222.

Bring in Mugello
Stefano Domenicali & Toto Wolff were guests there last weekend. Just a coincidence?

Totto likes this.
Now, I read Malasia is not possible. What are the options? Turkey? A second race in Sochi or Austin?

Do we need a replacement? It’s not like we haven’t got plenty of races already - even with a few more inevitable cancellations, particularly in the Americas.

Singapore has been ruthless in terms of travel and border restrictions, so this is hardly a surprise. I have a couple of friends who live there and people are generally outraged at some of the government decisions.

We don't. It's been suggested that they stuck in so many races in case they had to cancel some, so finding a replacement is not critical.

Shame, but not a massive loss racing wise.

They are expecting more cancellations.
Additionally, FOM lost nearly a billions dollars in revenue last year due to the lack of race fees. I'm sure they are desperate to recoup as much of that as possible.
Personally, I wouldn't mind two races at COTA but I'd rather a race at Indy. If we have to have two COTA races, then they should make one of them a Sprint event.

No immigration to Singapore in October? That's a bad sign.
Anyhoo, Thruxton.

The bulk of that cash is given to the teams in the form of the prize fund. Unless a specific number of races are dictated by media/sponsor contracts unless a track pays near the going rate it’s not going to make sense economically for both the teams and FOM to have filler races. Particularly for a fly away.

Please make the replacement race Mugello.

Such a shame to not have Singapore again. I appriciate its for the right reasons though.
As for a COTA double-header - why not. After how they're trying to squeeze the circuit off the calendar in favour of Miami and Indy then I'd rather they get in some extra races there while they can.
And, if a COTA double is not possible, then call the Captain and ask if Indy is available.

Malaysia?
It's only 330 km / 200 miles from Marina bay circuit to Sepang circuit. Don't know if the conditions in Malaysia are so much different :s

I wonder if it because Austin will allow full grandstands and FOM are desperate for revenue.
Not sure how China is feasible, but China is so secretive have no idea on their border status.

So what the naming solution for COTA 2 then?
Grand Prix of Texas
Gulf (of Mexico) Grand Prix
Lone Star GP

Texas has been open 100% for a while. There is even a state reg that prohibits local control measures. COTA isn’t paying for a second race.

F1 doesn't typically get ticket sales. The circuit does.

COTA won't, to be certain. But the State might. I'm not sure if the statute would allow for the subsidy to pay for a second race though.
I also doubt Epstein will pay for a 2nd round of music acts to support the 2nd event.

IIRC the benefit is for a single event a year.
ETA: you know one way around that might be it’s not the US Grand Prix. Call it something else. Like the Willie Nelson Grand Prix.
