What are your impressions of Oliver Gavin as a an analyst so far? Do you think this is a rehearsal for him to replace Allan McNish on the FIA WEC broascast when Audi comes back?
I love Graham Goodwin, but I think he needs to leave him a bit more room.
Posted 13 February 2021 - 12:15
I read "ALMS" in the topic title and thought we'd suddenly gone back to being in the 2000s again.
Posted 13 February 2021 - 12:27
Well, that's the reason why the Asian Le Mans Series is generally known as AsLMS (or as Graham Goodwin puts il, 'AzzLumms'...)

You're right! I am so pleasantly surprised with Oli; he's a natural.
I too enjoy Graham's work but more room to Oli mate, c'mon.

Utterly impressed with Franco Colapinto, Fernando Alonso's protégé. Currently advised by Jamie Campbell-Walter. Getting the feeling I'm watching a future great...

The first race was ok - only 1 full course yellow half way through which meant lots of green racing.
That Oli did a good job on debut.
It will be interesting to see what changes tomorrow in terms of strategy etc.

Yes! He impressed me last year in the Toyota Racing Series over in NZ. Quick with a steep learning curve against top opposition. Interested to see how he evolves. A welcomed surprise to see him in this race.

Took me a couple of seconds to register ( even though I wrote the same name previously ) because my name too is Oli, but I am very keen to hear more of Oli Gavin in the future. It's like he's been doing this forever. Quality.
Going to enjoy tomorrow's race more so than today as Saturday's are not so race-friendly for me, but Sundays sure are. I just hope Gelael won't nuke another competitor out at the beginning again. And for this dreadful circuit, it was a nice, refreshing race.

Well that was a nice viewing. Especially as I don't know if the Daytona 500 can get run today, it's great to have a relaxing Sunday with a race on. Really don't like this track but you take what you can get. We have two rounds at Yas Marina next week. See y'all there.

Race 2 is in progress
I am liking the idea of Youtube races more and more. I got up late on a freaking cold Sunday morning, about three hours after the start. Did I miss anything? No, because I can watch the whole thing again and again, easily

ALMS Race 3 - just finished
Strange to have a Friday race - pit stops under full course yellows had a big impact.
Last round tomorrow

In fact, the "week-end" is Friday-Saturday, there

Race 4 is getting ready to go green in 20 minutes.
I completely forgot that the 3rd one was yesterday; shame as I was looking forward to watch both. But hey, Saturday is fine too.

Same, The beauty of Youtube is that I watched most of it yesterday after my work day

Colapinto is a real beast.
Told you,,,
Definitely getting the feeling that's a name we'll hear about in the future... and quite a bit.

On and Vandoorne is saying he's enjoying sportscars more than he thought he would. It seems he enjoys winning more than he did being just another random F1 guy.
In other words, he now knows The Secret, already known by people like Derek Bell, Allan McNish or Tom Kristensen (TK never did F1 officially, but came damn close with Minardi)...

Close finish in LMP2 with Jota just holding on.
Drama in the GTs as well
Hope all is well after the double Ferrari crash
A bit mad to have a championship over 10 days but it was fun.

Greetings GT souls.
We got our very first GT World Challenge race of the year getting underway at the top of the hour.
And it's in mythical GREEN Sonoma in the American Series.
Posting it here for everyone not really doing the entire IMSA thread as this is the main best GT series on the globe anyways.
Enjoy y'all.

The track is soooo... green.
Posted 06 March 2021 - 22:07
I can't believe how verdant and lush it actually is.
Those pictures of the grass weren't a fairy tale all along !

Sonoma is wine country. Imagine how the vineyards look now.I can't believe how verdant and lush it actually is.

I honestly am really happy to see a bigger, more robust field with depth than last year. And just am thankful for a first race in California since forever with International teams and drivers.
This is a boon and a good omen for this year, not just in our GT niche in Motorsport. I'll take every fortunate sign I can get.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Jordan Pepper is a guy I want to see in a proper car in the FIA WEC.

From Phillip Island no less. Quality content.

Yeah, I got my fix of Bathurst this year that we didn't have the 12 Hours with the Supercars and now the GTs.
I thought yesterday's late race pass for the win from SVG was intense stuff but this last lap blew it out of the water. Best race I saw Yasser Shahin do yet, top quality!
And hmm, it appears SVG is human after all. Can't literally win them all but he's having a beast of a personal year so far. Love it.
Thanks MrAero for being quick and giving with the shares this weekend; Cheers.

Super GT starts this weekend Who's excited?!
motorsport.tv is streaming qualifying and the race. No word yet if Red Bull or The Race has the YouTube stream.
Posted 10 April 2021 - 17:33
I was just trying to watch today's Super GT qualy at Motorsport.tv but it is premium content apparently
Posted 10 April 2021 - 17:44
I think motorsport.tv may have the exclusive rights if they're putting it behind their paywall... I hope they improve the commentary from the last time they ran it.
Posted 10 April 2021 - 18:11
Will just add that I've watched all of the Aussie GTWC races so far and have been reasonably impressed. The 2 Bathurst races were exciting and made up a little for no 12H international event so far... and its always nice to see GT cars at both Philip Island and Bathurst, two fantastic circuits!

What is it about Danish women SportsCar drivers.??!!
Michelle Gatting has been amazing at Monza in the Ferrari challenge this weekend.
Jp
Not just Danish women, I'd say Danes, period. KMag seems to have taken to IMSA like a duck to water.
The W Series's Fabienne Wohlwend (from Lichtenstein) is another one I want to see move up to the FIA WEC and/or IMSA.

I am fortunate enough to watch this race. It was a close, exciting race - 40 cars rushed in a short circuit feel like Nascar racing in short ovals.
