Official car launch on March 03, 2021

Car is the AMR21

Official website

Should be an evolution of last year's Racing Point, which in turn...took inspiration from, shall we say...the Mercedes W10. Expecting an Aston Martin green livery.

I'll be very interested to see how Vettel gets on with the car's handling.  If the spins of the last few years are gone, it'll be a bit damning towards Ferrari's chassis/suspension design.

Considering that neither Kimi nor Charles had issues with spinning the car on a regular basis, this comment of yours seems rather strange.

did Vettel spin a lot when paired with Kimi? Genuinely don’t recall. He did ha e a lot of issues last year, though. So if he doesn’t replicate that this year it would point to lack of confidence in last year’s chassis. Don’t see what’s strange about that.

In 2018 he had 3 or 4 spins and don't think Kimi had any, but Kimi did have 2 weird low speed spins at the hairpin in Montreal, 2014 & 2015.

Some speculation on how Aston Martin may have used their development tokens - https://www.motorspo...021-car/5367229

"Reflecting on the car, Szafnauer said: "We didn't have the normal latitude of development that we usually do, so from a philosophy standpoint running a low rake car, that's stayed the same. Although the philosophy is a carry over, we will still have a lot of new parts on the car, a lot of new aerodynamic development and even a new chassis for us as well. So although the car will be similar to last year it's predominantly new".

Looks like the car is called the AMR21. If a mod could kindly edit the title.  :)

Some of my fondest F1 memories have been of cars with the year in the name.

Is Cognizant the worst name given to an F1 team by title sponsor?

Not really, I just pretend it there for the meaning of the word rather than the business. Still, better than being sponsored by tobacco.

Is it just me or is the blister above the side pod much larger and in a different location to the one on the Mercedes? Or is it in the same place and the Aston's packaging is tigher?

Will Aston Martin be allowed to race Mercedes if they end up on the same piece of tarmac, or will we see more occurrences like Monaco 2018?

I think it's in the same location, but is longer.

Looks annoyingly good, but that was expected from the Mercedes B team.

I do like the livery, makes me almost want to root for them to do well...almost.

Their saving grace is that Seb isn't moving out of anyone's way.

Looks 0.5s slower then Merc, hence ~RB and few tenths ahead of Ferrari and McL.

With Vettel you will see this car has pace to be closer to Merc and RB, and even more then that considering he is missing few tenths from best drivers.

Is it a carbon copy of Mercedes? Wow, talk about looking similar.

Even the same technical gizmos in the chassis and bodywork.

Honestly, from a Mclaren fan... that looks awesome! Its tight as a nuns whatsit at the back, the bulge around the engine cover in the metallic green, just shouts power. Great looking car, looks fast and I'm sure it's going to be a really tough battle for 3rd again this year.

Interestingly, it gives us the first proper look at a floor with various 'bits' and 'teeth'... which I thought were outlawed, so not sure if that's the 'spec' floor or just for show? Bit confused, so maybe someone with more knowledge over the regs change will be able to shed some light on it.

It even has that nice bulge on the engine cover as its bigger brother

It would just mean that he didn't have the skill or talent to handle a more challenging car in terms of handling. If his teammates had the same issues, this might have some merit.

Its a beautiful car. Well done to the design team...unlike some others  :( .

The fact that is a spec of W11 was expected

The huge difference to me is  that their weakness of not being able to develop a last years Merc their own to match teams like Ferrari or Mclaren R&D

is not going to affect them that much this year. All teams will stop developing early.

That plus Vettel ,if they start strong i expect them to holdout even better than 2020. They would be 3rd if no penalty.

Love this colour scheme. Reminds me of the Jaguar obviously. What with colours of the Alpine yesterday reminding me of the old Prost blue, I feel like I'm back in the early 00s.

Surely it must be the W10 chassis they ran last year given the freeze? Or are AM allowed to upgrade to last years W11?

Good question, they might have used tokens to "upgrade" parts?

Idk to be honest.

Weren’t they allowed to basically run a W11 token free, as all the parts had already been used the previous season?

I was under the impression they got a free rear end Merc upgrade.

You’re right, they are allowed to upgrade the rear without spending any tokens, they spent their tokens on a new survival cell and side impact structure. It’s all in the article below:

Yep- sure I recall some mention of that last season re. token spend.  AM are playing the system well.

Having to work with that company's software contractors has driven me to more cigarettes than any F1 car painted like one ever has, to be fair.

Agree. But in principle such system is so wrong and puts teams into disadvantage. This idea is as doomed as the whole engine "token" was at start of hybrid era. These guys dont seem to learn.

Alfa Romeo and Haas were already using 2020 Ferrari components, and this rule allows Alpha Tauri to upgrade to 2020 Red Bull parts for this season too.  It wasn't a loophole that only helps RP/AMR

Also, if I'm remembering it right, all the teams had to vote to OK this as a token free change.

You have two voicemail message.

First message.

"Hello Mr Wolff, it's me again, Jos V..."

*skip*

Second message.

"Yo Toto, it's your buddy Lawrence. We've run into a bit of a tight spot over 'ere and we're not going to make our launch deadline. We need a high detail 3D render for our car launch. Could you send an ol' pal the W12 autocad files? We'll just change the hue on the paint job and slap our sponsors on there. No one will notice. Cheers mate. Oh and we have an updated schedule for delivery of your Valkyrie..."

All jokes aside, I really like the livery. Don't mind seeing it on track and am genuinely excited to see what Seb can bring to the team.

On the other hand I wasn't a fan of the copying last year and am still not this year.

Yeah not a fan of the copying nature again, but the livery is gorgeous. That green and pink really works. I think that's my favourite livery of the last few years.

I'm surprised at the apparent surprise that it looks like the Merc.  Last year was based on the Merc with some minor differences.  So with the token system and them still carrying the Merc engine and also taking last years Merc rear end.... what were people expecting?  Aerial views of the McLaren look very similar to the Merc with the shrink wrapping over the engine. There are differences in the AM.  It's not a carbon copy.  And once again the Haas will look very similar to the Ferrari, and the Toro Rosso will carry a lot of the Red Bull design cues.

As long as he sings like Jeremy Clarkson and drives like Sir Tom Jones, he'll be fine.
