I had a chat with a very helpful Jay Signore about the International Race of Champions and he mentioned a photographer called Jim Cutler who hailed from Reading, Pennslyvania who took pictures. I was talking to Jay about the 1977-78 season. Does anyone know if Cutler's pictures are still around?

You might check with the Henry Ford Museum.

They bought out entire collections, including a few shooters I know of. I almost sold them ours, but one researcher they used — and who PRed himself here on TNF — was not very honest... though the Museum probably never knew of his disingenuous methods.

Thank you @E1pix. I have contacted them. Do you have pictures of Gunnar Nilsson? That's who I'm working on and he raced IROC in 1977.

My dad absconded the camera (his) the only time we saw Gunnar (Watkins Glen, 1977).

I recall a frame of him walking along the track after breaking, but it is not scanned and is not likely to ever be scanned.

I have well over 10,000 unscanned images of racing alone. The worst of tech, in my field anyway, is just this: the effort drastically outweighs the gains and I’d rather be doing something else. Plus we live on the road now and the film doesn’t. ;-)

I was originally offered “$5 to $25 an image” by the Ford “rep.” Once we started to really move forward, that “rep” claimed he’d offered “5 to 25 CENTS.” Total BS, end of deal.

Sorry I can’t help.

Cutler regularly hung out around the Penske Racing shop in Reading. Drove a Corvette with a licence plate that read “Horn Dog”. I heard that he had died some years ago.
