Incredibly sad news. She was great and seemed absolutely lovely.

I’m very sad to hear of the passing of Sabine Schmitz, the only woman to have won the #Nürburgring24Hours, rightly known as ‘Queen of the Nürburgring’, & a star of @BBC_TopGear, who’s succumbed to cancer, aged just 51. #RIPSabineSchmitz

The Nürburgring has lost its most famous female racing driver. Sabine Schmitz passed away far too early after a long illness. We will miss her and her cheerful nature. Rest in peace Sabine!

Oh God, that's awful. Like lots I guess I was introduced to her via Top Gear. She was brilliant.

Bloody hell, what a shock. Introduced to her first when she was throwing a transit van around the Nurburgring and she always seemed to be a great woman with fantastic passion for motorsports.

Absolutely saddening and shocking, out of nowhere  Loved the Top Gear segments with her and Clarkson/May/Hammond. Rest in peace.

Terrible news, I was just looking her up on Google yesterday as I hadn't heard anything about her for a while, I read online a couple of years ago that she had cancer but hadn't heard anything since. Rest In Peace Sabine.

This is so sad to hear; I didn't even realise she was ill.

What a great driver and personality she was.

So sad. She was awesome on Top Gear and genuinely added lots of natural humour to the show. Rapid on a track too! 😞

What an awful week this has been. I enjoyed seeing her on the new version of TG since Clarkson left, wasn't aware she'd been on it during his era as well. RIP.

RIP Sabine. If there is a Nürburgring in the sky you will find some worthy rivals.

RIP Sabine, your energy that I saw at TopGear made me more motivated in many more things that I had to confront,...

Not much to say other then how sad it must be for her family and loved ones.

She certainly lived in such a short span many lifetimes compared to many. Glad we were so fortunate to have gotten to know her a little bit from top gear.

Oh no  Loved the videos of her going round the 'ring.

I always told my co-workers "get a driving lesson from Sabine Schmitz" when they were trundling along with the rental cars while on a business trip. No none had heard of her until I showed them a youtube video, then they were all mightily impressed!

"I can do that time in a van!" as she mocks Jeremy Clarkson is etched in my mind.

Very, very sad. 51 is so young. RIP.

This is such sad news.

Sabine was a role model for women in motor sport.  She took on the men on equal terms, asked for no special treatment and gave as good as she got.  And all done with infectious good humour and cheerfulness.  Her Top Gear appearances were always a real treat, especially when she was putting Clarkson firmly and funnily in his place.

Horrible news. :(

As things to be known for go, going around the Nurburgring full pelt in a van is up there with the quirkiest. She must have had a lot of fun over the years!

Desperately sad news. Sabine was, by all accounts, a lovely lady – my dad used to do a lot of work around the Abbelen factory back when her longtime partner Klaus still owned the company, so he met her once or twice. Had nothing but good to say about her.

I know corner names are almost sacred at Nurburgring, but maybe in this case... what better tribute?

This was very moving to rewatch. Being able to stand back and say that no, there's no point to doing it again because you know you have already given it your absolute all, is something to aspire to.

Rest in peace. :well:
