i like how most of the outrage focuses on Bottas being highly rated and not on how Leclerc is almost a midfield driver, even below the dude he destroyed last year.

This.

Ricciardo with a 90 overall (1 less than Norris) is also shambolic. But nobody's batting an eye at that. Always, always about Bottas.

Alonso and Vettel rated the same, and both higher than Leclerc, as well as Tsunoda having quite a high rating along with VB is what stood out from a quick browse through those.

I guess they decided on these ratings before this season? That would explain Ricciardo's score a little anyway.

Other than that, yeah, everyone's always after the Mercedes boys.

I like how Ocon outscores Alonso in racecraft and awareness.

LeClerc is the biggest oulier for me as well. Gasly a tad high, Bottas probably a tad high. It'll be difficult to get everything right, but I think in general it's not too bad?

Experience is actually the only 1 where I think they have quite a simple (logical) formula behind on how it's done? He has exactly the same as Sainz and they did start in the same race...

It's probably too simple though, because I think they rate it liniear which obviously doesnt make a lot of sense as experience in the first years should be rated higher than experience gained in latest years. In their definition, I think year 1-2 is worth the same amount of points as year 13-14.

Doing the math, they give 5,9% of the overall rating to experience, 19% to racecraft, 21,7% to awareness and 53,5% to pace.

Agreed, how on earth have they got Norris so high if these are based on before the season started.  Well spotted...

Out of interest, do these values have consequences for the AI in the game itself? (Are there other hidden ones?)

I'll never understand the Awareness attribute and how they come up with the ratings for it.

I'd presume so, what else would be the point of them?

We need the "icon" drivers as well for max meltdowns. Bottas 92 Rosberg 89 still makes me laugh.

The only stat that makes sense is probably experience which I asume is based in number of seasons in F1.

So Russell has less pace than Tsunoda. Is pace supposed to represent the pace of a driver or the pace of a driver + car combination? :p

Can someone explain me what "awareness" is supposed to represent?

It wouldn't surprise me if these numbers were made up purely to put out on social media for people to argue about them/talk about the game more.

In fact, I'm certain that's all it is.

apparently it means avoiding mistakes and penalties

which makes some 99 scores utterly hilarious

even that is not quite, Latifi has apparently more experience than Giovinazzi

but yeah, its the most logical category of them all

I've already seen those a few weeks ago on one of the youtube channels.

I don't know how they came to a conclusion that Senna and Prost should be equal on pace but Senna should have an edge in racecraft. Hasn't Senna always been the archetype driver for pace and Prost for racecraft?

I always enjoy a forum going into meltdown. It's about time someone else gets their AI to rank drivers across history. I haven't seen one of them for a while.

There are bigger things to get worked up about. Bit like when NFL players get all upset about their Madden ratings - I thought they were supposed to be adults?

At least Button and Rosberg are champions.

Nice.

The experience bit actually seems to be the only good stat overall for each driver. They score consistently depending on seasons completed.

I can see some logic there. Look how they are presented.

The first row is all-time greats.

The second row is one-off champions.

And the third row is non-WDC race winners.

They all have similar ratings and salaries within each row and significantly different between each row.

I guess they wanted some gradation and "lesser" drivers so that you have more variety of drivers to hire.

They were cheaper to license than Villeneuve, Häkkinen, Mansell and Hill? (to use the WDC's over the last 30 years that's not in the game)

...because they agreed to licence their name and appearance for the game and Codemasters are not going to randomly categorise their extra drivers to appease a random fan's expectations.

Anyway, Brazil 2008 and France 2000 are absolutely iconic moments from both of them.

Interestingly, all four of those were in F1 2013.

It all depends on licencing agreements.

Bottas is the worst score, but there are several laughable ones

Overall rating - Leclerc 88 - Vettel 89
Overall rating - Sainz 87 - Norris 91
Racecraft - Alonso 89 - Ocon 93 - Stroll 93 - Vettel 93

Also, Prost same pace as Senna... Yeah no

Leclerc is too low and Bottas too high - but I don’t think they’re as appallingly off as they have been in previous years.

if there was a single person who had some knowledge about Formula1 in Codemasters company, he/she wouldn't have allowed those utterly incorrect ratings to come out.

I was thinking about making a survey for Autosport Forums users to see how we would rate these drivers. Unfortunately, I can't find any convenient survey tool online. Some 12 years ago I was using a tool that was miles better than anything I was able to find today. It was totally free and very easy to learn how tu use to its full potential. Sadly it's defunct now. 12 years later and it's so much more difficult. Go figure. :drunk:

To be fair there were only 2 reactions yet at the point you posted and its definitely the biggest outlier, followed by Leclerc.

Nice.

Compared to everyone else' score its pretty much on the mark though (Sainz is also on 69 btw). Only the ones well in their 30's seem to get high ratings in this category. And Max has had only one year experience pre F1 if thats taken into account as well.

Considering Sainz has exactly the same rating as Verstappen, I doubt it... :)

Probably not, since Sainz had more experience in single seaters than Verstappen.

I still don’t get where Codemasters found out Bottas has 99 awareness? Have to say it’s good to see an improvement on Norris and Gasly though. In the 2020 game they didn’t score enough points when doing a world championship season.

Right. I guess if one year in F1 equals around 3-4 points of experience you more or less can explain the differences, starting around 45 and with the early years closer to 4 and later years closer to 3.

They have the same amount of F1 seasons. Why would Verstappen get a different experience per season than Sainz?

These ratings convinced me never to buy an F1 game from Codemasters as they lazily couldn't do a little homework to learn each driver's strengths or weaknesses.  What an insult to F1.

twitter exists yknow

I say the biggest outlier besides Leclerc is Gasly (similar lol like Bottas) and the difference between Sainz & Norris. Also Kimi's is a total joke: now thinking of it it might be the worst.

Codemasters rated them according to their cars and not their actual skill set. And on Kimi they were just drunk.
