Last night on C5 there was a programme called "Draining Loch Ness" about a recent search for Nessie.  They found the wreckage of Crusader about 600 feet down. I hadn't heard that before.  Looks much in the same state as Bluebird but of course much deeper.

Let's hope Bill Smith does not try to raise it!

Interesting conclusion as to what caught Cobb out and also the explanation of the monster.

See Steve Holter's superb book which covers the wreck's discovery in wonderful detail...as it does the analysis of poor Cobb's terminal accident.

Took a while to find until I realised that it might be a sub-division of "Drain the oceans" last Friday.

The wreckage has been designated a "Scheduled Monument" by Historic Environment Scotland. I don't know what legal standing this would have if someone tried to recover it. And presumably someone, somewhere has a claim to it?

It is an offence to damage, carry out work or allow anyone to carry out work on a scheduled monument without consent from the appropriate authority. In this case Historic Environment Scotland.

Legally it is the same as trying to remove Hadrian's Wall or Edinburgh Castle, in whole or in part.

When at Edinburgh  Castle some workers were removing a very small piece of it in their work.

Sorry, a bit late to the thread.

I can confirm the wreckage has the protectection of several Scottish departments, and diving on, let alone recovery of Crusader is very unlikely.

There has been some talks going on regarding a television documentary based on the book Crusader, and the names "Bluebird" and Bill Smith, came up quite a lot, and as such quite a few more precautions have been taken.

As an aside, "Crusader" has been entered in to the RAC Motorsport Book of The Year, so I have quite a big smile on my face!!
