Bonjour y'all.

2022 season threads have started appearing and it is time to start talking about our new NEXT GEN stock car for our favorite Ovalcar Cup series.

NASCAR-NextGen-cars.jpg

Yup, Gen 6 is done and dusted and it is time to look ahead to a fresh era of silly stockcar shenanigans.

2021-April6-DarlingtonNextGen-main.jpg

Kyle Larson won in absolute legendary fashion, and even if yours truly wanted his main dude to win, it does mark a triumph over this system and assaults our common sense and soul for most of a year's Sundays.

Either way, I am looking forward to a better, healthier relationship with Motorsport as a whole and I welcome these new cars hoping that the governing body at least bumps the power up to a 670 package.

For more info, I shall now post a deluge of fine quality Nascar youtube videos here in the OP to get you back in the game get the discussions going.

There are just 78+1 (*wink*) days until 02/20/22 ( US date format ) to the Daytona 500!

So mark your calendars and get your schedules ready:

EURONASCAR? First I've heard of it... I guess it can compete with the dying DTM, but my "instant hit" bell is not ringing.

I honestly have no idea why Toyota didn't go with the Supra.

The series has been running since 2009.  It’s niche but pretty solid.  It’s not too expensive.

Isn't that more like a Rallycross car ? They already have the Supra in Xfinity.

Btw, EuroNascar is pretty dope. Quite niche but growing and getting better venues slow and steady. One Jahk Vhinuv won the last two races this year:

Have to admit I've gotten into the tintops lately-  used to only watch the road races.   Have to admit on the ovals I usually FF to the last 20 laps or so  (but I've been known to FF thru some F1 races now and then)...  the good old boys won't like the centerlocks!!  :)

Went to the Xfinity and Cup finals in PHX and had a blast-  got up and close and personal to the cars, and Larson did his "Polish" burnout right in front of us...   as a devoted open wheel fan, I'd love to see Larson do indy.

670 HP, 4 inch spoiler set for all tracks but the superspeedways and possibly Atlanta.

Brad's car at the Charlotte test gets my best paint scheme vote for the new car/number placement so far. His old ride, Discount Tire #2, not so much....

Agree. There is talk that Jahk is testing at Daytona next week, perhaps in preparation for a crack at the 500?

Threatened lawsuits and "Cancel Culture" accusations coming at NASCAR, which kiboshed a cryptocurrency sponsor for Xfinity driver/team owner Brandon Brown (of "Let's Go Brandon" infamy) that uses the LGB initials in its name, after the team said it had received approval for the sponsor from a NASCAR official. This news ain't going away any time soon.

Was Brandon Brown really toxic to sponsors before this?  Everyone seems to state it as a given, but it's not like he was the darling of sponsors before his win at Talledaga, and a single win at a track that has produced a lot of one-time winners isn't exactly a game-changer.

I’d seen that story.

Overall it’s good that NASCAR are willing to crack down on political sponsorship. But I just don’t see this as political. The sponsor itself doesn’t appear to be. Brown himself is having to deal with a meme created to cover for the political chanting on TV that he’s now stuck with. So it seems like a good idea to try to own it.

I was rather hoping they'd get to the point where campaign finance overtakes the real economy and every candidate for the US Senate has his or her own NASCAR entry.

Modern version of those Staten Island Oval rumors, though this one actually happened. NASCAR wants to be a 'big boy' sport and race in premium markets and etc.

Someone in NASCAR recently played the mid 00's EA NASCAR games and saw the Dodge Stadium track, figured it would be cool to do IRL  :cat:

This is what was called the Whelen NASCAR Euroseries, isn't it?  Very much niche in Europe, as in, hardly anyone has ever heard of it,

They are fooling themselves (or more likely trying to fool us) by claiming that Valencia Ricardo Torno, Most, Zolder and Grobnik are  "the most iconic tracks in Europe".  Even Hockenheim and Brands hardly merit that description!

Yup.

From what I could find though, the budget for a season isn't that high. To the point that if I ever have time and spare money to embark on any kind of "international racing adventure". It is actually one of the more realistic championships.

Is anyone else still not getting used to the name NASCAR "cup series" ?

It just sounds awkward. NASCAR should rename it the Winston cup series.

Since the brand Winston cigarettes is named after the town it started in, I think NASCAR should just use the Winston name and say that it refers to the town in N.Carolina. It's NASCAR country anyway.

Wiki
The brand is named after the town where R. J. Reynolds started his business which is Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Had to google this. So Sonoma will be the "normal" NASCAR-layout. Good.

Wondering how much of Speedweeks will be single file processions, especially the qualifying races where there's little to gain. Bob Pockrass story today mentioned drivers took chances during the test because there's a month to go, but there won't be that luxury in February.
