Gosh, we know the world has really moved on when we can watch the Birkett live on the internet!

I won't be going to Silverstone (getting over a few days of feeling unwell and want to be fit for the Formula Ford Festival) so thanks for the link, Mariner.

Mind you, at the recent 750 MC Mallory, even some of the practice for the historic 750 Formula race was online, and that's about as grass roots as it gets...

It was dry all race, it was 13 degrees C so not icy and a great day's club racing with over 200 cars.

One highlight was the amazing Cunningham " Le monstre" replica going out to do battle with a vat array of tiny ( by comparision) cars. See it go out at 1:31 on teh video link above.

The husband and wife team who built it are so dedicated and practical too. It rteired due to overheating leading to low oil pressure, and with a 70 old old basic engine better safe than sorry. It has already run at Le Mans BTW

Great stuff, so many different cars. Good camera work and commentary.

I have chatted to the Le Monstre owners several times and what a delightful couple they are, epitomising the bedrock enthusiasm for the sport. I know some of we ..umm ..ageing enthusiasts can get terribly worked up about recreations and continuations but I don't. The only way I was ever going to see Le Monstre on a race track was if a visionary like Derek Drinkwater created one.

Having driven the real car several times - I can only say I actually admire the replicator's taste...  Does it have five carburettor chokes and three on the tree?

And it's not as large as a current Formula 1 car!

I'd love to see it, and these features are a part of the car.
