Can include non-starters as technically they entered but never actually raced and tests that never went anywhere.

Clio Cup Racer Alex Morgan's father built NGTC Renault Méganes for 2014 but no one was interested.

Inspired by the GP Rejects article on the stillborn Brilliance WTCC entry of 2005 with the late John Batchelor at the helm.

That same year, MG Rover tried to enter the DTM before going bust. They got as far as signing Tom Chilton and other drivers linked to the team included Johnny Herbert, Anthony Reid and Jeroen Bleekemolen.

Maserati here in Oz. For Gp A. How much was media hype or potential competitor hype we will never know. But near certain it would have been a lemon anyway.

The SCV8 Supercar Series.  Would have been way better than the repmobiles of WTCC.  With the best will in the world, Seat v Lada v Daewoo is hardly calculated to get the blood flowing.

Like the Procar Series, which produced one car...

Ah, but what a car! It was essentially a 3.5 litre F1 Alfa with one of the thinnest and flimsiest plastic bodies I've ever seem.

Andy Rouse built a Peugeot 406 and a Jaguar X-Type as SCV8 prototypes.

Jonathan Palmer tried to launch the Touring 1 Series for 2005.

German Wolf Racing (not to be mixed op with Walter Wolf) developed afaik a Mondeo class 1 car for the DTM but couldn't run it because it was not backed by the factory and it was a "brand" championship.

Also Audi 80 and BMW M3 class 1 for the DTM. Tested but never raced.

The Pete Hall and Andy Rouse SCV8 series only had one car built, but two shells, the 406 and Jaguar.
Pete still owned the car until fairly recently.

The front runners of the 1988 British Rally Championship (Jimmy McRae, Mark Lovell, Malcolm Wilson, David Llewellyn and Dave Metcalfe) were due to race as part of a two driver BTCC race in 1988. However they were stopped as they did not have the correct licence.

More recently, I can't see Jordan King making his BTCC bow any time soon, not now that Motorbase have filled all their 2022 seats.

Sounds like a bit of an excuse to me. I'm sure the appropriate licences could have been arranged relatively easily. I was surprised to discover that Roger Clark was able to race in the TT and other events.

Well, that was the claim a user on the piston heads forum made, believable or otherwise.

Jimmy McRae did have a race licence as he raced at Ingliston In I think the Ecurie Ecosse Chevette.

I recall a Prodrive prepared Mercedes C class being readied for, I think 1993 or 1994. I am pretty sure a photo of the apparently finished car appeared in Autosport in a side on shot. I think Mercedes decided class 1 was the way to go and the project never raced.

Would be interested to hear about a Mondeo class one car, have never heard of that before.

The Prodrive Mercedes was intended for 1993 with Tim Sugden and possibly Bernd Schneider driving.

I just know about it from reading something in a magazin back then. I don't know if the car was actually build. The Wolf website mentiones a Mondeo 4x4 for the STW 2l championship that was dropped. Maybe the press mixed something up.

Ford themself started developing a Mondeo for the new DTM in 2000 but stopped after the prototype was build.

BTCC 1991:

James Weaver was intended to share the #44 Prodrive BMW with Steve Soper and Christian Danner. The team also intended to run a 3rd car for Jimmy McRae.

Trackstar originally intended to run a trio of Audi 80s for Robb Gravett, Mike Smith and Jonathan Palmer. The team then intended to run Smith and Sean Walker in Ford Sapphires alongside Gravett's entry.

Frank Sytner joined another BMW team and rumoured to be partnering Finnish driver Heikki Salmenautio (though, for some reason, Motorsport Magazine misspelled his name as Hakki Salamentio).

There was a rumour regarding a Honda Concerto making an appearance, either with James Kaye graduating from the CRX Series or Ray Armes, given he had recent BTCC experience with a Civic.

Rumours suggested a Renault and a Lancia would be appearing as privateer entrants.

Also, Alistair Fenwick and Tony Bardy were non-starters in their one-off entries in the #18 Pyramid Motorsport BMW and the Vauxhall Belmont later raced by Jeff Wilson.

A few Impalas were raced, Dan Guerney learnt the hard way about British motor lack of sport. That car I believe is in Australia.

Norm Beechey raced a 409 4 door. He has reowned that car for some period. A few were road raced in the US ofcourse and in Scandivania as well.

And then there was quite a few Ford Galaxies as well.

Bit unfair, the car was never properly homologated to race in the UK. Wonder if this is why the Goodwood authorities constantly make Jaguars MK 1 & 2 look hopeless by coming up with hot rods and freaks to beat them?

Hyperbole, dear fellow! There is enough room in a 20 foot shipping container for an Impala, two Austin Seven specials with wheels removed and three De Dion-Bouton tricycles.

BTCC 1993:

A Prodrive-run Fiat entry.

Paul Stewart Racing running the works Ford entry.

David Price Racing running Martin Donnelly in a Mercedes.

Prodrive continuing with the BMW before switching to the Merc mid-season.

Audi linked to a possible entry.

Perry McCarthy linked to Vic Lee Racing until Vic was arrested for doping.

An entry from the other Gareth Howell but can't remember the car he intended to use.

I'm mystified as to how something that is about not to happen in the future qualifies as 'Nostalgia'.

Several threads on this 'Nostalgia Forum' have recently been guilty of containing items which are demonstrably current,

and would perhaps be more appropriately aired elsewhere.

It still counts as a rumour that will have never happened in the long run.

From a Reddit user, regarding the 2001 British Touring Car Championship, but edited:

It was an absolute mess- one thing I remember is when BMP took over from TOCA they said that they had “verbal commitments” from Vauxhall, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Ford and Honda for full works efforts, and that Volvo and Rydell would compete towards the end of the year.

Turns out “verbal commitments” aren’t that binding.

The main thing I remember from the ‘01 silly season is how chaotic everything was. At one point it looked as if Class B would replace the Super Tourers, then Andy Rouse suggesting a V8 Supercars-style arrangement, then it looked as if the BTCC would be merged with BMP’s Powertour.

The late Mark Porter was supposed to be co-driver to Dale Brede in the 2006 Bathurst 1000. Michael Caruso took his place.
