The local SCCA chapter might be supporting the race. Contact them, they are usually looking for help.

I think he'd be better with us on the grid as maybe an enforcer to deter Martin Brundle or Наталья Фаб !!

Ya don't want him throwing a random yellow when LuLu's in the lead and all hell breaks loose cuz.... Autosport Forums  !?!?!

Now do we?

Like Peter Collins' job as Williams' chief chequered flag man wrestler at the 1982 Swiss Grand Prix.

Oh, that deserves a little more exposition.

He told the story on the Beyond the Grid podcast about how when Keke Rosberg was reeling Prost in for the win, the French official was readying the chequered flag to finish the race a few laps early. So someone dispatched Collins (who worked for Williams between stints at Lotus and Benetton) to keep an eye on him. Collins said he had to physically hold the official's chequered flag arm down! Good story anyway.

That’s only the first half of the story. The second part of the story was how, once Rosberg had taken the lead from Prost, the official didn’t wave the flag on the correct lap in order to give Prost more time to take back the lead. The race should have ended on lap 80, but the flag was waved on lap 81. Presumably Collins had to make that happen too.

The result was still taken on the correct lap through.

Ron Dennis missed a trick by not distracting Peter Collins to ensure Prost and Rosberg would continue racing indefinitely, while John Watson secured the title in Las Vegas.

This (working with a support race team or event support event organization) is the route I'd take. Moving pit equipment, tires in and out, wipe the cars down, gopher duty etc.

craig's list was the secret connection to get an interview to be paid 15 bucks an hour at the track

vs paying them 1200

less fun but a bit better income and at the race

Well done Ray! Please give us a review of the GP from the stands when it's all over. I also want to hear about how pleasant or rude the fans are.

Nice work Ray. That’s the way to do it

Now just make up a sign with an arrow and ‘sit down over there’ and hang it from your back while you watch the GP from the stands - and get paid for it

I think many of us have seen a race in a worse place, like me behind a tree trunk on a rock for example, than on a Grandstand and not being paid for it ;)  So well done Ray and have fun!
