TNFers at Goodwood FoS 2022?

Are any members of this illustrious forum planning to be at the Festival of Speed this year? Now we are back in the swing of "real" events, I'm looking forward to catching up with a few like-minded enthusiasts again (amidst the glitz and glamour of the party crowd).

Doing the usual Thurs/Fri swing.

Thur and Fri for me too. For me, 2021 was 'back to normal' - we had FoS, MM and Revival all within a few months and a sprinkling of other 'open' events too. Looking forward to catching up with the Le Mans-winning Glickenhaus team this year

I'm not one of those who is planning to attend, but has anybody seen an entry list? Isn't it usually out by this stage? The only things I can find is the theme (The Innovators - Masterminds in Racing) and some of the drivers planning to attend (Damon Hill, Henri Pescarolo, Jenson Button, Emmanuele Pirro, Tom Kristensen).

Haven't seen a full entry list, but I did spot something on Facebook - I think from a Goodwood account - which claimed that (among others) someone called Wayney Rainey [sic] would be there!

He is probably related to Nic Minsassian. 

But apart from that and that the whole article is a journalistic mess (not least using the expression "the small matter of x titles" twice), kudos to them for publishing an initial version of the list almost a month in advance and sometimes even updating it, I think this is great. In most previous years they only published a list 1-1,5 weeks before the event which I thought was really poor, so this is a most welcome development for me and I am grateful that they do it. Now I would just like to see Gérard Larrousse invited and sitting in a Matra with Henri Pescarolo. 

Talking about my wishes, I would absolutely love to see a Japanese celebration once. Sadly we lost Takahashi san recently but all the other local entries from those two Fuji races (Kuwashima, Takahara, Hoshino, Hasemi) are all alive and well and so is Hiroshi Fushida. I know Hasemi and Fushida have been there in the past but it would be so awesome to celebrate them together. Hoshino passed Regazzoni's factory Ferrari in a privately entered old Tyrrell at Fuji for third place, I can't imagine anything more Goodwood than to celebrate that drive!

In answer to the thread title...

Well as ever, it was a memorable experience and a massive credit to those who organized it. It did feel a little light on 'overseas' entries, but that's understandable. For me, the 'lost' Alfa 12C was worth the effort alone, and I will carry the impression of the McMurtry Speirling going flat-out everywhere for a long time - last year it was impressive: this year it beggared belief. These EV cars make an awesome sound, and they also allow one to hear the gasps of the spectators, which we've never experienced with internal-combustion-engine vehicles.

On the down side, it became annoying to constantly hear commentary referring to vehicles as "weapons", which seems crass at best; distasteful at worst. And less crass, but equally annoying, the references to streamlined cars being "aerodynamic" (which seems to be common use nowadays, so maybe I should just get over it) and the new (to me) phenomenon of "carbon fibre" brakes.

But these are petty niggles: I loved my two days there, and can't wait for 2023. Well done all.

And I am not a motorcycle fan !!

Will dig out some more tonight, I fear I was not photographically inspired, I know not why, perhaps because so many entries were familiar to me.  

I should not however be so continually surprised at how good the Style & Luxe displays are; although the Ferraris were usual suspects, the display of Austin 7s and micro sports cars was delightful, and the Bucciali semi-chop-top sumptuous.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the reason for the double rear tyre arrangement on the Auto Union? I don't think I've seen any in-period photos of the rear end in that configuration.

You seem to be bearing up quite well after so much weekend suffering, Mr Nye .

I like o think the yellow ENB P2/3 (?) in your Ferrari paddock shot is the same car as this one snapped at a Le Mans Test Day.

If so, the car's lasted better than the pic. Apologies for the quality - the 14-year-old me was a bit slapdash in the darkroom!

Regularly used in hillclimbs by the more 'serious' (or more well-heeled) competitors. See also (for example) Wimille at Prescott in 1939.

The only time I know of when double rears were used on a tarmac racing circuit was the 1938 Imperial Trophy at Crystal Palace, by George Abecassis on his Alta. A wet race and the Palace surface was notoriously slippery in those sort of conditions. Seems to have worked, as he won!

Reg Parnell also used them in Swedish ice racing in 1947.

Like Tim I was unable to make it this year, so no programme. Is the blue Zagato the Kerguen/Franc Le Mans car?.

I have no desire to become embroiled in  semantics, but I always had a big interest in these cars in period, especially after seeing the ex Moss car driving past me standing in our village in Somerset in 1968. 
Just a quick check shows the Kerguen car as “standard” Zagato in 61, running as no 1, with flat wings . It was white, or the picture looked like white . In 62 it was that delightful blue, but still regular wing edges, running no 12. In 63, as no 19, there may be a very slight relieving of the edge, as at the front, perhaps for slightly wider rims, and had gained a small duck tail spoiler on the  rearmost  curve edge on the boot lid.

I have always understood that owners opt for a particular point in time, owner or race spec for the restoration details, so this is probably done as the 1962 Le Mans car, and jolly nice too.

I cannot believe that an owner of such a car, the restorers or an historian advising them would get it wrong, unless I have got it all wrong…

I agree, but I wouldn't narrow it down to Formula One activities in terms of cars or drivers.

For example, we saw a 'Calsonic'/'Impul' liveried R32 Skyline GT-R running up the hill, but it was a lookalike/replica. Nissan owns The Real Thing back in Japan and Kazuyoshi Hoshino would be THE man to drive it. Nissan also have the corresponding Hasemi Motorsport 'Zexel' Skyline and Hasemi himself would be the man there. They often do that very thing at the NISMO Festival in Japan. It would suit the FoS down to the ground.

I'm friends with Masami Kuwashima (I own one of his old cars) and we've talked about Goodwood. I reckon he'd be up for it if he was invited.

Moto Kitano has attended with Honda more than once, but very few people seemed to know who he was...

Up on the Rally Stage, Nissan UK had a replica/lookalike (not much more than a paint and stickers job) of the 1971 East African Safari Rally winning 240Z on their stand, but Nissan have The Real Thing back in their collection back in Japan and a world class event such as the Festival Of Speed would surely warrant its presence. Nissan have spent plenty of money transporting other cars in their Heritage Collection for display/demo in the USA in recent years, so why not Goodwood? Imagine - just from Nissan alone - Prince R380 A-I, Nissan R380 A-II, R381, R382, Skyline/Bluebird/Silvia Super Silhouettes, various JGTC R33s and R34s, R390 GT1, NP35 and any number of rally cars. I think many people would love to see them.            
 

Goodwood Motorsport is open and often very receptive to such suggestions/recommendations as those above...  

Just bear in mind that budgets to bring cars and appropriate drivers to the event from around the world simply cannot accommodate within one event all one might like to see.

Jason Wright's 1961-style Ferrari Dino 246SP replica '0790R' made its public debut at FoS, having been built around original an engine and transaxle by Setford Racing.  It was only completed on the opening Thursday of the event, yet ran well 'straight out of the box'.

On the live stream we saw Nigel M squeezed into a Lotus 25. It appeared to be an early version 25 because it did not have the yellow stripe or the Len Terry aerodynamic windscreen. Does anyone have some pictures and/or information about this car please?

+1 there. We did get a Toyota 7 static one year but I can't recall seeing any of the Prince/Nissan sports cars in the UK before now.
