Batch 4 has the electric and fuel cell racing models in 'Class 14: Spark of Genius', so they'll be going up anytime that batch is called as well.

Loved the drama of O Fortuna from Orff's Carmina Burana to set the tone for Rainey doing his run. Bugger the M's

Romain Dumas is taking an all-electric Ford SuperVan with 2000hp up the hill and I cannot for the life of me work out why this thing exists.

The Ford Supervans have a long and illustrious history of being really, really silly and really, really entertaining.  An electric one is a worthy successor to those and it exists just because they could build one.   :drunk:

Like a giant shrike has caught them and saved their corpses to eat later!

I actually never thought of them as impaled before. It always looked to me like they had launched off of steep ramps and have cartoon “speed lines” trailing behind them

I am admittedly intrigued by the McMurtry Spéirling. I'm not a huge fan of the Batman's shrunken-LMP aesthetics or the ultra short wheelbase/narrow-track, but the underling electric technology and aero philosophy are honestly right up my street.

They seem to keep saying that they want to provide a blueprint for future forms of motorsport. So my very genuine question would be... where? What next for this program after they've gone and set some track records?

There's another event taking bizarre things up the hill this weekend, but I'm not sure if there's any actual coverage of it anywhere other than maybe this here (?) and maybe something on Facebook

Was there today... mega event. Some very impressive cars on display and the SkyF1 alley was brilliant with the various F1 cars on show.

I have said similar in the past, but once again... If any of you like the look of FOS don't just watch it on YouTube every year. Get yourself there!

If you can, aim to camp and go the full 4 days. It's a brilliant experience. Even still, it feels like 4 days comes to an end too quickly. Facilities are excellent and food stalls are varied and interesting. Up at the crack of dawn every day and get stuck in.

Sore face from smiling so much!!

I went for my first and (so far) only visit all the way back in 2003.

Perhaps I should end that gap at a neat 20 years…

Which is better as a spectator, Goodwood FoS or Revival?  Both are on my bucket list, though likely out of reach

As a spectator, probably the Revival. I've been to the FOS eight times and never really bothered watching the cars go up the hill - it's hardly comparable to a real hillclimb event. The FOS to me is all about meeting your heroes, looking at the wonderful collection of cars up very close in the paddock, wandering around the bookstalls etc.

Turned on the live stream this morning and immediately say Tom Kristensen in an Auto Union Type C. Ah, yes. That's the stuff.

A large portion of attention going to the 30th anniversary of his title?

Might have guessed! He was the only person of interest to me on this year's entry list that I had not previously seen there, hence I gave it a miss this year.

Well, maybe 30 mins from your house to the end of the traffic jam.....

Surprised he fit in his 639

Why? Because McLaren built a stupidly cramped car that he had trouble fitting into?  He never had a problem with any other car.

Our Nige has kept himself very fit with his golf and some serious cycling. Not everyone runs to fat when they leave motor racing.  Go to one of the Goodwood events and you will see many old racers still able to fit into their old mounts.  And drive them very quickly.

Because he is not as fit as he used to be   ;)

By the way, Batch 4 should be coming on now. Some pretty F1 cars. Including Mansell.

Seems as I have missed it. Batch 5 is on now.

I am not sure about that as Mansell was never one of the fittest drivers during his racing career - hence some of the post -race histrionics .  He may well be fitter now than he was then.  Either way, he is still more than able to fit into a Ferrari.

Mo Gugelmin couldn't properly fit into Newey's March cars either. People are different sizes! Some designers don't think this is their problem.

Perhaps I should have added a disclaimer. As it was more a tongue in cheek comment. Looking at that picture of the 639,he looks quite cramped.

There aren't many roomy F1 cars, not since the 1950s anyway.  And I don't suppose that, if Nigel is carrying any more poundage these days, he has put it on across his shoulders!   In my experience of getting old and fat, your shoulders are not where the problem lies!    ;)

Even back in the day, the 639 was a tight fight for Mansell (and even tighter for the lanky Berger)   ;)

So the Chilton got the McMurtry got done to 41.2 seconds in today's timed practice run, that's not far off Dumas' 0:39.90 record in the ID.R. Faster in fact than Heidfeld's 1999 benchmark of 41.60.

I think it could really challenge for the overall record come Sunday.

In fairness he was there in 2006. He managed to crash at Molecomb. YouTube video here.

Mahindra apparently only put the car together for the first time this week, gave it a quick shakedown run and then took it to FoS.

Not entirely sure what they were thinking.

It's managed two full runs up. The only one that made it on the live broadcast was, err, the half-a-run one.

If Mahindra can't put together a car that will run one mile up the Duke's driveway, then perhaps they ought to simply chuck it in altogether.
