[I'm sure there's a thread here somewhere about racing driver statues, monuments and memorials, though the search engine denies it. Perhaps Mr Moderator could move this into wherever it should have gone, if it's not appropriate here]

There's now a statue to Sir Stirling at Silverstone, which was unveiled outside the BRDC Clubhouse yesterday morning, on the Friday of the Grand Prix weekend.

It may be my phone camera playing tricks with its umpteen lenses and making his face appear chubbier than normal, or maybe I've 'misremembered' - see what you think. Glad it's there, anyway.

Always a bit queasy about statues; they rarely capture the likeness and can end up like caricatures. That doesn't look like Stirling's mouth. But then I'm sceptical about Boadicea on Westminster Bridge too.

As these things go, this one seems to be pretty good. It's always a crapshoot from Commission to Unveiling. How wrong can it go? In the US we had Lucille Ball, brilliant and beautiful comedienne, misremembered by an artist as the infamous "Scary Lucy".

As the creator of that effigy had to work from available photos rather than his own sketches/maquettes done from life one cannot expect too much. However, as Tony said, I'm glad it's there.
