7. Some pretty good racing through the field, and more on-track lead changes, but potential late problems aside the results at the front never seemed in that much doubt.

Best driver - Leclerc was great but the Ferrari was clearly the best race car so I'm giving it to Mick Schumacher who was excellent all weekend and saved his best for the race.

Worst driver - Gasly, I think he's regressed a lot over the last season or so. This was one of his worst races.

Best team - Ferrari, despite the engine failure. These things happen. They were sharper today and had a car to beat the Red Bull in their own backyard.

Worst team - Aston Martin, talking about regression.

Best overtake - Hamilton on Mick, just pulled off quite a difficult move with such confidence and ease.

Worst overtake - Perez and Russell probably.

Best moment - all the wheel to wheel stuff between Max and Charles was really tense.

Worst moment - Sainz's engine grenading and that slightly hairy moment with the car going backwards back towards the track in flames with the driver sitting on top of it.

8. Pretty good.

Better than I expected after yesterdays sprint race.

You can usually trust Ferrari to add excitement when there shouldn’t be any.

Best driver: Leclerc, although his car was a monster. Norris made the McLaren look half decent.

Worst driver: Gasly was lousy today.

Best team: Haas, amazingly.

Worst team: Aston Martin?

Best overtake: Norris on Magnussen and someone else in that mess of four cars into one corner- had to close my eyes.

Worst overtake: Perez on Russell. He should have learnt from Albon…

Best moment: Realising there was actually going to be a race today!

Worst moment: Ferrari grenade.

Best thing about the race: Plenty of overtakes.

Worst thing about the race: About a hundred track limits warnings.

And the race in a sentence: Proper race that. 8/10

Best driver: Leclerc, but that's boring so i'll give it to Mick!

Worst driver: Gasly did everything wrong, but despite that Tsunoda managed to finish behind him, so i'll give it to Tsunoda.

Best team: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas

Worst team: Alpha Tauri

Best overtake: Magnussen's awesome Double Overtake in Turn 1

Worst overtake: Gasly smashing Seb off the track

Best moment: That huge 6 car fight in the midfield mid race

Worst moment: Ferrari taking fire

Best thing about the race: Lot of action, cars following close & fighting hard

Worst thing about the race: Track Limits nosense.

And the race in a sentence: Lively

Best driver: Schumacher
Worst driver: No one stood out
Best team: (relatively) Haas
Worst team: Alpha Tauri
Best overtake: Hamilton on Schumacher
Worst overtake: Perez driving into the side of Russell.
Best moment: Leclerc’s tense finish
Worst moment: Sainz’s Ferrari giving up
Best thing about the race: Leclerc keeping the title race alive
Worst thing about the race: Stewarding. e.g. Russell left enough room but somehow was penalised because Perez didn’t use the track available to him on the outside.

And the race in a sentence: 6/10, just above average for a track which rarely provides classics.

Best driver: Leclerc
Worst driver:
Best team: Ferrari
Worst team: Wow, there's a lot of competition down there :D If pressed, I'd say Williams
Best overtake: Hamilton on Schumacher
Worst overtake: Pérez on Russell
Best moment: when it was over
Worst moment: realizing I'd wasted another Sunday afternoon on F1... - oh, and the bungling incompetence of the marshals when Sainz dropped out!
Best thing about the race: I think I did well in the shareholders competition
Worst thing about the race: DRS, DRS, DRS, and 71 laps of that

And the race in a sentence: strategy borefest, with lots of DRS changes of position, but hardly any overtaking

Best driver: Leclerc
Worst driver: Latifi
Best team: Ferrari
Worst team: Aston Martin
Best overtake: The battle between both the Haases, Norris, Zhou and Alpine where someone passed two cars in one go at turn 1.
Worst overtake: Either of the 2 that lead to accidents, although in both case it was the defending driver on the inside at fault.
Best moment: The aforementioned double pass and 3/4 cars abreast on the run up to turn 3.
Worst moment: The reports of spectator (I am not going to credit them with being fans) behaviour.
Best thing about the race: Great battles throughout the field.
Worst thing about the race: Spectator behaviour.

And the race in a sentence: Two brilliant races in a row.

I’m not quite sure how anyone can say that after a race with three wheel to wheel overtakes for the lead, but hey. I know DRS was at the bottom of most of it but it was thoroughly entertaining if narrowly short of being an all-time classic.

Best driver: Leclerc, flawless.
Worst driver: Gasly, hopeless all weekend
Best team: Haas - would have been Merc has it not been for the poor pit stops
Worst team: Aston
Best overtake: Mick on Lewis
Worst overtake: Russel on Perez
Best moment: Those 5 cars all going at it
Worst moment: Sainz DNF
Best thing about the race: Some hope restored that we might still get a championship battle, though reliability may well decide it
Worst thing about the race: Sainz DNF, was quite scary seeing that fire.

It was a classic F1 race. Lots of action. Fast cars. Slow cars. Tire strat. Final laps drama.

Best moment was the Alonso finger wag at 320 km/h.

I'm spoilt, I grew up watching F1 in the seventies!

I'm not easily entertained, especially not by DRS position changes. Overtaking is something else, entirely.

Best driver: Charles did well at the end, considering his problems, but I'd give it to 1 of Lewis, Lando, or Mick.
Worst driver: Gasly was terrible, but he did finish ahead of Tsunoda.
Best team: Mercedes and Haas both had good races.
Worst team: Alpha Tauri/Aston Martin (tie)
Best overtake: Charles on Max just because it was for the lead.
Worst overtake: Perez on Russell (really thought it was a racing incident) not a good move so early in the race, and Checo paid the price.

Best moment: Alonso giving Yuki the finger .... it's about time someone did.
Worst moment: Sainz blow-up.
Best thing about the race: The suspense due to Leclerc's throttle issues.
Worst thing about the race: Track limit nonsense.

And the race in a sentence: Entertaining.

Best driver: I'm going to say Alonso. From 20th place, he would have finished 6th if not for a pitstop error. Admittedly I'm biased though.
Worst driver: Gasly had a stinker tbh.
Best team: HAAS
Worst team: Alpha Tauri
Best overtake: Probs Schumacher's/Hamilton's overtakes.
Worst overtake: Russell punting Perez off
Best moment: that five car brawl into turn 3
Worst moment: Seb getting punted off. Man cannot seem to catch a break wheel to wheel.
Best thing about the race: Alpine cementing itself as the 4th best car (again, biased).
Worst thing about the race: The silly crashes in turn 4. Both examples of pretty poor wheel to wheel racing.

And the race in a sentence: Solid 8. Enjoyable race with plenty going on throughout.

Best team:  An improving Haas

Best thing about the race; FIA finally giving drivers warnings about track limits

Worst thing about the race: Race drivers too  thick in the head to suitably heed warnings.

Worst team: Tie between Aston and AT. Invisible.
Best overtake: Leclerc on Max 1
Worst overtake: Gasly on Seb
Best moment: 5 cars so close you could put a blanket over them
Worst moment: Seb punted by Gasly
Best thing about the race: Charles finally winning, despite the issues
Worst thing about the race: Sainz throwing rods

And the race in a sentence: Tense, especially as a Tifosi

Best moment: Ferrari finally winning again without messing up their strategy
Worst moment: fans bad behaviour
Best thing about the race: a lot of action, for 2 races in a row now
Worst thing about the race: fans bad behaviour

I'd like to add a rating for the aerodynamics rule changes for this season - I'm giving them a "10".  The number of times we saw 3, 4, or 5 cars battling in close formation, and not just for a second or two but for multiple corners makes it clear that Ross got it right.

Best driver: LeClerc was superb - his overtakes on Max were excellent. Honorable mentions for Hamilton and Schumacher.
Worst driver: Gasly or Tsunoda, both had a shocker.
Best team: Haas.
Worst team: On a day where they did a great job sticking to their guns on strategy, Ferrari somehow managed to shoot themselves in the foot again. Really seem to not want to challenge for the championship.
Best overtake: Hamilton on Mick or LeClerc's first move (from way back) on Verstappen.
Worst overtake: Gasly and Vettel.
Best moment: Alonso telling off Tsunoda had me in bits.
Worst moment: Sainz engine robbing us of that battle - think it would have been decent, and that Max would have had a chance of keeping him behind.
Best thing about the race: the crowd.
Worst thing about the race: a tiny minority in the crowd.

And the race in a sentence: lots of fun racing through the field, and definitely not an action replay of the sprint - really enjoyable weekend.

Best driver: Shared between Leclerc and Schumacher. Very good all-round performances.
Worst driver: Gasly. Gone off the boil of late.
Best team: Haas.
Worst team: Aston Martin.
Best overtake: Nothing stood out in particular, but at stretch I'd say Leclerc's opportunistic lunge into turn 4 or Norris' climb 2-3 places in that five car scrap.
Worst overtake: Nothing of note.
Best moment: The cheers when Verstappen got pole position. Not for the driver per se, but the atmosphere was loud and exciting.
Worst moment: Petty forum squabbles.
Best thing about the race: Styria is beautiful.
Worst thing about the race: Nothing of note.

And the race in a sentence: Enjoyable day out in the Austrian hills.

So Perez didn’t leave Russell enough room? How much room did he need, he clearly overshot the corner.

They both had room, but Perez chose not to use it.

He was in front and committed to a corner and left Russell enough room to make the corner without crashing into him.He couldn't even see Russell at that moment, so he was trusting on Russell to make the corner as the Ferrari's did in front of him. This "room on the outside" argument really is a red herring, of course there's always room on the outside when they're around the apex of a corner, that's how you make a corner.

I do find it funny that the British Grand Prix was hailed as the best thing since sliced bread, whilst this one only gets a score of 8. This Grand Prix had fights all over and during the entirety of the race, opposed to the British one. Which has had some awesome racing, but not for an extended period of time like Austria.

Edit: I think I will have to post this in the unpopular opinion thread.

Best driver: It's hard to pick anyone bar Leclerc really
Worst driver: Gasly? I think
Best team: Statistically, still Mercedes? But i'm very impressed with what Haas are doing.
Worst team: McLaren need to do better but Aston Martin have been appalling the last few rounds.
Best overtake: Leclerc's insane divebomb at turn 4
Worst overtake: Sainz off-track pass on Russell out of T1; not sure why it rubs me the wrong way but shades of Spa 2009 I guess
Best moment: Just enjoyed all of it really - the 5 car fight on/around lap 20 was awesome.
Worst moment: Sainz engine failure and the fire-putting-out or lack thereof
Best thing about the race: Nice to see Ferrari back on top!
Worst thing about the race: The trouble with the fans, to be honest.

Best driver: Leclerc
Worst driver: Gasly. I don't see anyone else in the same league.
Best team: Haas - maximised their potential all weekend
Worst team: Aston Martin. What has happened?
Best overtake: Hamilton on Schumacher. Superb.
Worst overtake: Nothing stood out
Best moment: Ferrari getting strategy right for a change
Worst moment: Sainz's engine grenading
Best thing about the race: It was a race, albeit DRS assisted.
Worst thing about the race: Certain sections of the crowd. This needs to be nipped in the bud.

And the race in a sentence: Lively, but still helped by DRS

The rule changes have helped a lot though....that 6 car battle we briefly had would never have happened in 2021 or really in any season in the last 20 or even 30 years. It was abundantly clear that cars could follow quite close in corners.

You operate on a different principal than I do.  I think the "in front" argument is the red herring, and that it is the responsibility of the driver making the pass to do it safely. Clearly Checo was not "in front" enough to chop down and take the apex, as he attempted. You are implying Russell drove into him on purpose, I don't think that is the case.

Can you keep the discussion of the Perez-Russell crash in the race thread please. I know we didn’t create a separate thread for it but I guess we didn’t expect such a clear cut incident to generate so much talk. If you are going to talk about it, keep it in one place please.
