Found in a file yesterday - but what is it? Silverstone, huge underfloor ground-effect tunnels, easy rear wheel changing... Beyond thinking that's a March-like nose section I have no idea but am confident that someone here will.

March 82G
... and that from me, a sports car ignorant!

But infinitely more knowledgeable than me Michael. And thank you (if correct, of course).

In those pre-photoshop days I wondered if it might have been the product of someone with good skills with an airbrush, round about April 1st. These days, thanks to photoshop, Louis Galanos is rather good at that sort of thing ...

George Lucas achieved much the same thing with a smear of vaseline on the camera lens...

No, no, that photo's genuine. Coming in to land on the old Silverstone airstrip that connects Copse to Stowe. Paddock space was limited that year and competitors were asked to, if at all possible, arrive by air.

I think that must have been the first shakedown version that was in Doug's picture. The 82G as raced looked rather more conventional (no wheel spats and smaller tunnels).

1981 BMW M1C ain't it? Not the 82G, though that derived from it

The top picture also appeared in the BMW M1/C GTP IMSA press kit, taken at a shake-down run. By the time the car appeared at the Riverside 6 Hour race in April, the rear wheels were open for all to see.

Definitely the BMW M1C. 3.5 litre engine, the similar but bulkier, 82G had a variety of motors. Max Sardou was involved with both I recall
