As some of you may have noticed, the 2022 season is underway. This means that we can draw a line under the 2022 Silly Season Trophy. As it stands, we can congratulate rodlamas with his second victory in this game – the first repeat winner in its history!

2003: Brian O Flaherty
2004: Flying Panda
2005: lukywill, Viceroy, Makarias
2017: ANF
2018: Marklar
2019: TurnOffTheLights
2020: rodlamas
2021: M2000-5
2022: rodlamas

rodlamas was the third player to finalize his prediction. His key choices were predicting Pérez's move to Red Bull (not yet confirmed at that time), and picking Hülkenberg as an AlphaTauri driver. As rodlamas was the only player to pick Hülkenberg, he scored 3*2 = 6 points when Aston Martin drafted him as Vettel's replacement. This, ultimately, clinched rodlamas's win. I feel sorry for DutchQuicksilver, who has finished in the top four of this competition for five years in a row now, and has lost to rodlamas for the second time in three years. Hopefully, the 2023 trophy will finally be his.

The other major change not reflected in the interim results was Haas dropping Mazepin in favor of Magnussen. This ultimately had a minor effect on the standings, as the only player not picking Mazepin (Makarias) moved up from 9th to 5th, while the only player picking Magnussen (KWSN - DSM) moved up from 10th to 7th.

With 14 exact picks out of 21, rodlamas was also the most accurate picker of this competition. If it wasn't for Vettel's illness, there would be four players tied at 13.

Here are the full results:

Place Name Points Exact Subm
  1 rodlamas 95.78 14 3
  2 DutchQuicksilver 95.00 13 1
      AVERAGE PICK 92.22 13
  3 SpaceHorseParty 90.11 13 6
  4 f1paul 89.22 13 5
  5 Makarias 88.22 12 7
  6 scheivlak 87.56 11 8
  7 KWSN - DSM 87.00 11 4
  8 Marklar 86.67 12 10
  9 sladealonso 83.22 12 2
 10 M2000-5 83.11 11 9

As usual, the average pick does quite well. This time, it's on the podium, beating 8 out of 10 players.

Some statistics on the 2022 drivers:

Name Team Total In team Most popular team
Alex Albon Williams 6 1 AlphaTauri (5)
Fernando Alonso Alpine 10 10 Alpine (10)
Valtteri Bottas Alfa Romeo 9 0 Mercedes (5)

Mick Schumacher Haas 10 7 Haas (7)
Lance Stroll Aston Martin 10 10 Aston Martin (10)
Yuki Tsunoda AlphaTauri 10 8 AlphaTauri (8)
Max Verstappen Red Bull 10 10 Red Bull (10)
Sebastian Vettel Aston Martin 9 9 Aston Martin (10)
Zhou Guanyu Alfa Romeo 0 0 n/a

The most popular drivers not on the 2022 grid are Nikita Mazepin and Robert Shwarztman, both picked by 9 out of 10 players. Mazepin was expected to stay at Haas (and was supposed to), while Shwartzman was widely expected to join either Alfa Romeo or Haas. Makarias was the only player to predict Mazepin's absence, and M2000-5 was the only one to predict the lack of Shwartzman on the grid.

Once again, congratulations to rodlamas!

Too bad, would I have won though if Vettel didn’t get covid and got replaced by Hulkenberg?

Yes, or if Vettel was replaced by someone else. rodlamas got 6 points for Hülkenberg.

So it's the driver who sits in the car in the 1st race of the season and not the one that has a permanent contract? I was never aware of that rule. :p

Both are counted, so everyone who picked Vettel still got points for him.
