It's time for the annual Pau GP weekend – and, on Sunday, the 79th Grand Prix of Pau.

Racing at Pau is always fun to watch, so I've pasted the weekend schedule from https://www.grandpri...d-prix/program/ and added links to the Youtube streams I could find. Some of the streams I've posted may be geoblocked and some races may not be streamed on Youtube at all. I guess it all depends on broadcasting rights as usual. Feel free to share any legal and official live streams that do show up on Youtube or elsewhere.

All times are local (CEST). Expect some delays for barrier repairs etc...

Thanks! I've just been reading about the inaugural Grand Prix at the Pau street circuit in which Marcel Lehoux and Guy Moll battled it out in a February snowstorm.

The ETCR cars looked pretty rapid in the qualifying sessions, I do just remain entirely unconvinced by the tournament format.

The ETCR looks pretty awesome out there!

Less on rails than the WTCR ones in the twisty bits, so more fun to watch overall.

And pretty fast looking.

Still trying to understand the race format tho

Does ETCR even have races? Or is it just a knockout series of time trials?

What soul would you say it lacks? Because I also think *something* is missing

As far as I’m aware it’s basically Rallycross but on a circuit ?

*This* is what efficent marshalling looks like (Lubin and Pinot's incident, cars cleared under a local yellow only, in less than five minutes).

Very impressive, Monaco like.

If it was F1 would have been a red flag + a 30 minutes wait than a 2 laps sprint race.

They have been doing on-and-off for > 90 years so I guess they might have some ingrained knowledge.

Perhaps, but they've been out of practice since 2019...

And they have stationary cranes at several corners, just like they do in Monaco. So they don't have to drive a big crane onto the track and then slowly return with the stricken car. I wish F1 could have stationary cranes at more venues, but I guess they think they are ugly to look at.

Maybe if the F1 drivers obeyed the yellow flags properly then F1 might be able to do the same - but since Charlie allowed the 'Kimi finger' that has not been the case.

They still had to bring out a mobile crane and SC for the other main crash.

I am not sure that big cranes are a viable solution at most of the 'real' tracks as opposed to street circuits..

I wonder how many cranes would be needed to cover Copse corner at Silverstone - there is about 2-300 meters of barrier on the outside of the corner that seem to be very attractive to race cars.

There are also several practicalities that need to be considered.

  • There must be room for the crane and space to put removed cars behind the barrier.
  •
  • There must be suitable access for the crane.
  •
  • The area must be a non spectator area for safety reasons.
  •
  • Big cranes are only suitable for removing cars that are close enough to the barrier/crane location for the boom to reach.

That was one disadvantage I failed to add to the list - I would be somewhat hacked off if I had paid $1000 for my ticket to have the view blocked by a forest of crane jibs.

Watched  three of yesterdays races - real close racing without needing to resort to DRS aids.

Camera work and direction was also excellent - made F1 coverage look more like home video productions.

Enjoyed the WTCR race 1.

Some overtakes, some a bit forced, poor Berthon paid the price.

Looking forward for the Grand Prix now

Did last night's "Adour Ocean Cup" run in darkness?

The French Carrera Cup used to run in the dark and it looked great, as street night racing without unnecessarily bright night-for-day floodlights is very rare (the only other events that immediately come to mind are Trois-Rivieres, and Nashville last year)... more of that please...

Missed WTCR race 1. Race 2 was ok, I thought Urrutia was going to attack Azcona, but after one lap or so the Hyundai driver simply took off. Gutted for Norbi.

ETCR would actually be great with a proper field of cars.

Big shunt for Filippi there!

Wow, you guys outdid yourselves for this year !

Was able to barely catch the 2nd WTCR race as well like Ezequiel but I needed to have a slow and sleepy Sunday.

Cheers to y'all for the great thread, hope you enjoyed.

Stoked that WTCR and ETCR is go!

How about this theory though: Monaco has very high stationary cranes but no helicopter shots! All other F1 circuits* (I think!) have helicopter shots but no very high stationary cranes! Coincidence?

* Suzuka used to have a very high stationary crane at the hairpin, but I don't think it's there anymore? Coincidence?!
