Hello,

I try to find out the early history of ELVA MKVIIs with the BMW engine. 70/046 was the second MKVIIs with the BMW engine. Completed in the factory 5-10-1964, equiped with a 1991cc BMW engine, Hewland MKV gearbox, Girling AR Brakes and airfreighted to Carl Haas, the US dealer at that time. The colour was yellow. Most likely it was raced in the Elkhardt Lake Road America 500 in mid September. But who drove it? Does anybody have more information? What I also know, in the 90ties, Alan Miles did own it.

Can anyone help to shed some light into the early racing history of 70/046?

Any help is apreciated.

regards

Roland

I have no idea if this is actually 046, but the Elva Mk VIIS-BMW at Elkhart lake in '64 was driven by Doug Revson and Lake Underwood, Retired, race number (64). Revson appeared with a similar car on 23 Aug. at Watkins Glen. Further races  Thompson, Riverside and Laguna Seca.

Entrant is often Rev-M Racing. Again, I don't know if this is the car you are looking for, but it might be.

Hello Henk,

thank you very much for your reply. Do you know if Doug Revson car was yellow? As far as I know, it was the only yellow BMW engined MKVIIs. The others have been

Porsche, Climax or Ford powered cars.

Henk, here I found the results from the Elkhart race in September 64:

(I needed to edit this, because I looked at the wrong year,)

https://www.classics...srrc1964.html#9

Factory records show there have been made 7 ELVA/BMW until end of August

The colours have been:

70/043 red,

70/046 yellow

70/049 white

70/051 green

70/052 red

70/053 silver

70/055 blue

70/056 light blue

The first entry I found in 1964 have been in

Greenwood Sport and GT Car race 19.7.1964

Bill Allen Elva - BMW

next race I found two ELVA/BMW  was:

Road Amarica 500 at Elkhart Lake, Sep. 13. '64

David Dunbar/Charles Cantwell Jr. Elva - BMW 110 (this car could have been green, so maybe 70/051

Doug Revson / USA Elva Mk7 BMW 110 DNF

regards

Roland

The website you mentioned is quite outdated.

Please visit https://www.racingsp...1964-09-13.html

This is a much updated version from the same source. (There is a reason for  that).

This one also shows pictures and gives colors where available

Unfortunately the Doug Revson car turns out to be Dark Blue.

So I opened a list of all Elva Mk VII cars on that website:

https://www.racingsp...lva/Mk VII.html and go to page 2

And searched for a Yellow Mk VIIS-BMW.

First and only one I caught is:

Road America, September '65 (Fits in better with a completion date of October '64)

It is Mak Kronn/James Scott, S.K.E. Ltd, Start numner (77), Retired.
