Julian Simon did it in 2009 in the 125cc, but did go on to win the title that year - ahead of Bradley Smith, but I can't think of anyone else at the top level who has done it though.

I suspect that Stavros Parrish did his "faux pas" on purpose.
I would also like to hear more about Daytona 1981 incident, whether Wimmer found out and if so what did he say.

I believe the Parrish incident was true and concerning Martin Wimmer, I don't remember him coming back for more 'advice'.
Believe the old adage, measure twice, cut once and make your own decisions.
