Not really very technical and the torsional rigidity is probably close to zero but I though this rework of the very rare Corvair drop side truck is just a great example of hot rodding.

Enjoy and hopefully smile

I am a bit surprised there aren't more mid-engine hot rods using the C5 and up transaxle. It's a bit long but that can be remedied .

I like the way they haven't messed with the paintwork. I understand why you want your project car to be bright and shiny and better than new, but something of the Pom in me thinks that it is OK for old cars to look worn. The worst example I know of is Lindsay Fox's collection of lovely cars. He seems to use the same leather and craftsman to reupholster each one.

apparently i can't post a link!

try that, ok that worked, presumably somebody is paranoid about red dogs!

Anyway, well worth a visit, have an early lunch, you want the full 4 hours. The rather dreary selection of highlighted cars is not representative, it is far more interesting than modern sports cars and porkers. google image search will find some good ones.

Yeah the forum software sometimes refuses to post links. It seems completely random to me. I can usually edit them in later but what a ridiculous waste of time.

The old paint/patina trend is driven in part by the high cost of paint and prep materials these days.

When the materials bill alone is $5000 USD, suddenly the old finish starts to look pretty good.

You can powerwash the existing finish and then shoot two coats of satin clear urethane over it to stablize it, and it will hold up for many years.

$5000??  Yes paint is getting way too expensive but $500 [And that AUD] would be closer.

Painting over shitty paint and rust is simply a bad look and it does not stick very well. The very reason for all that prep to paint a car.
