Latifi GONE

Confirmed out of Williams at the end of 2022.

I can almost hear the collective sigh of relief.

At this point I'm pretty much done trying to predict what will happen. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Hakkinen at Alpine and Coulthard at Williams at this point. I'll just stand back and watch.

I'm very influenced by the last thing I saw so I vote De Vries as a replacement.

Ah, so Latifi hasn't gone, but will be going, much as expected. I'd stick de Vries in the seat, on the basis that amongst a number of candidates, he's shown he's very likely to hack it.

Williams will need to replace the money that Latifi brought in to the team so I expect it will be Logan Sargeant replacing him, he has an uncle who is a billionaire so he's not short of money.

What's Logan Sargeant like? I don't follow F2 particularly closely and he hasn't really grabbed my attention.

Williams doesnt necessarily need the money thanks to Dorilton. It would be a welcome addition none the less.

I find it telling that Dorilton saw out the original contract of Latifi instead of booting him out last year. But he did show less than was expected and one can not keep on making excuses for not performing. Capito's latest statements that Latifi was influenced by the death threats via Social Media which in effect also influenced his performance, is a bit far fetched if I am honest.

Inconsistency is something that can be fixed. Lacking speed cant be fixed. So I'd opt for Sargeant.

Not really a surprise.

However, there were some moments in 2020 and 2021 when he didn't seem that bad. But then he went backwards.

One credit I give to him: if you followed his feeder career his development since his final F2 season (where he suddenly was a frontrunner) is insane, you dont score points on multiple occasions in the worst car (and sometimes a bit better) and occasionally outrace a good driver just like that, sadly he showed this too rarely and since the new cars he is entirely out of his depth.

Mick at Williams seems to fit, if he’s really on his way out of Haas.

As for Latifi. He’s had a decent run as far as classic pay drivers go. But his time is up and time to make space for new talent.

Possibly how he got his F1 shot... but was a flash in the pan

Latifi showed some promise last year and wasn't totally useless...but he's achieved nothing this year and I am not surprised he's going to be dropped.

Sergeant, de Vries, Mick....they'd probably all be better.

Williams are likely to want money, so I expect it'll be Logan. But I have to admit, if I were running the team I'd try to get de Vries in the car. Albon is doing a solid job.

I think they will wait and see if Sargeant makes it to the superlicence. If yes, he would be the ideal solution - talented driver, potentially coming with backing if F1 gains momentum in the US. 

In case he does not make it (or is not deemed ready yet) De Vries would be the most logical alternative, but he seems to be in demand from other teams too.

I really thought De Vries would be a cert until he started being linked with everyone.

I hope it's de Vries in a Mercedes deal to see if he's good enough to replace Hamilton once he retires.

Schumacher would be okay if he won't be staying at Haas.

Sargeant... I'm not sure he's good enough for F1.

Any of the three mentioned above would be a step up.  De Vries couldn't have done any better standing in for Albon so it would be interesting to see how he would go with a full season.  I wouldn't mind Sargeant getting a chance either.

Latifi had some decent performances in these last two years.

Occasionally, but still.

Think he can find good success & probably much more fun & reward in other categories.

There is a world outside of F1.

Sad day. He was there to prove his worth, he never complained and tried his best. But he failed. Never forget.

And this is something he can be proud of.  He has comported himself like a gentleman throughout his career.  Nothing to be sneered at, whatsoever.

I voted someone else because I don't think Williams will make a choice from those listed.  But if I were them, I would probably give Schumacher the ride.  He does crash the car a bit, but he's also come on pace-wise and honestly I think he's probably the better driver currently at Haas.  Plus, he definitely will be able to bring the sponsor support that Williams could do with.  I think De Vries is likely at Alpha Tauri, and Logan is maybe not yet quite ready for F1.  Albon has done quite well this year proving doubters wrong in that Williams, and a teammate with similar motivations could probably do well paired with him.
