Would it be possible for Atlas to accompany some of the interviews or some other news footage with video clips for downloading? Assuming that there is no hefty FIA charge for taking video equipment to GP's this would be relatively inexpensive (I think) and a great download for Atlas members.
How about it?

Great idea, but they should be MPEG4 format, otherwise they would be too big for an ordinary connection to download.

Talking about videos... Anybody has any idea what happened
to the excellent Russia F1 MPEG site that serves up full race footage???

video cameras of any sort are expressly forbidden in the paddock/media center without appropriate TV credentials.

If we get our hands on video clips, will be post them. But it will always be within the realm of what we may do legally, as I am sure you can understand :)

Does Bernie own the rights for the old F1 races? I mean, I would love to see races from the 80s. At 320x240 MPEG4 they could be sized to less than 500 MB.

In my part of the world (SE Asia) we don't have those TV coverage
as seen on those Russian MPEGs.. It is very interesting to view
the race from so many camera angles especially those onboard
shots, listening to gear changes and throttle controls.

My apologies if I offended you. :)

Anyway lets get this thread back on topic shall we? So Mosquito, what do you think of the MPEG situation?

I think Bira answered the question pretty much. Video material of F1 is the toughest and most expensive to get your hands on. I don't think it's anywhere near within the financial budget of Atlas, now and in the future.

Mine - as I started the thread!;)
Bira has made the position clear as far as current coverage is concerned - I don't know what the position is concerning the older GP's. Does anyone know what the copywrite laws are concerning web sites and in effect rebroadcasting clips of the races?
What would be good is if an interview took place with a driver away from the circuit and a video was made of it.

Are you proposing that Atlas F1 itself would carry out these interviews, and hence avoid any other parties?

Yes.:smoking:

How have I presumed ignorance? You asked a question about how the video would be carried out and I replied yes. How this reflects on me is a mystery.

Captain - why are you so aggressive to people who respond to your posts? It's not very helpful.

I believe that the BBC do not own the rights to the F1 footage from the pre-1997 coverage or any of the 80's stuff. I believe it is owned by FOCA and they have the rights to re-package the footage in their highlights videos (produced by Duke Video.)

I think that the Beeb DO have the rights to the commentary part of the F1 races that were televised on BBC 2, but the pictures belong to FOCA. I believe that this is why the Duke Video highlights tapes have different commentary on them than originally would have been seen in the UK. At least I think this is the case - I will investigate further with BBC Sport and report back. They should know.

There are a few F1 video sites about but I think they are unlicenced and are breaking the law in making video clips available for download.

In addition there is always Emlyn the Tapemaster, who has a huge back catalogue of races with original Murray Walker commentary - and who will copy you a tape (including practice/qualifying sessions where available) for a mere 8 quid.

I've got his more recent catalogue on WORD format if anyone is interested.......

Russian MPEG archive is back online at a different address, they dont have full races up yet, but i am hoping it is a matter of time before this happens. It looks like they are in the process of uploading the back catalogue.

As someone mentioned, i do not think they have a licence and so what they are doing is illegal. I do not want to get them in trouble and have them disappear again. Should I post the new address on here?
