If we get our hands on video clips, will be post them. But it will always be within the realm of what we may do legally, as I am sure you can understand

In my part of the world (SE Asia) we don't have those TV coverage
as seen on those Russian MPEGs.. It is very interesting to view
the race from so many camera angles especially those onboard
shots, listening to gear changes and throttle controls.

It was the "but have been using the site since 1995 on a religious basis" which had me in stitches, I thought you must have intended regular basis.;)Originally posted by Captain Cook
It must admit it took me some time to figure out what you meant.
My apologies if I offended you.
I think Bira answered the question pretty much. Video material of F1 is the toughest and most expensive to get your hands on. I don't think it's anywhere near within the financial budget of Atlas, now and in the future.Anyway lets get this thread back on topic shall we? So Mosquito, what do you think of the MPEG situation?

Bira has made the position clear as far as current coverage is concerned - I don't know what the position is concerning the older GP's. Does anyone know what the copywrite laws are concerning web sites and in effect rebroadcasting clips of the races?
What would be good is if an interview took place with a driver away from the circuit and a video was made of it.

I believe that the BBC do not own the rights to the F1 footage from the pre-1997 coverage or any of the 80's stuff. I believe it is owned by FOCA and they have the rights to re-package the footage in their highlights videos (produced by Duke Video.)
I think that the Beeb DO have the rights to the commentary part of the F1 races that were televised on BBC 2, but the pictures belong to FOCA. I believe that this is why the Duke Video highlights tapes have different commentary on them than originally would have been seen in the UK. At least I think this is the case - I will investigate further with BBC Sport and report back. They should know.
There are a few F1 video sites about but I think they are unlicenced and are breaking the law in making video clips available for download.
In addition there is always Emlyn the Tapemaster, who has a huge back catalogue of races with original Murray Walker commentary - and who will copy you a tape (including practice/qualifying sessions where available) for a mere 8 quid.
I've got his more recent catalogue on WORD format if anyone is interested.......

As someone mentioned, i do not think they have a licence and so what they are doing is illegal. I do not want to get them in trouble and have them disappear again. Should I post the new address on here?
