one second on DC and 2 on HHF. Of course it's testing!!!! meaningless. All it says it's that Button is physically fit and his incident with his back last week is solved.

I think it's just to generate a bit of publicity for the lad, I reckon that Coulthard could have gone a good 2 seconds faster than that.

Still, a 1:26.3 is not a bad time, only 1 sec. off the '99 pole...

Lets just wait and see how the guy goes in a race situation. Quote from Salo today:

Mika Salo has said that Jenson Button could cause danger to other drivers when he makes his Formula 1 debut on March 12th. "I hope he can handle it because if he can't he will hurt himself or somebody else," said Salo. The Finn has been testing at Fiorano for Sauber and preparing for the season opener in Australia. "Testing F1 and racing F1 are two different things," added Salo. "When you are testing you are alone, when you are racing you have 21 other cars around you."

Wow.

Mika really knows his stuff. Twenty one other drivers out there, eh. He must have spent hours working that one out.

Why don't they just give the kid a break.

I think they're waiting to see just how much Jenson does break before giving him any...

Whatever, Silverstone is a track Button knows well unlike all the other GP tracks which he has next no no experience of, the fact that he got inside Ralf Schumachers 1999 Qualifying time in a car with an arguebly worse engine and will relatively few testing miles under his belt shows the man has talent in bundles.

Bruno got nowhere near Ralfy in the Jerez test all week, whenever Button has been driving the same car as RS he has been respectably close or faster.

Salo should remember the trouble he caused driving his Ferrari into the back off Herbert denying Johnny his race from a great grid position before he moans about other drivers ability.
He has picked the wrong driver to pick on, Sauber and Williams should be pretty close on performance this year, Sauber's relative Horsepower advantage against Williams chassis advantage should just about balance each other out, Salo will be qualifying in similar grid positions to Button - I'll be the first to cheer when Button stuffs the over rated big mouth big time.

It seems to me Button has been consistently quick for the test "season." As much as I condemn William's malevolent treatment of drivers, I'd love to see Button post some good results this year.

Any way you look at it, the guy has been impressive. He's twenty years old and is being thrown into the deep end by one of the big sharks in the tank -- Frank.

I think that maybe Button will turn out to be a revalation, one of the best drivers on the grid, and future champion, or else he will be a dismal failure...I lean towards the latter, but with so many rookies this year, Heidfeld, Button, Mazzacan, Zonta('99 BAR could barely be called a seasons experience), one of these guys is going to shine...

Also don't overlook Gene, he has been outstanding - the best rookie by miles since JV, he's a real future talent, a champion in the making if he gets the right breaks.

it is a little unfair to say one is scared because Jason never started an F1 race. Why, has any of the other drivers had that experience before becoming an F1 driver???? there is a first time for everyone, it was the same for Schumi or Hak, Schumi was 21, Jason is 20, what's the big difference????

I'd say the big difference is that his name is Jenson, rather than Jason. I think this could make all the difference.

Well whatever happens, Silverstone had quite a lot of rain showers on wednesday. So the conditions were not 100% good. One minute people are saying he won`t be able to handle the extra power, and Salo may be right. They have more cars in an F3 race. If he can handle the car, and the new tracks why should he be any more of a danger than some others we`ve seen in recent years. After all M Schumacher has taken off more than his fair share in er accidents apart from anyone else.

Here's an atheist praying that Jenson will be average like Irvine or Herbert. I honestly can't live through more ENGLISH hype on a driver. If Button did turn out to be the next Senna I would never be able to return to the land of my birth.

Nomad, what's wrong with a Brit cheering for a successful Brit driver? The same as Brazilians going mad for Senna or Germans for Schumi - it happens everywhere where Motorsport is popular.
Now that Rubens is driving a Ferrari expect Brazil to go mad and fly the flag, would that stop a Brazilan going back to Brazil?

Blimey were even getting English Anglophobes these days.
