Mr Villeneuve and Miss Minogue happened to just walk past me whilst I was at Crown tonight.

I couldn't believe how damn short they both are!

regards,
doohanOK.

They're all midgets. Last time I walked down a pit lane (about 6 or 7 years ago now), I couldn't believe how small modern drivers are. Even guys I thought were quite lanky like Berger and Senna were short-arses and I nearly trod on Mansell, he was so short (I know, I know, why didn't I squish him - you don't think in the heat of the moment). Now back in the 70s, guys like Peterson and Hunt seemed to be at least average height - I don't think I've
grown since then - I'm still 1.91m.

Everyone looks taller on TV of course. Anyway, if you're over 1.7m and 50kg, forget it. So F1 is sizeist as well as sexist!

If I'm not mistaken, I beleive Wurz is the tallest on the grid at about or close to 6 foot! I'm 6'4", guess THAT'S the reason I never became an F1 driver!! ;)

yes Wurz's 6 foot? is pretty anomalously big isn't it. When you see just Wurz and fissi in a picture together you wonder whether they're the same animal (do the same job).

I am 6 foot 1 inch. So that makes me taller than any driver in F1 now. :)

Hi RedBarron,

Long time no see! Welcome back anyway.

You're like swallow appearing only on spring time. ;)

What's your take for the Y2K season?

Christian Danner is 6' 4" tall. I recall serveral years back the Guy Ligre's French F1 team wanted him as a driver...

Unfortuanatly they ultimatly proved unsuccesfull in adapting their car to his stature and were therefore never signed him.

I think Jacques is something under 5' 5" ? maybe slightly shorter than Johnney Herbert.

Some fifteen years ago I was fortunate to see the great J.M. Fangio live , in a ceremony held by a Brazilian car magazine in which he was the special guest .
I got quite surprised then to realize what a small man he was .

Wurz is 6 feet 2 inches and something like 86kg. Schumacher is around 77kg and 5 feet 9 or 10 inches. Luca Badoer was just 57kg.

You are kidding me! I weigh more than Luca Badoer? But I'm only 16! Ok now I feel bad!

OK, so my 6 feet 2 wouldn't be a problem, but I guess 96kg would. Damn! There's a career opportunity lost!

I am sure that I read somewhere that HHF was only 48kg last year. Can this possibly be true??

Jim Clark was tiny, too, but pulled the birds okay. Graham Hill was tall, but all those Europeans tend to be on the small side.
I saw Fangio just that once, didn't matter that he was old, small, bald, grey or anything, he had car control...
The W196 was braking from 160mph and the tyres were chirping, but not locking.. he was 72 years old! What a sight...

Yeah, I was privileged to see Fangio (THE Man - forget your ten-cent Sennas and Schumachers) just once, at Donington, demonstrating the Merc. He must have been in his seventies - no helmet, big grin and he was flying - pinsharp accuracy through the corners, drifting the car, braking to just before the wheels locked - a total star.

They had to put people out to block the track to get him to come again, he was enjoying it so much. And so were we. This was a true genius, and I have no doubt he was the best driver of all time.

Hey, i'm the perfect size for a f1 driver. 5'4" and well i weigh less than Badoer (if you think i'm putting my weight on here, you have another think coming!)...

Now all i have to do is learn to drive...

Joei ;)

BRG,
Perhaps the reason you didn't "squish" Mansell is the he is a 7th Dan Black belt.
I can't imagine Shuey storming down the pits to pick a fight with NM.
Of course they are short-arses. They have to be light. You don't see Sumo Wrestlers racing horses do you?
