Monti wasn't disqualified, he just didn't score points because he ran with an English licence that year - remember? He started out as Damon Hill's teammate in British F3, then quit to be substituted by Donnelly and returned to Italy to win on his first appearance back home.

Later that year, at the penultimate round, two or three teams were found cheating with the fuel. Their drivers' points were rescinded, but they were not disqualified, i.e. other drivers did not profit from their points loss other than gaining ranks in the final standings - not dissimilar with the Tyrrell case three years before.

Give me a little time and I will come back with more detailed info.

Was there not an issue for many F3 engines in that period due to the use of unleaded fuels and detonation of the engine. I think many teams experimented with additives etc to try and combat this problem. I dont think it was teams blatently breaking the rules for a performance advantage all they were trying to do was to save the tempremental engines of the day. I know that Engine Developments machined the cylinder heads on the VW engines and placed in an insert of a higher grade of aluminium in to the combustion chamber to stop the problem.
