What's the matter with you? When someone says "where is Rob Smedley from" do you think they mean somewhere he moved to - Italy/Loughborough/Middlesborough - or where he was born?
Who said this tricky subject didn't need a thread?

I know tricky indeed!

Well you know I have to admit I was completely wrong. Last night after a few glasses of wine in celebration of Felipe's win I took it upon myself to find out from the horse's mouth so to speak - woke up this morning thinking "oh god what have I done?"

What a lovely man he is

Oh well, just goes to show
Top bloke anyway, as you say, positive about everyone, talks to the TV for us and evidently to individual fans too.
There's an article from last year about his role here...http://www.topgear.c...ories/14/1.html
which contains the wonderful engineers' view of drivers..."the driver is another tool"

And where are you from, Paradise?
My thoughts too: somewhere where the streets are paved with gold, I would guess. It's much better being up here among all the pits, the whippets, the slag heaps and the coal dust, choking on toxic fumes all day and walking 20 miles a day to work as we can;t afford cars. Exotic food up here = rice. it's that bad.

The gap between paradise and the North East isn't a small one
Most of the places I've lived and worked in Europe fit into that gap - closer to paradise end of this spectrum

'The North East' is a pretty big area - it's sort of to the North, and the East of England. Your experience of it will undoubtedly have been limited, but then that's OK. Having lived and worked in the Great Capital of London, and in beautiful Oslo, and lived in - variously - Cheshire, Manchester, the Isle of Man and Kent, I wouldn't swap this idyllic semi-rural existence for anything. I'm ten minutes from the most fun city I've ever known (although the football team is crap), five minutes walk from the most glorious coastline in the country, and in shouting distance of a selection of proper, traditional English pubs. What more do I need?

I would have been incredulous had it not been so laughable. All she was trying to sell was a dog lead !! You'd think she was comparing wages in London to wages in Lahore, not Liverpool.
Anyway, back on topic eh....
