Today in testing Luca Badoer did a 1m00.4 at Fiorano. I think that this is a track record(Please correct me if I'm wrong). If this is so then Ferrari are in very good shape for Suzuka. But don't ever underestimate McLaren and Newey.

Are Ferrari getting even faster?

Ferrari seemingly have had great advancements with the rear diffuser and overall aerodynamics. The also have a new engine in the pipe line.

Reading some German news magazines it seems that Mrv has got his info wrong! Ferrari used the old engine 049B and not the new one as stated in the Indy GP. Apparently they are testing the new engine today, hence Luca's good times today. They are speculating using it at Suzaka , it's undergoing endurance testing.

BILD druckt ihn hier!
The last paragrapgh more or less states the new engine 049C
has only been run in training and has yet to be used in the races. Apparently it's around 850 HP which is more than the 049B (I think the 049B is 825-830 HP)

It also says that Schuey will be practising his "starts", since he stalled in Suzaka in 1998 etc etc
It mentions that he is "Data Freak" and would for hours discuss with his mechanics the smallest of details about his car! .....kind of reminds me of Senna!

Yes, they are. They usually improve greatly at the end of the season. I think Schumacher will win this year.

Fastest testing time at Fiorano:
Luca Badoer(Ferrari)!!!! 1:00.226. 26 January, 2000.
MS had better watch his back
I read somewhere that every new driver to the Fiorano circuit (using a Ferrari) has broken the lap record on their first outing! Eddy Irvine did it and so did Luca Badoer. Can anyone confirm this?

Do you think that Ferrari are going to tell a German Paper there secrets and what engine they are using. They used it in Indy. They just didn't have it tuned to its fullest potential but it was the 049C. Of course in Fiorano and Maranello they have nothing to lose in testing at they have it going flat out. I will stick to what I know since the source is very good and accurate.

Who said anything about a 1 sec advantage which is ridiculous? I can see Ferrari have a 2 tenth advantage at least in qualifying.

I can't see how anyone could even guess how well the Ferrari team and the McLaren team will do in the setup of their cars and the development of their cars during the coming week and at the practice sessions at Suzuka.
I think the Ferraris are definitely getting faster. But so are the McLarens, the BARs the Prosts, the Jordans, etc etc. This is what everyone does during the year; car development. The slower lap time than the lap record does not mean a lot. When testing, they are probably only worried about making the car go fast through the sections of the test circuit that resemble the next grand prix circuit's characteristics. There is not that much relationship between Fiorano and Suzuka. They just use the telemetry to figure out what would happen when they go to the race circuit.
During the year, they have certainly caught up to McLaren and at some circuits they are quicker during the race. But it remains to be seen whether they are quicker at all circuits; I suspect not.
