Well, I think if it's the whole story you're after you need to be a little more accurate.
The incident at Interlagos in 2002 involved the medical car, not the safety car.
And I believe the FIA apologised to Sauber after the incident and changed their proceedures.
The medical car rushed across the track a very short time after the accident.
When you watch this footage you can see Heidfeld is surprised by its arrival and does everything he can to avoid hitting it.
Since 2002 you could count Heidfeld's unforced errors on one hand. Hardly a man prone to 'very serious mistakes that could have taken lives'.
And I can't find any reference at all to the ambulance crash you talk of. Please back this claim up.
