Anthony Hamilton -Whoops

But, as far as I know, that doesn't have anything to do with Anthony Hamilton. I almost had an accident today while driving carefully, within the speed limit.

Which just goes to show that speed limits are useless. If you are a **** driver you will crash regardless of the speed.

Weird post. And a bit off-topic, as it seems.

I hope for you it wasn't near a children playground. That would be pretty damning and certainly not acceptable for someone who has been involved into motorsport as a F1 forum member for so long.Originally posted by santori

Or it just goes to show that speed limits do make a difference - had it been above the limit, we might very well have been without the "almost" in the sentence "I almost had an accident today"...Originally posted by Josta

Come to think of it, all my close encounters with other cars have been performed while the gear was in reverse...

That would be why. If you drive everywhere backwards, then even if you stay under the limit it is dangerous.

Or rather that known spaces sometimes are more dangerous than unknown roads - all three of them occured on very familar ground. But I fortunately don't drive backwards all the time - less than 0,1 percent of the total time spent behind the wheel is a pretty accurate estimate.Originally posted by Josta

he should have been driving a benz, then he could have binned it and kept on motoring.
how much distance does it take to stop a carrera GT from 30mph btw?

It is a very strange phenomenon. Some people cant sleep without thinking of hamilton, his dad, his girlfriends, his crane, his relationship with alonso, his ......jeez. Guys give it a rest. His dad has a simple dent and it is headline news generating a big thread as this! It is his first accident in 30years, older than his son, older than some guys here and people want to hang and quarter him without knowing the facts of the accident? The poor man was even so embarrased he had to send his wife to sort the issue and people want to slate him? It is just nuts!

Crashing a borrowed Carrera GT must be likewise embarrassing. And expensive.

Lewis touched the walls in Monaco.
Tony touched a fence near home.
It was the very same corner of the car.

And Mosley isn't [involved in the sport]? We both know what Mosley had to say about speeding; that he would resign if he got caught speeding. Well, to my knowledge, Daddy Lew wasn't caught speeding, so that would be status quo - with Max, wouldn't it.Originally posted by kar
We don't know if he was speeding. But if he was, then his son made quite pointed and very specific comments about the responsibility of people involved in the sport to be role models. As the representative of Lewis' interests commercial, sporting and otherwise, he too has a responsibility not to popularise reckless driving and speeding.

it was funny when he made that speech - right after getting busted for speeding in France ;);)

Tree surgeon Daniel Winn, 23, told the Mirror: "I was working near his house and saw him leave in the Porsche. He started revving the car really hard and wheel-spinned off. He had the roof down and looked at me before he put his foot down. He roared off and 50 yards down the road lost it on the corner.
"The car spun around at 180 degrees and left the road. There was a terrible bang. I ran over and I asked if he was alright. He just said 'yes' and staggered off, looking really shocked.
"A bit later he drove back in a 4X4 to take a look at the Porsche. I rang to report the accident."

Dunno how much I trust that to be honest. The 'he looked at me and then roared off', seems a bit contrived.

That's my point....
car versus brick wall at 30 - lots of damage
car versus garden fence at 30 - not so much damage (e.g. a couple of splits at the back of the car)

car versus garden fence at 60 - lots of damage
think about it.

OUCH!!! I'd THOROUGHLY PISSED if that were my car...
On a lighter note you know how dad's can be, "Son, in my day we..." Well, looks like Dad is NOT the better driver despite having to walk to school ten miles up hill both ways.

Hamilton laughs off father's Porsche crash
Trains the preferred transportation method for Lewis
06/06/08 12:00
Lewis Hamilton on Thursday laughed off his father's crash at the wheel of a $600,000 sports car.
On Wednesday, Anthony Hamilton - who is also the 23-year-old McLaren driver's manager - crashed a borrowed Porsche Carrera GT through a hedge and into a children's playground near his UK home.
"I got Dad's email yesterday and I just laughed," Hamilton was quoted as saying from the scene of the Canadian Grand Prix by The Sun.
"He is a very good driver but I don't know what he was up to," the championship leader added.
To The Mirror, Lewis also said: "My dad's my manager and loves cars. But, whenever we go somewhere, I'd always rather go by train."

Even with TC + ABS, it's a beast.
I remember a Dyscovery Channel Rides program when Jay Leno drove the Carrera at Indy.
JL was trying to brake some kind of street car speed record there, but spun at high speed and was lucky to go downwards with no contact to the wall.

As for being "sharp" handling read evo magazine, autocar and car magazines. Also check out the TV program Topgear. They all claim that it's somewhat unforgiving at the limit. Even US car magazines insinuate this. I don't doubt it at all.
If I had Rothschild money I'd have one or two of them as well as a couple of GT3RSs - glutton that I am...
