Who do you rate the best German driver? I go with Vettel, he has the speed, and I think he will become a great. Same goes for Rosberg, albeit to a lesser extent. Nico seems very fast but somehow erratic. If Nick can find his good form from last year again, he might also be very successfull. But he's not the youngest anymore. Glock and Sutil are somehow trailing their veteran team mates, I'm not sure whether they can be really good. Sutil was outstanding at Monaco though, Glock was good at Canada. What's your opinion?

Voted Rosberg. Incredibly fast even if he's been erratic at times this year. Very hard to decide between Vettel and Heidfeld but I'd have to pick Vettel I think.

Rosberg can be probably as fast as top guys like Lewis, Kimi, Robert or Fernando but so far he definitely crashes too often. So my vote goes to Nick "Mr. Consistency, always in right time and place" Heidfeld.

Glock is a complete cock for a new F1 driver.

Where I was camping at Silverstone a lot of drivers when they got to their Hotel stopped and signed a few autographs before going in, Glock got his driver (rumored to be the test driver) to drive him around the back without stopping instead of stopping and doing his bit for the fans.

If you was someone like Senna or MS I could maybe understand, but for someone who is new then you'd think he would want to build up a good reputation.

All of them are in the disappointment territory this year. :

Vettel gets my vote.

Now Heidfeld, next Vettel. Biggest disappointment, Rosberg repeatedly being made to look ordinary by Nakajima (though in fairness Nakajima is probably very quick, if a little rough round the edges).

Nick, but Vettel is closing in.

Nick is reliable, good teamplayer and quick, just unlucky with this years car
Vettel looks superquick but still young, he needs to learn.
Sutil very very quick but way too many accidents
Glock, okish driver, not super, not bad
Rosberg dissapoints this year, error prone.

Why no DTM driver is available in the poll? Or at least the "other" choice? ;)

Reminds me of Nigel Roebucks top ten from 1985 (I think it was).

He didn't rate Senna as No. 1 with the reasoning that being the most promising and being the best were two different things. Using that logic I would say that the best right now is Nick Heidfeld and the most promising is Vettel. And covering my bets that in two years time, Rosberg might be blowing everyone away in a McLaren.

So, you forgot to put "in F1" either in the thread's title and in the poll's header? In my books 'active' means, er, active? In that case, none should be an option as well, perhaps, or not. But I am sure many know there are better German drivers out there...;)

Unfortunately, active or not, I still think it's Michael. Within group named I voted for Nico, edging by 1 micron SV; both better than their cars, both deserving BMW, Mercedes or a prancing horse.

I think Heidfeld's experience still make him the best of those options, but Vettel and Rosberg have some potential but are still too young and erroneous to be considered better.

Nick is by his own admission struggling in areas this year yet has already come 2nd three times  Great racer. He was awesome at Silverstone and surely now holds the all time double overtakes in one corner record too.

It depends in what you are looking for. I picked Heidfeld because he has the most experience and knows how to bring the car home. I like Vettel and Rosberg a lot but they make too many mistakes (they would be perfect to be the 2nd driver a long someone with experience). I like Sutil as well.

I voted Heidfeld. Clearly the best German driver out there. He may not be the most promising nor the fastest, but he clearly delivers. Sure he has the best car, but he has also played a big role developping the car. I also think that his pace is extremely good. Also one has to give him credit for not overdriving the car. It is very easy to do that if team-mate is bit quicker. Mentally he seems to be very strong. Still, there is no wins, which is hurting him.

Rosberg is quick, but he is team number one, clearly. The accidents are propabaly caused because he doesn´t have to be careful. The team loves him weather he crashes or not. Vettel may be the next MS, but the truly great drivers are in the top car by this stage of the career. He drove well in Indy for his age and surely he has shown great efforts in Toro Rosso so far this season. Hopefully he can turn all this promise into real results soon!

Timo Glock and Sutil are, I think, a bit behind these guys. They would be good drivers in good cars but the thing is, one has to stand out in some way. So far I haven´t seen any of this. Glock should be chasing Jarno hard. Sutil should have more showings like in Monaco(without passing under Yellow....).

Well, all of them have a hard season this year.

My vote went to Vettel.

Well, Heidfeld has the strongest team - mate ,in my opinion, but the way Kubica dominated him in parts of the season up to now, was still frightening.
Sutil showed that he is a good driver in extraordinary race situations like rain but otherwise struggles to match Fisichella and had such a lot of first lap collisions ... He looked better last year when he had weaker team - mates.
Glock has a tough team - mate as well ( Team battle 7:2; points 20:5) but it is his first full season ...
Rosberg had a fantastic first race ending up on the podium, but has the same points like newcomer Nakajima.
Further, he also had several incidents but had in contrast several good qualifying performances.

I finally picked Vettel because he had two points finishes in a Toro Rosso!!! Yes, he had several incidents as well but for example sunday's retirement was not his own fault. His team - mate Bourdais has to learn much so it's no wonder that he's more impressive than him and better. But still the man is 4 times ChampCar champion ... Further he will do well in the future, I'm sure.

Heidfeld has been disappointing this year.
Rosberg too, inconsistent.
Vettel - I expected more.
Glock - ditto.
Sutil - can't really judge him, but Fisi is beating him.

I voted Rosberg.

I would go for Rosberg, for what he has done (reasonably consistently) with the machinery at his disposal. Long-term, Vettel probably has the most potential.

Rosberg, Vettel - inconsistent.
Sutil - girly.
Glock - crashy.
Heidfeld - mediocre, but better than others overall.

I would say there is no best German driver these days.

I don't think that Heidfeld is mediocre; he's just paired with a super teammate.

Heidfeld.

Vettel seems talented rookie but needs more time to reach/pass Heidfelds level.

Rosberg is very fast at times but much too inconsistent and unlucky. New Webber?

Glock plain average so far.

Sutil. Has he ever finished a race?

On this season alone, it's tough to say Nico or Vettel, there cars stink.

But overall (and looking to the future) if given the same car I'd want them in this order.

Nico
Vettel
Heidfeld
Sutil/Glock

Glock's been quite impressive though in the last month (if you grade him against other rookies), it's not really fair to put him that far down but yeah.

Vettel has the potential

But i voted for Nick, he's highest in the championship with the most podiums, very good racer and a great racing brain.

Germany has got many good driver at the moment, for me Rosberg is the best of them, for the future I would keep an eye on Nico Hülkenberg, I rate him as just as good as Vettel and he could break in to F1 in 2010.

Despite Vettel's victory in Monza, I still think Heidfeld is best of them. He doesn't make mistakes, can gain advantage in wet/SC conditions, he is really good overtaker and defender. He is fast and consistent
BUT, Vettel will be the best german driver very soon.

Definitely Vettel. You have to take the chances you are given and convert them. Vettel has done that, not much more to ask for really. Heidfeld could have done a lot better with that BMW, especially this year, and also when he was with Williams. Who's fault is it he can't find qualifying pace? Ultimately his, he is the driver, and Kubica has obviously figured it out.

Rosberg is very inconsistent, which somewhat surprises me, but he can still rise above this and develop into a top driver. Sutil is also very up and down. And Glock is only now starting to show some promise, so too early to label him as the best of the Germans.

Last race, 4 of the 5 German drivers were in the points. None with top cars.
Only Sutil was taken out by Massa.
I'd be hard pressed to exclude any of them. Although the nations thing is a little lobsided.

I think, that Vettel proved his speed after Monza race. In wet conditions he is the best and I think he is the future of Formula One. Quick Nick is for sure to slow, as you can look at his comparison with teammate Robert Kubica in Qual. Rosberg is probably second after Vettel for me, he had a little of bad luck in Singapure, as he could win the race. Glock is better then veteran Jarno Trulli and Sutil is just to slow, but his race in Monaco was his best ever.

I voted for Vettel because he seems to have the best potential.

Rosberg I think can do better if he can get himself into a better team.

Heidfeld is probably "the best" right now, but he's been around for awhile - success should have happened by now.

Sutil - NO.

Glock - Better than Sutil I guess, but don't see anything happening.

Germany is doing well this year, altghou as some said, being second just means that you are first looser among rest of them.

Sutil, I don't know about him, but it's hard to tell whether is a car or driver; starting each race from the end seems little freeky.
