So dark clouds are threatening at Gilles Villeneuve and you can see lighting in the distance.

NASCAR has NEVER competed in the rain. The teams are readying the rain tyres, which were manufactured in 2001!

In the event of rain, there's a competition caution and the crews get three minutes to

a) fit the tyres
b) fit the windshield wiper(s)?
c) make whatever other changes such as keeping the driver drier.

WOW!

The umbrellas are out, and the caution is out!

Sure thing! Just go no NASCAR.com!

Sounds like other modifications are also

d) ensure rear brake light is working
e) install defogging equipment

It's official. The red flag is out on lap 8 for rain adjustments to the cars!

History in the making.

Ambrose's mechanics are struggling to put the wiper on its stud. Big time.

His wiper arms are coming off of the windshield under braking!

Speaking of whom, looks like Ambrose is the rainmaster of NASCAR. Hat's off.

Yes they have, the Nascar Canadian Tyres series ran in the wet just last month.

Just got back from the track. All I can say is "wow".

1- Marcos Ambrose is awesome
2- Ron Fellows was brilliant.
3- Carl Edwards did NOT have a wiper on his car. He had a squigee instead! Too funny. Watch clips of him during this race. He had his arm out the window trying to clean his windshield.

Other notables.

JVi drove a great race, too bad his team didn't install wipers on his car. He did not see the driver ahead. The second factor in his accident, was that it was very dark, and the rain was coming down hard.

Carpentier was just a machine. So calm. He paced himself the whole time.

Feel bad for Max Papis. He was doing so well.

lol. I just caught some of the footage. It was beyond pathetic the cars were able to do...in the dry! 30 seconds a lap slower than an F1 car, around a simple circuit :drunk:

In the wet, it was quite laughable. But, I suppose that's what you get when you put a V8 into an 18th century cart.

Good for you. You got to see a hell of a race. One for the books.

Real men driving real cars. Rain with no BS traction control/launch control/torque control/whatever new name you care to apply for traction control. 3400lbs, 800hp, rain, skinny tires =

Thanks for coming out and supporting NASCAR. The Canucks in the cars made a very good showing for themselves, Canadians can be proud.

Heck, I'm proud, and I'm US-ian! I love Canada though.

I said this before, but here's a mental picture for you:

Felipe Massa in the very same race in a bright red, prancing horse, Nationwide spec car.

Imagine the crew chief explaining that the skinny pedal on the right is connected to a cable that operates butterfly valves in the carburetor.

"The carburetor? What is this 'carburetor?' is this what you yanks call the ECU?

Heavy car + skinny tyres = great. Less aquaplaning.

It was good stuff, no question. But let´s keep in mind Ambrose (former open-wheeler) was pretty dominating, and even Villeneuve - who came from wussy category with lotsa toys - was leading the race in his first ever NW event. Neither was known as "rainmaster" in F1/V8 Supercars. Even with TC, F1 cars are difficult as hell to control on wet. Light car with wide tyres and reliance on aero is pretty much the worst combination out there. That is the reason F1 rain races go crazy while stock cars/sports cars/etc can run without too many problems. I do think the NW/Cup regulars did well; they had nothing on roadie/rain experts, but most took it easy and managed to avoid trouble.

Go and watch the interview on Nascar.com of Fellows when he comes in at the end of the race - it somes up beautifully what's wrong with F1. It's got nothing to do with the money and stakes involved - NASCAR's worth billions and what we saw there was genuine emotion rather than a stage-managed PR exercise.

That must be why Ron thanked the team, the sponsors and NASCAR for his win. Whenever the underdog wins, you´ll see real emotion. Be it NASCAR or F1. But you´ll also see PR exercise. NASCAR sure as hell isn´t any better than F1 there. What´s wrong with F1 is the cars cannot overtake each other. You can see great display of that as we speak.
