who do you feel is the best looking actress.
For me, it's Louise Edlind, from "Le Mans",
with Francoise Hardy from "Grand Prix" a close second.
Now, this should be a fun topic!!!

I thought this topic would get more attention. Cars, women, racing!!!
Maybe everyone is dusting through their old video tapes.
Louise Edlind is a sight to behold!

I thought the topic would generate more response also. Perhaps people are dusting off more than their vids? Wink....Wink....Nudge...Nudge....

I've never seen a picture of Helen Stewart, but A blurb in Autoweek got me wondering about how far the Stewart/Stoddard correlation went. JYS was talking about having an E-type on his honeymoon. "The car was fairly cramped but Helen was pretty agile. We've been married for 37 years."

Francios Hardy is the young woman that Nino hooks up with.

Pat Stoddard was played by American actress Jessica Walter, later famous for her role in "Play Misty for Me", with Clint Eastwood.
Helen Stewart is a very good looking women to this day, although I can't back Jackie up on her agility. The "wee Scot" could always turn a ham and egg sandwich into a banquet!!
As for "Le Mans", shame, shame!!!
It is one of the few motor racing movies that really spends it's time with the racing,
it should be required watching.

rated racing films. Snipets of it wre dead-on acurate while others took their usual dramatic licence. Pacino's performance is one of his best.
Marthe Keller drove me crazy with that heavy accent, "Did you find your Wabbits"? But I loved looking at her.

Did the accent drive you crazy in a sexual kind of way or in a "I can't listen to this anymore" kind of way?
MK - "Do you feel like screaming?"

Although the pedant in me has been noticing that large sections of that brilliant first lap sequence (which depicts the circuit better than anything else I've seen) appears to have been staged or mixed from elsewhere. Ford example, the Ahrens/Elford #25 privateer Porsche 917 skips away a huge distance in the last quarter of a lap, with Delany in the #20 917 performing a similar feat on team mate Ritter in the #21 car. A gap which closes remarkably into the chicane at Dunlop. Also the cars depicted in the first lap sequence appears to change from shot to shot, with some cars obviously unavailable for the staged filming down later. Notably the semi-factory Ferrari #12 (with the white nose) appears well up in some shots, but missing in others. Also some shots have the #25, #20, #21 Porsches chased by all four factory Ferrari 312P's, #8, #7, #5 & #6 then followed by the third factory Porsche #22 and another privateer Porsche in the #18 car with no other cars in sight when there should be. Yet in other shots we see one of the Matra's, the #12 semi-factory Ferrari and the #8 black/green Porsche 917. And one of the factory Ferrari's has obviously had a very bad start and is well back from the leaders.
And when Delaney crashes the #20 Porsche later, they've put some Gulf Porsche bodywork on the #11 Lola T70 that crashed earlier in the film. Amazing how they got it to fit.
But the film does depict well some important things about racing. Like how little visibility the driver has in the rain (one scene looking out the front of Stahlers Ferrari, we doesn't see an accident until passing it almost. Notice when cars are passing either of the two big film accidents you only see the other Gulf Porsches and factory Ferraris?
Maybe I'm watching it too much. Next time I'll just enjoy it rather than pick holes.....
I'll go watch "Rendezvous" and "Climb Dance" instead.

Staying on topic, Genevieve Page appears toward the end of 'Grand Prix' at Monza as Sarti's wife -- a consummately elegant French lady.

Nice piece of surgery on "Le Mans".
You definitely have way too much time on your hands.
Something of interest might be the book,
"A French Kiss with Death", it details the making of the movie and all the bits in between. It's well worth the read.
Karl,
As for Ms. Paige, if her character didn't come off as a pit viper, I might have found her a bit more attractive.

Now you've gone and let the "cat out of the bag".
What I find amazing, is that no one has agreed with me about Louise Edlind. As a point of information, she plays Ritters' wife
in the film. As one cameraman said, "She doesn't have a bad angle."

Also Clark Gabel had Barbara Stanwyck in 'To Please a Lady'. Not realy a racing film but it had race cars in it.

filmed the summer of '66 - That's 35 years young.
Nicole Kidmann, no argument from me, but Louise is better looking.
Joan Blondell, I never cared for the hourglass look, myself.
Barbara Stanwyck, I don't think she was ever young.

While I'm still playing the age game, here are some interesting stats.
Jessica Walter, born 1/41 - "Grand Prix" age,
25 at time of filming.looked older.
Francoise Hardy, born 1/44 - "Grand Prix" age, 22 at time of filming. looked younger.
Still working on Eva Marie Saint, I tend to think she is closer to Ms. Page's 35, than Walter's 25.
Anyone have any answers?

I saw Lousie Edlind in a theatre play a couple of years ago. She must be 60 or so. She's still a woman of great looks!

If I was put my hat in the ring ...then why not the delicious Piper Laurie in Johhny Dark (crap film, but she plays an engineer!) or the fetching Odile Versois from Checkpoint.

As for Grand Prix, well Francoise Hardy is easy on the eyes but I prefer my brunnettes to be like Jessica Walter.

For us in Sweden, Louise Edlind is connected to a childrens movie in the 60's (by Astrid Lindgren). She acted as big sister to a couple of kids on an island in the Swedish Archipelago. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE here, knows her as big sis "Malin", not as a beautiful woman! No-one knows about "Le Mans", and definitely not about her part in the movie.

No, she is not

I did not know that Emil i Lönneberga had a German name!
I have two daughters, both behaves like Pippi Langstrumpf, Fifi Longstocking or whatever...

...but both you and I must have been the age to see that "Malin" was pretty hot (but very far from indecent) in Vi på Saltkråkan. Anyway, I have a daughter too, and when she was that age, I went with her to the theatre to see another play based on an Astrid Lindgren story. And there was Louise!

Actually I had no idea she acted in Le Mans.

The actress EVERYBODY at Zandvoort seemed to be lusting after was the girl in the black or dark blue and green sarong(?)-style dress whose name - I think - was Jessica Walter. Having seen a lady of that name in later movies and TV series I find it difficult to credit she was so stunningly phwoarr in real life...
Funny thing, perception, isn't it...?.

Yes it is; however, as some would say in London, Francoise had quite a good "boat", as the picture above reveals
However, her singing was about as good as her acting:
"Ketch eh folling starrh an' poot eet een yourr pockett, nevaire let eet fade away" etc.
Oh dear
Meanwhile a leetle off topique, Brigitte Bardot, many years ago (before she became a friend of the earth etc.) appeared in a film in which the chief Vaselino drove a magnificent Lancia B24 spyder. Two beauties in one picture; not bad.

It is funny, you're right! And I suppose reasonable people can disagree as they say . . . but I was there too when the filming was going on, around and amongst everything else, and I clearly recall being captivated by Francoise Hardy. I saw it just the opposite I suppose - I thought she looked better in real life than in the movie - and I thought Jessica Walter looked better on screen than in person. But, as you say, perception is a funny thing and that's what makes the world go 'round!

These days she's a member of the Swedish Parliament as can be seen on her professional webpage.
Why not write her a line or two and remind her of Le Mans?
Would give her a good laugh if all of a sudden she got some fan mail about "Le Mans"
