This thread is a sign in thread for all real tifosi. I mean actual Ferrari fans. Not Michael Schumacher fans wearing Ferrari ****. I mean real diehard, through thick and thin, don't give a crap whos driving as long as the car is scarlett tifosi. And I don't mean, the "My fave driver is but I also like Ferrari out of all the teams" tifosi, I mean REAL tifosi. I do this so I know who to look for when they win the championship and this way I can avoid many of the annoying Schumacher fans (not all).

I guess I can be considered a die hard Ferrari fan. I was a fan before MS camer, and had he not went to Ferrari in 1995, I dont think I would have been a fan of his.

Me been Ferrari fan since age of 6 when Jody and Gilles were heros. Having a South African at Ferrari was a double bonus for me then :). Remember how depressing it was to shout for drivers like Arnoux, Tambay etc who didn't know what the front of the grid looked like? Never liked Prost or Mansell but became a fan for a brief period. Been a MS fan since 96...

I'm part Italian too (explained in the surname thread in the PC if you care to look) so count me in as tifosi ;)

Yeah, I've been a tifosi for as long as I can remember. Despite not being Italian, I do have very strong ties with the country, speak some of the language (poccino soltanto, purtroppo), and live almost next door to the largest Ferrari importer and sales centre in England.
I lived with the abuse from friends when the Dallara's with the Ferrari customer engine were faster in a straight line than the Scudaria, I sat on the edge of my seat when Jean Alesi went round time and time again on slicks in the rain (France '92) and I cheered when he won his only victory in Canada '95. Although I have seen videos of Jody Scheckter in '79, I wasn't old enough at the time to appreciate the racing, so I really really REALLY want to see Ferrari win the WDC this year. However, I'm not a "Schumacher Is God" basher - those that are devalue the contribution and spoil it for the real fans. I just stick my red cap on and shout at the screen and hope for a Ferrari victory. If that means a WDC or a WCC at the end of the season, then I will be a happy man.

Is that all right?

I would most definitely group myself among the diehard Ferrari fans.

If Gaston Mazzacane and Marc Gene were driving for Ferrari I would still be a Ferrari fan.

If Ferrari pulled out of F1, so would I (Hopefully though they would only do so to crush the Audi dictatorship going on right now in Sports Cars ;))

Even if Ferrari wanted to paint there cars some other color than red, I would still be a Ferrari fan. (A little disappointed, but a fan none the less.)

I have my complaints with the way some things have been done before, and they've missed the mark big time with some designs, but all and all a very worthy organization.

PS: What does one's nationality have to do with being a Ferrari fan?

I also love Ferrari but they dissappoint me in the way they have strayed from their roots and rebuilt the team around one driver.

Enzo would turn in his grave if he knew.

I am half Italian so I qualify there. I think I qualify through that fact that I hated Mansell and Prost before and after they raced for the Scuderia but I was a fan of their's while they drove for the team. I am a fan of anyone driving a Ferrari.

I sigh every time I see a Ferrari drive by on the street.

Having said that there is only one thing better than being a Tifosi and that is to be an Alfisti.

Cheers
Matt

Well I can clearly see one of the administrators of the league is here - The Swerve!
Is that you Matt? :)

I allways liked Mansell and never cared for Prost but respected him. My love for Ferrari originates from the team's history and the passion that comes with it. When I started following F1 in 81 there was just one driver for me and you all know his name. The combination of GV and Ferrari is the ultimate for me and sadly only Alesi got close. However, you will not hear me complaining about MS and the current situation. I acctually care more about the race wins than the WDC or WCC. I enjoy each race and don't view the failure to win the WC as a catostrophy. All I want to see is Ferrari being compatitive.
I can sure critisize the team and the drivers, but I don't expect them to be perfect. I do regard MS move on JV in 97 as unexceptable.

Being a tifoso outside of Italy is acctually easier. The mystique is so much stronger. If I were to live in Maranelo or in Scarperia (very near Mugello), some of that would be lost.

Ethan, you're right on every account.

Senninha,
perhaps you could explain to me why you HATE Ferrari. I guess it has to do with MS and the team's support of him. If that is the case, I have to tell you that I understand this, but I also think that this is the problem of F1 today which totally centers around success. I HATE when people say that Ferrari should be different from all other teams, but also say that when they were (like untill 1995) they were losers who lost to smaller teams. This kind of double standard drives me crazy. How can Ferrari compete with the other teams with one hand tied behind its back? However, I will suffer if they dropped the red color.

Schumacher could leave, and I'll still cheer for Ferrari.

Schumacher is just an added bonus to my favourtie team.

But don't get me wrong, I'm a schumacher fan first though.

Not a tifoso, not remotely Italian, but been cheering for the reds since I was a child.

My mother used to work for Finnish importer of Fiat. My uncle used to be Fiat salesman (ahhah, also Honda, BMW, Merc though). My two other uncles used to rally professionally, mostly with Fiats due to relations. They also were rabid Ferrari fans, and that's where my love for the team originates from I guess.

My first car was scarlet red Turbo Uno. A piece of crap, but Italian. Kind of grown out of the fan thing, but I still put on my Ferrari shirt for the deciding races each season and go downtown to watch them in a pub.

I've remained a Ferrari fan through the Hakkinen era. That's in Finland. That's several street fights. Count me in Gretzky.

i became a ferrari fan when mansell
joined and won at the first race that
season.
I truly became a member of the Tifosi the day senna
tripped up over taking shulesser at Monza. Berger and
Alesi won the only race that year that wasn't won
by a Maclaren. 1 Month after enzo had passed away.
that was the day i truly came to realise why ferrari are
so important.

No i'm not italian, but i am European and i hope that's
good enough.

Anyone not in the red cars, are the enemy. Anyone.

In my cubicle at work, I have:
- an 11x17 poster of the F300; taped to it is the Ferrari emblem/tag that came with the shirt I bought
- a Hot Wheels (the small ones for $1) F355 on top of my monitor
- a pic of the F1-2000 with the race dates up on the overhead cabinet
- my own Ferarri wall paper on the screen
- Ferrari F-1 screensaver
- a picture of me with my son, and I'm wearing my black Ferrari T-**** and Ferrari cap.

My parents just came back from Italy, and a cousin of mine sent my brother and I Schumacher caps ( the one he always wears, with the Ferrai emblem next to the #3 on the side). They're much better than the ones they had in Montreal, as the one's from Italy are 100% cotton, and the Ferrari/#3 part on the side are actually stiched in the cap. The ones at the GP in Montreal, that part wasn't stiched in, it was actually made of rubber. Sad. My uncle also sent me a Ferrari rain jacket.

Yes, I think I'm a fan.

Ferrari fan since I first saw the '62 GTO.
Fan of the teams first and drivers second. Probably because of my engineering background.
Favorite driver pairs for 'my' team:
Prost/Mansell
Alesi/Berger
Not a big fan of Schu because of 'his tactics'. I'd rather have Hakk. If Schu 'brings it home' legitimately, I'll be a bigger fan. What makes me a fan is racing ability combined with good sportsmanship. For me, Hakk is one of the best when I look at it that way.

I cheered for Ferrari from '76 to '83 and again in '89 and '90. They really had their spirit broken by Senna's move at Suzuka in '90 and I lost interest when they had over-paid losers for drivers and they allowed Barnard to move design and construction of the cars to England. At that point, they were no longer Ferrari in my eyes. Then Michael Schumacher came and restored the glory of the team and brought in his design team who would work in Italy instead of England. When Schumacher leaves, there is a good chance that the team will fall once again. Ferrari was about the passion for the sport of one man for the first 38 years of the World Championship. After he died, Ferrari was just a big socialist F1 team with factions and lack of focus. Michael Schumacher returned Ferrari to its roots. One team built around the drive of one man. It is a wonderful thing.

They were my favorite team from 1979-1983, especially during the turbo era with Pironi, Villeneuve, Arnoux, and Tambay, and 1990 with Prost. I remember GV and DP consistently making these incredible starts in the 1981 car then digging in to hold off the train that inevitably resulted within a few laps. In the late 80s their occasional wins were welcome against the McLaren and Williams parades, most memorably Mansell's pass of Senna at the Hungaroring. I had a large model of the 126C2 which is one of my favorite GP cars despite its tragic history. In short, the driver is a factor in how much I like the team.

Sean, you didn't care for the Arnoux-Tambay pairing? Though he did have his off moments, RA could run with the likes of Prost, and kind of fit the Ferrari spirit of the time. He took the 1983 title to the last race despite being the only one of the contenders who faced competition from his teammate and being on Goodyears which were believed a handicap at many venues. The year after, he did tail off, as did many in the wake of McLaren.

Pinchevs,

My "hate" for Ferrari has nothing to do with MS. Of course i'm not happy with Rubens' situation. Ferrari's crew is f... him.

1. As a follower of brazilian drivers, Ferrari never was a open door for them, despite their great results. I'd rather the brit's teams. I love Lotus.

2. Politics - Ferrari can finish a driver career easily. Remember Prost and Capelli? I'm afraid with Rubens, now.

3. Some drivers looks for Ferrari to be more famous. Generally, good drivers are hyper overated, only for driving there.

4. The most important: the tifosis. Some examples, that marked me a lot:

In San Marino '88 there was a message from them to NP: "il tamburello ti aspeta" - "Tamburello waits for you", since NP made a real comment about Enzo Ferari and Fiat. If you don't know, NP almost die in Tamburello in 87.

In Monza '89: Senna was leading easily Italy GP and suddenly his engine blew up. Senna spun at Parabolica in front of tifosis and they started to curse Senna is a devil. Senna kept very scared and sad for it. All of it, only cause Prost , still a Mc Laren driver, would be at Ferrari in 90.

5. I'm a romantic: for me the driver is still more important then the team.

etc...

Cheers,

All im saying is that if you want to talk about people with no ethics than look no further than your god and saviour Ayrton Senna.

Senna was one step away from driving for Ferrari. He had even signed a pre-commitment deal with ferrai saying that if Maclaren didn't come up with the green backs then he was theirs. Prost and Senna at ferrari. surely the greatest team that never happen.
Senna was posssibly the greatest natural driver i have ever seen but he could play hard ball just as well as anyone. to claim he was a God is perhaps a little over the top. the man could inspire a nation and show the world how to hussle a fast car but the day he "deliberatly" drove Prost off the track at Suzuka is the day he lost his Godhood status for me. Mansell was a winging brummie but he never drove any one off the track and he'd almost kill himself time after time before he won the WDC. No one claimes he was a god do they.

Still Ferrari is tops whoever drives for them.

I've been a Ferrari fan since the 60's (Lotus too). Part of the passion involves supporting the Ferrari drivers. Let's face it, the cars don't drive them selves. Being unclear if "Tifosi" means Ferrari fan or Italian Ferrari fan, I have never refered to myself as that. In my case "long suffering" Ferrari fan might be more apropriate. :)

A tifosi is a fan period. Be it soccer or F1, Italy or England. A soccer fanatic in England is a "tifoso" (or is tifoso to say it properly).

However, I like the tag.
