I read a great BB about F1 video games and I was hoping I could add my 5 cent to it. I sure hope to get some feedback from all F1 Fans out there who have tried some good games. I am dying to find a really good F1 Video game!!! ( Jacques Villeneuve is working with a Canadian Software company on a F1 Game which is scheduled to be realised in 2001. I can't wait for that one especially since JV will be involved in the project)

I, too, have been VERY dissapointed with the current F1 Video games. F1 2000 Playstation has GREAT graphics, but the expert level is CRAP!!! WAY TOO EASY!

F1 World Championship (1999 season-Expert level) is pretty realistic and a bit challenging. But the graphics are not as good as F1 2000 and the cockpit view is not good enough.

The best F1 game I have tried ( in terms of challenge, wear and tear and multiple options for the setup) is Formula 1 Racing ( PC-Expert level). Great graphics ( not as detailed as F1 2000 Playstation) but definetly much better than F1 1999 WC.

I would reccomend Formula 1 Racing (1998 season) over all the others. The intensity and challenge at the expert level will make you literarly sweat. And mistakes are not easily forgivable (like in F1 2000 Playstation).

As to other racing games, Colin McRae' "Rally ( Intermediate level) " Playstation 1999 is terrific!!! Very realistic and it leaves very little room for too many mistakes. Great graphics as well.

I bought the " Testing at Le Mans" Playstation game( Expert level). Great cover picture on the CD box, but the game will not give you a sense of why Le Mans is such a great racing event. The game is a rip-off ( although the V12 engine sound is one of the best I have heard in any games)

If you can suggest any other racing games, let us all know.

Thanks

The ONLY racing simulation worthy of the space on your hard drive is Grand Prix Legends. All the rest are crap!

For a start, if you want a proper racing simulation then throw your Gaystation out of the window and get yourself a good PC and wheel and I mean good. Then if you want a F1 racing sim that is written and designed by some one who goes single seater racing and had input from Sir jack Brabham and real racing drivers use as a training program then go and get Grand Prix Legends. Nothing and I mean nothing can touch this for reality. Good graphics, great sound, realistic tracks and computer AI to die for but the physics model is realistic so its very very hard. It will take you a week before you can do a few laps consistantly with a good pace. Also online play is the best.

Grand Prix 3 is good and has a lot of good points but does not have the driving realism. Graphics are good, Computer AI is probably the best, Wet weather is amazing and the game is a lot of fun but the physics model is not realistic but it is the best modern F1 racing sim to date and beats anything on any platform.

F12000 is not bad but you need a ninja PC to run it. Graphics can be good on some cards and the sound is OK. The physics model is not bad to be honest. lots of understeer which is right for the grooved tyres. Not very accurate tracks though and the computer AI is terrible even after a patched game. Still its not bad but GP3 is better.

F1 racing Sim and Monaco Grand Racing (F1RS2) has not bad graphics but the games are generally arcady and has little to no feel in physics. Sound is poor and the AI is good but is nothing compared to GP3. Worth avoiding.

If Rally is your thing then get Rally Masters. It will blow you away. The physics, sound and graphics are the best and make Colin McRea look like a toy. I really can't fault this game in anyway. Online play is also fantastic and very stable.

Rally Championship is OK. Real modil one photorealistic stages and so you could be doing one stage for about 20/25 mins but the physics model is questionable. Some say it is realistic some say not. You will either love it or hate it. Sound is a bit poor also.

Colin McRea is good but old now and Rally Masters does it much better. Still, the graphics are OK as is the sound and its still worth checking out as its on budget but it may be worth waiting as Colin McRea 2 is out in November.

Sega Rally 2 is not to bad but again Rally Masters does it so much better. 100% arcade and fun but not really worth it unless you want to relive the exact same experience from the arcade.

For motorbikes get GP500. Easily the best motorbike sim and has stunning graphics and physics model. Alternitivly get Superbike 2000/2001. Also very good but I think GP500 has the edge for realism. Both titles suffer a little in the computer AI but are still good games and definatly worth it if you like bikes.

Sportscar racing is a bit thin on the ground but there is Sportscar GT. Great graphics. Not bad physics but the computer AI is not to hot and this takes the longevity away from the game. Sound is also poor.

TOCA 2 is great fun but not realistic. Graphics are OK but a little cartoon like. Sound is awsome except for the skid sound and the computer AI is good but easy. Worth getting if you want something light hearted and I find overall better that Sportscar GT because you can have a good race with the computer.

Nascar 3 is OK if you like driving in circles. graphics OK, Computer AI OK. Sound is good but the physics model is weak. Not really a challenge.

Nascar Heat. Great graphics and sound and the physics model is good but the games has many bugs like the lack of yellow flags even after a patched version of the game. I caused a 5 car pile up with a multiple roll and no yellow flags or pace car. Still, its good but I would wait for Nascar 4 if driving round and round and round is your thing. Sorry, I nearly fell asleep then :)

The Need For Speed series are acrade racers. Good graphics and great fun but I do not know to much else about them. I hear that one or two are pretty good but I have not tried them.

The game worth keeping an eye on is World Sports Car. This game should be awsome and be probably the best racing sim ever. Everything is being designed to be perfect. Accurate tracks, car models, physics, sound. Everything so keep an eye out for that.

A few other games worth keeping an eye on are Swedish Touring Car Championship 2000 which is done by DICE who gave us the great Rally Masters. Pro Rally 2001. This was supposed to be realistic but the latest news is that it is not. V Rally 2 has great graphics but is in the same mould as Sega Rally so expect full on arcade. Nascar 4 which is brought to us by the guy who gave us Grand Prix Legends so expect realism at its upmost. Sprint Car Racing (??) by Ratbag is meant to be good but I have no idea really.

Well thats it I think. Any questions then just ask.

That's crap

Try GP3. Properly. Get up to speed and it gets better and better, and once GP4 is released it will be the greatest. GPL is great tho :)

That Playstation game they play before every race. Is that really how it sounds? If so it sounds....umm crap.

GP3 is THE best modern day F1 simulation. Nothing else comes even close.

F12000 is rubbish. It looks bad and sounds worse.

All the 'simulations' from UbiSoft are crap as well.

Grand Prix Legends is pretty damn good. If I was after an older era GP sim, I wouldn't think twice about getting that. But as it is, I need to be able to drive as Schumacher, so GP3 is for me.

As for other racing sims, TOCA 2 is really good. Compared to GP3, it's easy, as I suppose the 2 litre touring cars are compared to F1 cars.

And would have to agree with Linus27 and say get rid of any console and get yourself a decent PC and steering wheel and pedal set. Much better than consoles.

I was running "PowerF1" - 95 season (Mansell in the midwing MacLaren) game on my old PC for about 4 years until I purchased a new one, and got me GPL and GP3, I have to say GP3 is very nice, its about the best F1 sim yet, but it should be its the newest. I do like the graphics after sorting out 2000 season cars and drivers, if it was that easy why wasn't it released like that????? Anyway the rain is cool, the tracks are pretty accurate, but the play is just .......boring. However it just p.sses me off for not being good enough.

GPL is fan-blooming-tastic. Its such a challange, I am only half way through testing the different cars on one track. I think I will be playing this for a very long time. And i havent figured out how to update it yet, can I get FF for my wheel?? Brill just brill.

Oh by the way PowerF1 is still great fun. Much better than anything from the Playstation stable ever was/is. And almost as much fun as GP3
