I know this slightly off topic but it is sort of nostalgia related.

Having watched highlights of the Cart season whenever it appears on UK tv - I have seen interviews with Barry Green - of Team Kool Green. He appears to have an Australian accent - which set me wondering...

At least 20 years ago I met an Aussie F3 driver of the same name in the normal 'FlagMan meets racing driver scenario' - he had just deposited his car in the tyre wall at my feet!. We got chatting whilst picking up the bits and pieces - he was working as a mechanic for Chevron cars at the time and had built the car mainly from left-over bits from factory rebuilds of customer cars.

I was just wondering if it was the same guy?

Just what happens to the dozens of Australians who head off for Europe and a racing career isn't clear.
Barry Green raced Formula Ford with a black Elfin during the seventies, was quite competitive despite his size and carried the same brash exterior appearance he now has.
Did he go to England before America? quite likely.
He is the same Barry Green....

Ray - Thanks for that - I had an idea it was the same guy as I recall reading of a Barry Green acting as a mechanic for one of the CART teams about 10 years ago.

Like you say - there must many Aussies who have come over to UK to try their luck - I guess the most successful must be what was known at the time as Team AIRO - standing for Australian International Racing Organisation - a grand name for a small F3 team -all living in a flat in Earls Court - I think Alan Jones was one member and possibly Brian McGuire - can't remember who else was in it.

Jones and McGuire both sold second hand cars, as have many of the other Aussies who have come over. Is it something to do with the bargaining of prices generally in Oz thats makes them good at this or do we just get the used car dealers?
