Ever wanted to put the driving to the forum name? Even wanted to show these damn Ferrari or McLaren fans a thing or two on the track? LOL I'll stop sounding like an infomercial now.

An idea was to have a race night or meet and greet from people on the forum. Agreeing to a mod like Formula BMW's (open to suggestions) which suits beginners but is open wheel and have a fun nights racing.

Nothing serious just a bit of fun.

A couple of points

- Need someone from Europe with a decent connection to host

- Need input for the best time and date which suits the majority of people, due to timezones there can be some issues but should be able to work something out.

- More the merrier

- Mods and tracks are up for debate, but Formula BMW's on modern F1 tracks sounds like an option

So far 3 people are potentially interested..

- HoldenRT
- karlth
- kar (cmon McLaren fans or Max haters what are you waiting for :D)

Whether you've never driven much or consider yourself a pro it's all about a bit of fun atmosphere where setups can be shared. Short fun races etc.

If you have any thoughts or want to be a part of it, have your say. :)

This sounds like fun, but I'm already in 2 leagues and I keep on missing races there... Dunno, I might show up in a race or 2 but can't promise being a regular driver.

Personally my fav mod is the 1985 F1, but the F BMWs are fun too.

Heh, yes where are they :-) Karlth might be able to let them know in advance what they are getting themselves into first though... :p

No pressure man, it doesn't have to be any serious commitment or regular thing. Just a once off if that works for you. Either way, it's nothing serious just a bit of fun. Myself I have never driven Formula BMW's but am not exactly looking to go out and start learning them in advance. But rather show up on the day and do some laps. :)

You need to come back and join WR's Caterham racing!

Depending on time / date and the mods involved, i'm interested in racing :)

wrighty, I prefer modern cars but to be honest if we can get enough people interested, I'd be happy even if it was a go kart mod. Maybe some type of vote or discussion could be involved for the mod once it's decided we have enough people to move foward.

Should we let this topic stew and marinate in it's juices for a bit? It seems like not many people check this section of the forum, either that or they just aren't interested.

At the same time the season is nearing a close, and people mightn't be too interested after the season ends.

What do you guys think?

Hiya m8,
Point taken re: the mod, as you say the mod doesn't make for a great race, thats usually down to the people ;) so FBMW or Legends or anything thats at the 'pick up and play' end of the modding scale (ORR trucks anyone? :D woohoo lol) is good for me.
Re: server i have one definite offer from a good friend of mine who uses a server based in France which should be ok (he does pay for the server but i'll buy him a pint and a pie when we're at a meet together lol) and i can serve off my pc if worst comes to worst (i've carried testing servers before but i only have 448 upload connection so it wouldn't be the best for multiplay if we get over a dozen involved).
If there is interest i'd agree a poll to pick the mod would be best....i'm happy to follow the concensus.....i'm equally slow in all mods

i'll keep an eye on the thread m8, we'll sort summat out

ps - next time you're in www.rfactorcentral.com pop in to the stock cars section, then into the F1 stockcars and National hotrods pages....that's our mod group  . If you leave a comment, you get an extra point for it being positive, and 3 extra points if you can get 'Lewis Hamilton' into your comment in a proper context  , i'll know it's you then haha.

Best wishes

I've had a couple of stints with the FBMW cars this morning again (at Interlagos and at OLDring), and they're definitely nice for this. Easy yet challenging.

Hello.
I would be interested in rfactor races. My favourite mods are these open wheelers :

Indycar 95 : http://www.rfactorce.....20CART Season
GP2 : http://www.rfactorce...m?ID=GP2 Series
Formula3 : http://www.rfactorce.....roseries 2007

and of course F1 : http://www.rfactorce...?ID=F1 2007 MMG

Cheers

How would people feel about a race night next week on a Thursday night say from 8:30pm to 11:00pm GMT?

I'm thinking just to get as many people out and have some fun racing we should race the meganes as a warmup race, followed by the formula BMWS.

I'm thinking Silverstone National for the Meganes and Brands for the FBMWs.

I want to get at least 8 people committed before going ahead though. Please leave a message here to indicate your interest and availability. If there's enough consensus I'm happy to move the day and time. But it has to be supported by the majority of people interested in playing.

There will be stats and videos available after the session :-)

And tears, glorious tears :D

Sounds good, but I need to test the mod first when I get home, I'm particularly useless with certain cars. (and by useless I mean spinning too much, being slow is normal in all cars :p )

Agreed. Tried playing it all night to tweak the setup to dial out the awful rear end snap but in the end you can only fight the mod creator so much.

If we can get the numbers definitely wrighty. If we have 8 by the end of the weekend we'll go ahead with it all. I'll pm you then and try and sort out the server details.

I'd love to do this.

Unfortunately I race rFactor on a Celeron Laptop. In fact rFactor says that my system isn't sufficient to run it, but by tweaking the inis I forced it into accepting it ;-)
So I cannot do anything above 10 cars on the lowest settings. Anything faster than a Formula3 car is too hard to control with keyboard-driving and the lag times my system produced

So I think I will lurk around here until I have a decent machine!

Indeed, you can't touch kerbs at slow speed with this mod, run over one and you will spin, how's that posible? :drunk:

Everything is possible with dodgy physics :-)

Now as for tonight we're racing Megane 2.02 patch at the bundled Silverstone and the Formula BMWS at Brands.

That's okay, I'm gonna call this off for this week guys because of a lack of a decent server.

I'm going to go ahead for next week and organise one myself so that we can all play without lag.

Hopefully we can get a few extra people to commit too :)

Sorry for those who were looking forward to tonight, if you can make it same time next week we'll be able to go!

After years of playing F1 Challenge, I just bought this frigging game. Now I need to get a semi decent graphic card, but I will definitely be eager to play with you folks.

BTW, what is the best F1 mode? I liked Rh05 for F1C, is there something like it for Rfactor?

I personally don't like the modern F1 mods much... the most popular in terms of realistic physics seems to be CTDP 2005, which I believe is a direct conversion of what you're talking about - but the cars don't look that good IMO and the physics are so realistic that last time I tried, I couldn't keep the car on the road. F1RFT08 also seems to be very popular because it has the cars from the 2008 season, but it's an "illegal" mod (uses car models done by other authors without permission). Another popular modern F1 cars are ISI's BMW Sauber F1s that come with the game, here's the latest model (2008 season): http://www.rfactorce.....0Sauber F1.08

Best F1 mods for me: the 1985 F1 7-car beta and Grand Prix 1979.

Thanks. I'm all for realism at this point, I played F1 C much more than a non-teenager is allowed to. Do the mods co-exist with each other without any problems? I mean, can you have that F1 05 and 1979 installed at the same time?

I think I have like 12 mods and 150 tracks installed. :p They co-exist fine. Just make sure to select the "racing series" you want in the user control thing, because some mods don't work in "all cars and vehicles" mode.

And I do like realism, I just happen to think in real life they try making it as easy for the driver as possible. :) Cars in real life might have issues but usually they don't actively try to kill you. The '85s win for me because they do a bloody good representation of how difficult it is to handle the delayed, sudden burst of power from the turbos, yet with some practice you can just right about catch any incoming spins at the last moment. The '79s I had a little trouble to handle in the beginning but now they almost feel too easy - but the feeling of immersion and the detail of the mod is awesome.

Don't forget setting your force feedback right... there's this plugin called RealFeel that improves force feedback a lot, but doesn't work with all mods, you can tell by how weird it feels when it's on. For example, it works with the '79s but not with the '85s. For the mods that don't use it, there was this thread at racesimcentral.com forums (http://forum.racesim...ad.php?t=327696) that explains how to improve the force feedback and it works awesome for me. You can turn RealFeel on and off through the keyboard by setting a key on the controls settings thing.

It's a bit hard in the beginning to understand all these configurations and stuff, but in the end it's worth it, trust me. :)

First quarter of 2009 I believe... Upgrades include the possibility of taking relays in Enduro races (the widely used realfeel plugin currently makes this bug in rF), better yellow flag rules and most of all dynamic weather. Rain will fall with various degrees of intensity, increasing and decreasing during races and the actual path of our cars will dry up the surface accordingly. Can't wait to see that, although the downpoint of course is that it will take time for modders to convert their mods to rF2...

I needed a break after the end of the season. From the forum and thinking about racing and F1 in general.

I completely forgot about this topic though. Oops. :( Nice to see some interest though, good work kar. Shame the night didn't go ahead as planned.

You'd think in the actual season it'd be easier to get more people, but then again there are a fair few hardcore fans here that follow F1 even in the offseason.

CTDP06 is released in a few days. I'm sure it'll be one of the best mods ever made for rfactor. CTDP05 is maybe the best F1 mod for rfactor, or definately the best modern F1 mod. CTDP are so methodical and take so long to release it like a professional company. So while the wait has been frustrating the quality will be fantastic. As opposed to the quickly released mods that people often complain about.

I'm happy to race anything to be honest, but some laps in the 06 cars would be nice. 06 was my favourite season in terms of car configuration and rules.

Honestly, if this is ever going to happen, it'd probably be best to plan it around Melbourne GP. Imo peak interest for F1 is the season opener and the season finale. For the best chance to get the most numbers to show up.

Hey guys,

Just got into rFactor last month or so. Only racing the CTDP 2006 F1 mod at the minute. Im very impressed with it. The car models are stunning and the driving experience is very convincing once you get it all set up to your liking which admittedly can take a long time. For example there are horrendous vibrations when you drive in the cockpit view which you can reduce in the car folders cockpit info ini file (not an ingame option). Getting the right setup makes a huge difference too. Particularly downforce and diff settings.

Going to be driving for http://formularacing.org/ in the http://www.formula-simracing.net/ league World Championships this year.

Put me down for any casual races in any formula and ill be there :)

Yep, I'll be up for a few races also! Although maybe best I wait until I get my new steering wheel at the end of the month, my current one keeps resetting while driving and spearing me into the nearest car/wall :( :)

I haven't got the greatest connection to host a huge number of people, but with the on and off interest it doesn't seem like a problem.

I'll probably host some sessions around the GP weekends. For example in the two hours in between Saturday practice and qualifying, or in the hours before the race. Or after qualifying.

It will be with Formula BMW cars at this point. They are user friendly and somewhat mimick this years regs (slicks, low aero) but are still open wheelers. http://rfactorcentra...?ID=Formula BMW (install 2.0, then 2.2 patch) It's all a bit of fun afterall. Could change to proper F1's if anyone shows up, and people want to change.

If you are interested, pay attention to the autosport live chat. http://live.autosport.com/ As the sessions end, I will say the room name and the password. The tracks will be default rFactor tracks, to ensure that everybody has them (Nurburg, Silverstone, Montreal, Barcelona etc).

Will do some testing, and if some people show up, we can have a race. :) If there is any interest, maybe it can create some momentum towards a bigger "official" night, where there are bigger numbers and a proper host.

Yesterday 3 people showed up and we had a bit of fun (hadn't driven in ages but was sandbagging  ) but today my wheel has broken, so can't host for a while. :|
