Hello,

I'm looking for the chassis numbers of the Lola Mk4 used by:

John Surtees at the 1962 USA and South African GPs. (Mk4 or Mk4A cars?)

also

Masten Gregory drove a Mk4 or a Mk4A at the 1963 USA and Mexico GPs? And which chassis BRGP43 or 44?


I have chassis BRG41 to 43 = Mk4, BRGP44 as the only Mk4A (total of 4 chassis built) and for the record:

1962 - Bowmaker Yeoman Racing Team (never used in World Championship races)

BRGP42
1962 - Bowmaker Yeoman Racing Team
1963 - Reg Parnell (Racing)

BRGP43
1962 - Bowmaker Yeoman Racing Team
1963 - DW Racing Enterprises (Bob Anderson)

BRGP44
1962 - Bowmaker Yeoman Racing Team
1963 - Reg Parnell (Racing)

Do not know which chassis, can anyone help ?

I thought I'd look this up in Neil Nicoll's book published by F1R only to find that #2 at the Australian GP 10 Feb 63 is said to be Bib Stillwell (BT4), Surtees (BRG 42) being #12. Any explanation ?

I don't know why the book has those numbers but Surtees definitely had No 2 and Stillwell No 6.

Yes
Unlike the proper Black Books, Nicoll's numbers throughout are his own private listings, entirely unconnected with race numbers

But, if Surtees used BRG43 at the USA GP, and being this the usual Salvadori car, why they change?

During first practise session, from Autocourse:"Surtees lost the Lola in a spectacular manner, going off at the Loop and motoring through the bushes for about 150 feet until finally stopped by a tree. Fortunately Surtees complained only of a sprained back, but the Lola damage was enough to prevent the car from starting on Sunday. The cause for all this was a broken steering link.". So Salvadori's car was allocated to Surtees for the second practise session and for the race. His team mate stayed as a spectator.

I've just missed the "spectator" factor before I ask.
