A bizarre story:

story here

It seems that local radio said that Lewis would be visiting Croydon (armpit of the universe) when they meant Woking. But McLaren don't have any offices or facilities in Croydon (don't blame them) - but the paper still found 'one disappointed fan'. Where was he expecting to see him?

What other places didn't Lewis visit yesterday? I certainly didn't see him. Did you?

Lewis totally and unabashedly shunned the entire Washington, DC metro area. In case anyone needs a sound bite, now that I think about it, I'm definitely disappointed by Lewis' diss.

Yeah! He wasn't here in Amsterdam either!

He didn't say he was coming here.

And he didn't come here.

That's just plain wierd!!!!!!

Something for the press hounds to get their teeth into!

P.S. I was born in Lewisham, I would avoid Croydon as well!!

OhOh! There could be worms and cans involved here.

I waited for hours and Lewis just decided not to come to Torquay. I am really disappointed. I stood in the queue in the wind and the rain. How arrogant of him to just ignore his fans and not turn up. Even worse, he never even said he was going to be there, we just expected it.

ETA: I used to live in Croydon, so i don't blame him for not showing up there.

He wasn't in Minsk :( Instead there were many crazy Zenit fans. Not a good substitution IMO.

I saw him crash a UFO into the Loch Ness Monster a few months ago, with Elvis. But he didn't come to Leicester, so I remain disappointed.

One Croydon fan said: “I am really gutted I was looking forward to seeing him after his victory. I have no idea how this mix up could have happened.”

It takes about half an hour to get from Croydon to Woking by train (changing at Clapham Junction).

If they were really all that gutted about missing out on the opportunity to see him, they could have gone to Woking to stand around near the McLaren HQ hoping to see him on his way out...

He did go to Stevenage however not really much better than Croydon. He went to the cinema (on a Wednesday I wander if he used orange Wednesday to save himself £7. Prob suck a pack of sweets in too to avoid the high cinema prices) ;)

Just got off the crystal ball with Elvis. He said that the crash was actually with Martin Luther King (who apparentley drives like a nutcase!) They had stopped to pick up Lewis and give him a lift to the moon where he had a secret meeting with Barack Obama to discuss arranging for John McCain to always have lower pressure in his Nike Pumps!!!!! :p

Tony.

Edit: This is getting surreal!

I'm glad of him not having to go to Croydon- had to go to that depressing place to do an exam twice!

I was born in Croydon - I left when I was 18. I'd never go back unless my parents moved from the 'hole that it is  If Lewis stopped there for more than about 20 seconds, he'd be left with the monocoque and that would be it

Isn't it wierd how - even though it is shunned by racing drivers - many of us here have at some time or another been to Croydon. (Mostly only to swear never to return.)

I'd postulate that on the flip side , nearly all F1 racing drivers have visited Hungaroring, but only a very small percentage of posters here have done the same.

You'd think that us F1 fans would go where the drivers go, but...no, we jus' hang around in Croydon waiting for 'em to turn up. :drunk:

He wasn't in Bath either. But I couldn't have gone to not see him because I was working. So not all bad. Or not. :drunk:

I was about to post that he hadn't come to Greenwich either but my internet isn't working very well at the moment and then I heard a knock at the door, and when I opened it Lewis and Nick came in with a bottle of champagne to celebrate moving in. Which was nice of them: I mentioned moving when I spoke to them in Monza, but assumed it was just small talk ("What have you been up to lately?" "Building a house. You?" "Trying to win a World Championship." "Oh: you're keeping busy, then?" "Kind of, yeah").

I put it with all the other bottles we've received and made them both a cup of tea (Lewis is quite partial to green tea, but I told him I haven't had time to buy all the frou-frou stuff for the house yet, so he'll have to make do with normal tea), but they couldn't hang around for long because Nick was moving into his new place and his brother was giving him a hand by driving the van. I gave them a bottle of champagne from the pile to celebrate, but at least it was a different one than the one they gave me.

Oddly enough, when I walked down the road to get the paper a little later I saw a young kid looking very disappointed: obviously I didn't talk to him, but he may have been upset at not seeing Lewis. Although, frankly, I think it was more likely that the dismay on his face was courtesy of the bus which had just gone through a large puddle and soaked him through.

I watched my telly for a couple of hours last night and Lewis eventually turned up there. It was a complete suprise. On my telly of all places. So I think some of you are being a bit harsh. He can't be everywhere.

Well, how could he have been in Bath, as I was already there?

Ahh no, sorry, what I meant was that I had taken a bath. But, on the other hand, he couldn´t have possibly been there, as I had already taken it. Anyway, confusing as it all is, I´m still a bit miffed.

No, he was in the white van behind (it takes a while to work out the one way system around here), but he did giggle when he saw it. Nick gave him a bit of a punch in the arm for it, but even he was smirking. And to be fair, I had to walk down the laneway to avoid laughing in the kid's face. Soaked, distraught kid by the side of the road = comedy gold.

I'm sure Lewis was driving my tube from Notting Hill Gate this morning, but it turns out the driver was wearing a high-vis vest, rather than a day glo McLaren winners t-shirt.

So no Lewis in Notting Hill either.

No, sorry can't have been him, I saw him waiting for the 453 bus in Deptford Bridge* with the rest of us this morning. I remember as he jumped the queue.

*possibly worse than Croydon

"You seen that film Notting Hill? Amazing special effects! Set in Notting Hill and not a single black face in it!"
- Junior Simpson (In the same routine he confidently predicted there would never be a black F1 driver, never mind!)

Was truly disappointed last night. Saw and heard the fireworks and assumed it must be a victory parade for Lewis. Duly went out intent on inviting him for a beer.

Turned out it was just some 400 year old tradition. :(

The Cliffe society do every year. One of the many other societies got in to trouble for burning a gypsy caravan a few years back, but the Pope is fair game apparently. :drunk:

Disappointing to hear he was not in Lewisham, which is sad considering they named the town almost after him. I, however, can report that he has also not been seen in London's Oxford Street today with his girlfriend Nicole. Specifically, he was not seen shopping in Selfridges buying fashionable new season clothing or Christmas presents for his Hamiltons Familly.

Perhaps he'll get around a bit more when he gets the F1 LM.

But not much room for the shopping...

No sign of Lewis here in Fuerteventura either, did see the Harlem Globetrotters on Tuesday though.
