Nor a young lady with a "Croydon facelift" scraped-back hairstyle.

That clock tower doesn't look right either. Nice of the AI to include a big sign saying "CROYDON" though

Croydon does have a clocktower, and it is rather more impressive than that AI one.
How Lewis manages to ignore this cultural landmark remains a mystery.

I wonder what you'd call that rather out-there architectural style. Neo-Florentine?
And now I fell down the what architectural style is the Croydon Clock Tower-rabbit hole, I learn that freaking Picasso has been in Croydon............. sort of https://www.independ...rd-1609739.html

Some of the rest of that article is absolute tosh. The bit about Betjeman, for starters. 'Come friendly bombs' was written pre-WW2, when Slough was a byword for hideous modern development. Croydon was just boring, but I'm sure JB would have appreciated some of its architecture: he was the original Private Eye architectural correspondent 'Piloti'. He did write a poem about it, though - very much in his 'Metroland' mode, which celebrated suburbia.
And as any fule kno, Balham is the gateway to the South. Not Croydon.

Pevsner somewhat hilariously calls it "not a bad design even if debased in most details"

Lewis during his goodbye tour has spoken about opening up a "little" museum. Whilst it is just a brainwave at this moment during the talk with Toto (at 10m 54s), we all know he should open one up. In Croydon!

Pretty sure he'd plump for opening it somewhere in the slums of Stevenage.

Probably. Even though Stevenage's clock tower isn't a patch on Croydon's grand edifice. Although astonishingly, it is Grade II listed.

I think desperation may be setting in for the good burghers of Croydon. Their latest effort is the Playbox, am extension of Boxpark, the street food paradise where even Sir Lewis could find something to his vegan taste. And now all his favourite activities are on offer - darts, shuffleboard, karaoke, pool and a bar. Will he NEVER come?

My AI summary extension described this thread...
The forum thread humorously discusses an incident where a local radio mistakenly claimed that Lewis Hamilton would visit Croydon, leading to disappointed fans. However, users joke about how unlikely it would be for someone to visit or enjoy Croydon, often labeling it "unappealing." They then cleverly expand the conversation, listing various places Lewis "didn't visit," such as Amsterdam, Nottingham, Lewes, Leeds, and even Ayres Rock. Some users add absurdly fictional or sarcastic sightings, like crashing a UFO, driving a bus, or setting fires in Manhattan. The thread quickly turns into a satirical and lighthearted commentary about fan expectations, poor reporting, and quirky humor related to fictional Lewis sightings.

It would be amusing if one day someone points Lewis in the direction of this thread and he makes a vlog about a visit to Croydon. Although that would then be the death of this thread.

Somewhere in the depths of the thread (I can't be bothered to search for it, nor do I have the time to go through over 1700 posts) is a confirmation that Mercedes - and thus by extension Sir Lewis - were very much aware of its existence.

No axe throwing or beer pong? I gather they're both very in vogue. Bath is another place Sir Lewis has avoided, but its branch of Boom Battle Bar has both of those, plus augmented reality darts, karaoke, crazier golf and shuffleboard. Croydon is a notable omission from the company's list of branches - but they do have one in Stevenage!

I think they need to add in sky diving and surfing if they truly wish for a Lewis visit.

It is for that very reason that I have not utilised the one favour I have from someone who knows his dad. Though i have been tempted.
For all we know Lewis is already watching and laughing. Though I suspect that if he were, he'd post on social media...from Croydon....

So you’re telling us Lewis not only has cruelly deprived Croydon of his august presence, he is actually fully aware of the anguish he is causing, and rather than rectify it, chooses to laugh at the misery of the inhabitants?

I disagree -- the importance of Croydon is the complete absence of romance attached to it. I don't know whether Italians are capable of this.

Oh dear, it is all going pear-shaped in deepest Sarf Lundun.
Apparently, rather than Croydon becoming a new Silicon Valley, in fact hundreds of businesses are shutting up shop.
And the Mayor (who was elected in 2022, the first time the borough has had an elected mayor) has presided over an alarming descent into debt and potential bankruptcy.
Where is Sir Lewis when Croydon so desperately needs a White Red Knight to save it? Piddling around on his holibobs in Italy. He needs to get his priorities right!

Speaking as a Croydon resident the council and the Whitgift Foundation (who own a lot of land and commercial space in the borough) have been in a decade long competition as to who can be the most incompetent.
The town could do with some of Hamilton's stardust.

As a result of looking at local Croydon news for this thread, I now get regular Croydon stuff in my feeds.
And it seems that local politics there is a sh!tstorm of major proportions, with the elected mayor, Jason Perry, not appearing to be the great leader that a global super-entity such as Croydon deserves. Yet more reason for Sir Lewis to be the White (but identifying as black) Knight riding to the beleaguered borough's rescue

Mucho excitement when I saw this headline, but it turns out sadly to be a store in Regent's Street and not Croydon as I had briefly hoped.
"Fans reportedly camped out overnight, with some even claiming to have started queuing up at the new store from 4am ahead of his appearance."
I wonder if the original fan whose mistaken sense of location sparked this most long-lived thread was amongst the excited throng? I do hope so.
"As Hamilton was scheduled to cut the ribbon at 12pm, that left fans with a lot of time waiting on the harsh streets of London."
They should be thankful it wasn't the even hasher and bleaker streets of Croydon!

I wonder how many were there because of Hamilton the musical.
