The gearbox is fine, trust me on that. Please.

Three speed and reverse.
About 95 mph tops.
It has a nice remote linkage from the cut down original broom handle lever.
I was going to offer cheapy some more pics when we strip the front end but I think he is busy looking for the 'GAP'.

Thought you might like to see a proper beam axle car one of less than 200 made.
Colin Chapmans first real production car, the Lotus 6.

What a surprise, wrong again.

I took time to investigate the Lotus 6 today and it's a swing axle front end made up of a beam that's been cut in half and pivots added - the black bracket and tube behind are part of the chassis as seen here ... http://www.lotusdriv...Genealogy/6.php

I much prefer the F100 twin I-beam where the swing axles are longer.

F truck twin I beam though weighs about the same as that car!!

I was not suggesting to fit a twin I-beam to a Lotus 6. Just saying that the geometry is a little better than the spilt axle in the Lotus. What they should have done was split two axles and staggered them like Ford did in the F truck.

I actually considered it because of the simplicity of production especially in relation to steering, you merely widen a rack's tie rod pivot points to match the axle's pivot points. The bit of neg camber they still get probably isn't a bad thing with modern tyres either compared to back then.

But the burning question is do you put the left axle in front of the right or the right in front of the left? My Aspegers struggles with it ... :lol:

Two sets of mountings - alternate offset on a daily basis - panic over !

I think Broadley did the offset split Ford axle on his Special [ pre Lola ] - Google 'Broadley Special' - great Lola history [ can't get the link accepted for some reason -'error with the BBcode ?']

Won the Chapman Trophy with it - I bet that didn't go down well with his highness !
