GREAT NEWS for all of us Modsports,Special Saloons and Thundersaloons.
The HMSA Historic Modsports and Saloon Association have agreed that ALL eligible Historic Race Cars can now have a free choice of Engines and Gearboxes.

So now many of these lovelly old Historic race Cars are able to use the more modern Types of engines and gearboxes,

Well done the HMSA for understanding parts availability and running costs to its many members.

When do they plan on removing the word "Historic' from their name?

Perhaps the powers that be could use the Trades Descritions Act in this case, the use of the word Historic in this case is an utter disgrace.

I am amazed that this decision has been made. After all some of these cars were over-engined in the past! Slapping a newer more powerful engine in is a recipe for disaster as well as an offence under the trades discriptions act!

I don't understand.

The rules say

Engines and Gearboxes
Members must use the original period type, as used for that car when it competed within its era up until 1982.
Modifications are free, including materials.
The use of modern derevatories such as the ‘K’ series 16V and Vauxhall 16V XE Engines are banned.
Proof will be required if you are asked to show your engine was used within its old race history up to 1982.
Race fuel is allowed.
Safety equipment is free.
All engines and gearboxes must be located in their original build positions.
Nitrous systems are prohibited. However, fuel injection systems pre-1982 are allowed.
No sequential gearboxes may be used.

rather than allowing later engines they appear to specifically ban them!

Perhaps Silkolene should explain what he meant?

Not for the first time Silkolene, whoever he/she is, has lobbed a grenade into this forum. If it amuses him/her, fine, but unlike Duncan, I couldn't be bothered to read the site he/she had linked which seems to be directly at odds which the post it was part of. Now that I have, I also cannot see where the "free-for-all" idea came from.

Who knows when and where the rule ''change '' comes from, but it being that time of year we may speculate on an AGM with the web site running behind the reality.
That having been said in the light of the MSA some years ago insisting that the Historic Replicas series change its name perhaps they will take the same line with this......words escape me

Good race cars and drivers should be developed throughout their life and should not remain stuck in limbo like some of the less developed cars and drivers are.
Many Modsports,Special Saloons where the ultimate development of its day for that particular Marque, these race cars should still be developed further and I am amazed at the small, petty minded individuals who live in time warps, mind you thats of no supprise, many of these drivers could not handle any more power.
As far as Historic goes, many of these fabulous cars are Historic Race Cars with more competitive winning race history than many of the more mundane race cars.
Like many of their owners these poor little cars lost the sparkle to be competitive,so remained pre 1966 and so cars and drivers where detuned to cater entering in the likes of Goodwood, where they could only be competitive against each others detuned race cars.
I believe the many owners of these more mundane cars are slightly Green with envy that they do not own true FAST race cars that have no hope whatsoever of ever keeping up with the ultimate developed Modsports and Special Saloons.
Watching these part time parade racers at Goodwood and other places competing in their slightly modified cars makes one realise that its only the Big Boys who play with serious race machinery and are intent on winning.

So if you want to know what real racing drivers do,they race Modsports,Special Saloons,Thundersaloons,GTs,Silouettes,Touring Cars and the like, not pretty little, back of the grid, show and no go cars.

So Respect other drivers and their proper developed race cars and shut the **** up.:D

Where does this rubbish come from.
If you want to race pretend Historic Cars get on with it and leave those who race actual Historics to do their thing .

None of the drivers are top line as they are past it or never had it and its a Hobby .

Why the chip on the shoulder and even I see the enjoyment most get from being involved with Goodwood.

You do not have to join in so don't if you have a problem

By the way which car did you race or enter at Goodwood to lead you to these conclusions or is it just plain envy?

Seem to remember in period the Mod Sports and Special Saloon were driven by the nearly men.

This is the Nostalgia Forum so why do you bother to post when you have so many alternative places to go and have a stir.

My 4 December post (no 8) refers.

Edited to ad that I agree with John Ruston who, unlike some, also seems to use a real name to back his views, not a geek's tag.

This could be nothing more than a money issue by the organization.

Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR), with whom I raced with from the mid 90's until 2005 have always had "relaxed" rules and have increased their membership (and $$$) at least 10 fold during the past 10 years.

They now bring in excess of 350 cars to some events.

And, that is a group that likes to party! :cat:

Ironically, I find a "geek's tag" more memorable than the real handle, unless of course you happen to be Jerry Entin, Doug Nye, Don Capps or another stellar TNF'r! I was never any good at remembering names anyway, Allan! (I do like "geek's tag" though!)

Oops!

Tony Gallagher.

I think it comes from the pub, if you note the post time. Probably via the "chip" shop. Most of this blokes posts contain or end with irrational abuse. :cat:

Well, I really feel humbled in the presence of one of the Big Boys, the Real Racing Drivers...

Isn't it funny, how obvious it is WHO's the one who's REALLY green with envy?
