Ms. Vaughn is still with us and recently inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (2007).
WOW, she still gets things flowing.

While I've never met her face-to-face, I do recall seeing her at any number of races going back all the way to her Miss Hurst Shifter days. For a lady who's darned close to my age, she still looks awfully good.
For all her obvious charms, my impression is that Linda has always been a real down-to-earth Georgia gal who was, and still is, very well-respected among the racing community.

Along those lines, 10 or so years ago Linda was at the Milwaukee CART race. Sunday morning Fr. Phil DeRea, the series Catholic chaplain, always has Mass in a conference trailer. This particular morning I was walking into the trailer when who should be right behind me but Linda Vaughn. She was wearing a signature tight white sequined jump suit with cleavage all the way down to there. As she came into the makeshift chapel she demurely pulled the zipper all the way up to her chin. Must have been a strain on the zipper, but it held all the way through Mass.Originally posted by Lotus23

Then again corporate identification is always very effective when attached to curvaceous bodywork.
Correct me if I am wrong but your pic of the Ford F3L appeared as a centrefold in the restyled Motor Racing magazine during 1968 did it not? There were other such shots during the year but sadly the mag folded soon after.

Thirty five or so years later I was at one of the Bakersfield Hot Rod Reunions, where Linda was the grand marshall. Sunday morning was very cold and I went into the media trailer to get some hot coffee. Linda and her mother were the only people there, so I approached them and asked if she would sign a book for me. We had a delightful conversation about the Hurst days, and she said that quite a few veterans had told her over the years that she was one of the positive memories of their military days. Her mother was a nice little elderly lady who obviously took pride in her daughter and said that she had made all of Linda's costumes during the Miss Hurst Golden Shifter days. Linda still attends car events in Southern California, and I've never heard anyone say a less than complimentary thing about her.

Linda Vaughn as seen at CART Race at Elkhart Lake in 1983.
As has been said Linda was Miss Hurst Shifter and a very good ambassador for the girls who were to come after her in Motor Racing.

Crew member at Elkhart Lake taking a break before coming back to work on car.
This is a typical crew member as seen at Elkhart Lake for the Vintage racing. I usually bring 3 with me.
Dave Kane is known to travel with 4.

During the week of the Las Vegas Formula 1 car park 'event' (sorry, Grand Prix) in 1982, Salazar and I encountered the good Ms Vaughn at a party somewhere or other. We had a good laugh as she was good company, and hopefully were we too. We all hooked-up again thereafter with the result that Linda, ultimately, became enamoured by Eliseo and - as his resilience towards the fairer sex was somewhat weak - she duly pulled him. The photo Jerry posted could offer-up a couple of clues as to how my flat-mate succumbed to this entrapment...

On the Monday morning following the GP we had to get our flights back to Blighty, and whilst I was all packed-up and ready for the off there was no sign of ESV. Until I received a strange phonecall, that is... [in a hushed voice] "Mate, you have to rescue me - I'm trapped! I'm calling from the phone in the bathroom; I've locked myself in because she won't leave me alone..." And so I duly packed his bags and headed-off to the place of his imprisonment in order that we had half a chance of catching our first flights back home.
'Salad-bar' now rescued, we made our flight to LA, but weren't all that popular with the cab driver as we couldn't afford his tip!

Them were t'days...

I was at that race also - don't have a tale like yours, certainly - and took a photo of Ms. Vaughn during qualifying. I like the photo except for the fact that Bruce Jenner's arm partially obscured all of Ms. Vaughn's attributes (I was unable to get a better angle). She is just naturally good looking - doesn't need a lot of makeup - and, somewhere, I've got a small collection of photos of her I clipped out of magazines and race programs. She definitely got better looking as time went on and I've always been a big fan. A great ambassadoress of motor racing - great looking and sincerely enthusiastic about the sport.Originally posted by Twin Window

Oddly enough, during the past 30 years of working in the medical business, I've done hundreds of physical exams on female patients with no more emotional involvement than if I were checking the transmission fluid on a '52 Chevy. Surprising how one can disassociate one's emotions like that.

Ahhh yes, where have they gone, the days of fashion, style and real class?Originally posted by Lotus23
All this salacious chatter reminds me of Road Atlanta in the early 1970s, when the haute couture see-through blouse, coupled with the fashionable no-bra look, left very little to the imagination...the wet T-shirt was almost modest by comparison. Fond memories of days gone by!

Which do you think are the flameproof bits of her rather fetching marshall's outfit?
