Description: This special BMW 320 STW had to start in the back of the field because he had some bad luck with his qualification. But if you could see it didn't matter.

I enjoyed that, especially the scream of the gearbox.
In this one the car is a lot faster than the rest, I like a lotus elise race at Mount Panorama, where the guy is awesome, his car is a little slower in a straight line than those around him

I've watched this clip a hundred times, and me and my friends had an argument what exactly caused the high pich noise. I argued that it was the gearbox itself that made the noise while my frield argued that it was the transmission-line since the pitch increased with the speed of the car.

Having watched it now again, four years later or something, I've changed my mind. I'm now convinced that the noise is not fromn the gearbox itself, but most likely from the driveline exaggerating the noise through straight cut gears.

It could be that the differential was on the way out!

You were right in the first place. It is the gearbox and the sound comes from the straight cut gears. It increases because it is produced by the low-revving cogwheels on the transmission shaft side.

Look with IE?

Right Click. Save. Firefox, Opera or IE should not matter.

Nope, IE is not needed... Firefox 2 + Windows Vista (Ultimate) + MediaPlayer 11: works perfectly.

I had to turn it off, the noise was too high for my ears.
