Its a relitively new thing, but there has been a number of F1 Demo Runs overthe last few years. I was wondering if we could put together a list of F1 Demo Runs, which states the driver, team, location and the date or year of when it happened (or even future ones), Also images would be absolutley fantastic aswell. I have always wondered about these Demo Runs and how many have actually happened, I have also done this as I was looking at the Ultimate Test Driver Thread and some of them were Demo Runs.

Thanks for Posting, Jeordie

Keke Rosberg drove an McLaren in Yugoslavia in the mid 80s. Michael Schumacher was driving around the Brandenburger Tor in his Benetton in 1994 or 1995 I think.
We have the Renault shows in the last years in many cities around the world.
Red Bull was in Columbia with Albuquerque in 2008.

Keijo Rosberg, the 1982 World Champion, was busy at the weekend on the Grobnik circuit at Reijeka, Yugoslavia, demostrating a McLaren-TAG Turbo F1 car during the 500cc World Championship motorcycle race meeting.

Autosport 21st July 1988.

So are you just looking for F1 demonstrations at Club Race Meeting, round city centres, etc or do you include open test days?

And do your demonstartions include Historic F1s or are you looking for the then current cars only?

erm, well mainly the proper F1 demonstrations in public places and race circuits for people to see. I also am interested in the historic ones.

P.S who's John Bosch?

It would indeed be interesting to see a list of such events. Just a few that come to mind in random order:

- Nick Heidfeld's now famous run at the Nordschleife in 2006
- The annual Bavaria Street Racing event in Rotterdam, held since 2005
- There was a stand-alone demo by Williams at Zandvoort in 1997. The Malboro Masters at the same circuit have been enhanced by F1 demo-runs several times. I think the same goes for the DTM races at Zandvoort.
- The truly bizarre Ferrari demo at Barbados in 2006
- Heidfeld running his BMW on a frozen lake at Sankt Moritz in 2006 or 2007
- Coulthard driving the Singapore streets at night to promote the inaugural GP there. Red Bull also did demos in Bratislava, Sao Paulo and many other places I'm sure.
- Renault demos in Moskow and at Zolder, among other places.
- Hamilton at this year's race of champions
- Robert Doornbos racing over the 'Afsluitdijk' in the Netherlands
-There was also a surreal demo with several older F1 cars at an industrial estate in Veghel, the Netherlands called the Vudel Full Throttle Day in 2007.
- Christijan Albers raced an F16 fighter plane with his Spyker at some promo event.

Again, these are just a few random examples. There must be many, many more.

During 2004 7 or 8 teams ran cars up and down Regent Street in London and allegedly 500000 people attended. It certainly felt like a lot were there !!

Jacques Villeneuve did a run in Hyde Park in the BMW Sauber during 2006

mpep82, your list is great, but concerning these two entries I'm not sure about their cars. The 'Red Bull' car was something strange, and some Russian forum contained the information that it was a repainted Toro Rosso. I'll look it up and will share a couple photos later today. Will also try to check that Williams.

Regards,
Alexander.

Some of the teams (including I think McLaren, Brabham and Hesketh) took part in a demonstration run at Fuji - I think it may have taken place in late 1974. Does anyone have more details on this event?

Damon Hill did some laps of Thruxton in 1993 - he was due to do them at 25th anniversary historic meeting in the spring but the car had a problem, so came back at another meeting later in the year. I don't have any photos, only video.

He also demo'ed the Arrows at Brands in 1997, but IIRC only did two laps and no flying laps due to "testing" restrictions or some such nonsense.

I reckon no GP car has ever done more demo runs with more different drivers than the ubiquitous BRM V16?
I've seem Oliver, Fangio, Stewart and Gerry Marshall behind the wheel; how many more can be named?

Didn't Damon drive a RenaultF1 past No10 in 2006?

Wasn't there also any IndyCar drivers in this event?

Here are two pictures from the event in Moscow last year. The official name was 'Moscow City Racing powered by Bavaria', took place on July 13, 2008.

The Red Bull car driven by Mikhail Aleshin indeed looks like it was a Toro Rosso STR-01 painted in Red Bull trim (with additional Lukoil advertisements on a rear wing). The trailer used by the team has been painted in Toro Rosso colours.

Williams car looks to be an FW29 painted in 2008 livery. Driven by Nico Rosberg.

A Dutch racer who has access to Ferrari's. I'm not sure if they are his, his families or from a wealthy benefactor.

I remember him from FF1600 in the early 80's when he was towards the sharp end of the grid and I was trying to get further away from the back end :)

The BRM V16s have run many demonstrations I suspect.
How about..

1968 Graham Hill at Kyalami
1969 Jackie Oliver at Oulton Park (I think)
1985 Nick Mason & Tom Wheatcroft at Silverstone

In 2008, Marc Hynes demonstrated a Jaguar Formula One car at the Masters Racing Club event at Brands Hatch.

There weren't Jaguars in 2008 so I can only assume that was the PF1 car which is based on the old Cosworth powered R5s?

It was an old Jaguar-Cosworth in the Palmer Sport livery.

Thruxton late 1975 ( November ) , James Hunt demo'd the Hesketh in a vain attempt to generate sponsorship to carry on into 1976.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the BBC show this live on Grandstand in the days before they decided that motor sport of any kind was elitist regardless of the fact that they were perfectly happy to show the nags at Ascot with attendant titfer wearing hangers on until recently ?

Didn't Mark Webber drive an F1 car across the Sydney Harbour Bridge a couple of years ago?

The Pampas Bull at a Coys a few years back ? Roasted it if I recall ? Or is my memory more hazy than it feels...

Yes, I remember seeing some photographs from the Thruxton event.

P.S who's John Bosch?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John Bosch was born on april 1 1964 and started karting at an early age. In 1982 he raced a Van Diemen Formula Ford in the UK entered by his family-owned Barron Racing team that was at that time managed by Kees van de Grint, who had previously designed the McGregor FFord - raced by John's brother Glenn - before Barron ran a Ralt driven by Michael Bleekemolen and then Roberto Moreno in British F3.

John stepped up to European F3 in 1983 with Barron, but was terribly injured in practice for a German F3 round at Mainz-Finthen airport. He went off on oil and crashed into a landing light, crushing his feet. He returned to European F3 at the start of 1984, but it soon became clear that he could not operate his shattered feet in a narrow single seater. Following a final test in one of the Barron's F3000 Tyrrells he gave up and he and Barron switched to rallying. John was succesful in the Dutch and European championship, driving a Audi Quattro, a VW Golf and then a BMW M3. He stopped rallying in 1992 to concentrate on his businesses, after the Nissan Sunny with which he moved up to the WRC proved to be a disaster.

Having started collecting Ferarri's, he returned to racing (for fun) in 2000, entering the Ferrari 360 Challenge and numerous historic events. John won the Ferarri Challenge in 2002 and accepted an offer to join Jan Lammers' Racing for Holland team for 2003. With Jan he won the FIA Sportscar Championship and finished 6th overall (4th in LMP1) at Le Mans. In 2004 he and Barron ran the new GT1 Ferrari 575 GTC, John finishing second in class in the Sebring 12 Hours and the inaugural Le Mans Series.

That same year he did the first of two Ferrari F1 demonstrations during the Marlboro Masters. He was quite quick, setting a 1.21,7 in a F2002, which was a second faster than Christijan Albers' time in a 2005 Minardi a year later and 0.9 seconds slower than Luca Badoer's lap record.

John returned to historic racing in 2005, winning his class in the FIA historic F1 championship with a Ferrari 312 T3, and did Le Mans again with Jan Lammers (finishing 7th overall), but has not raced much over the last two years.

I definitely remember the Arrows demo- as you said he only did a couple of laps in the Arrows. Did he do a number of demonstration laps in a road car of some kind as well?

I've got a vague memory that the Sun newspaper ran a promotion offering free tickets for the meeting if you collected vouchers from that week's papers, but don't recall what the specific race meeting was- historics I think, posibly an HSCC meeting?

Another vague memory- I'm sure I've seen a McLaren demonstrated (Hakkinen I think) at Silverstone during the early 90s, I don't remember the exact year or meeting, but it was while they were still Marlboro-bcked, 1992/3 at a guess. I think it was a meeting on the 'national' circuit, and McLaren may have been testing on the 'South' circuit during the meeting. Can anyone confirm it?

Your post has triggered me to remember another McLaren demo run - I'm sure in either 95 or 96 they held a demo "race" around the factory perimiter against a Penske Indycar. My mind says it was Mika Hakkinen and Al Unser Jr. driving but I'm not at all certain.
