This is the Associated Press account:
By Jorge Sainz, Associated Press Writer
MADRID — Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher was slightly injured Wednesday in a motorcycle accident in the Spanish city of Cartagena, an official said.
Schumacher fell during a private testing session of superbikes at a race track and was later hospitalized, said an official with the Murcia regional health department. The health official spoke on condition of anonymity, in line with department rules.
The official did not give details but said Schumacher's injuries were not serious, and that he remains under observation at Virgen Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia. Cartagena is located in Murcia.

He got through 16 seasons in Formula One with only a broken leg to show for it.
The bikes appear to be quite a passion for Schumacher, and he's entitled to do what makes him happy in his retirement.
But I'd hate to see him hurt himself badly.
He's 40 after all, and although he still appears very fit, injuries and breaks take longer to recover from the older you get.
And you don't want a head injury at any age.

Really? That isn't really a minor injury as suggested in the AP piece.

Is she prepared to give up horse riding?

From Michael's website:
11/02/09
All-clear after biking-accident
Michael is fine after an accident in Cartagena.
"Today I had an accident at the biking tests in Cartagena, and to be safe I went to a hospital. I was driving down start-finish and when breaking into the first corner I hit some bumps which made me fall. The checks in the hospital showed nothing and I am fine."
Edit: According to reports he landed on his head, so it must have looked indeed pretty scary.

A minor high speed shunt in a car is an uncontrolled ride with a sudden stop, that 99 times out of 100 they will walk away from. The equivalent on a bike is skidding along on your back hitting bumps, kerbs, barriers or anything else that is in the way, and quite possibly getting flipped like a rag doll. The risks for a biker are far far higher.

Absolutely. Schumi may get a lot of enjoyment from riding bikes, but IMO he is exposing himself to far greater risk of serious injury.
He's made his millions and can do what he wants, but it is more dangerous.

A spokesperson for the former Ferrari driver told autosport.com that despite widespread media speculation that Schumacher had been knocked out in the crash, 'he was definitely not unconscious when he was brought to the ambulance'.

"Er wurde zwar sofort in die nahe Klinik Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia gebracht. Aber ernsthafte Verletzungen konnten dort zum GlĂ¼ck nicht festgestellt werden. Deshalb konnte er das Krankenhaus schon wieder verlassen – angeblich mit einer Halskrause."
Or... "He was taken straight away to the nearest clinic.. in Murcia. But luckily they didn't find any serious injuries so he was able to leave the hospital again, allegedly wearing a neckbrace."

That doesn't mean he wasn't knocked out. Another sources say he was unconscious for less than a minute, so I guess he was out for a short time but was awake when brought to the ambulance, as the quote says.

Being knocked out for any period of time is very bad for you.
Even if it is less than a minute, it is still hitting your head hard enough for your brain to shut down for a time.
Not good.

Now that we know he had absolutely none of those injuries whatsoever, those media organisations who reported broken arm and ribs should be remembered for what they are, and the credibility they dont have.
Stupidly, several of those who reported the supposed fact of the broken arm and ribs also mentioned at the end of the article that he was checked at the hospital and no injuries are found. Any journalist with any integrity should have killed the sensationalist headlines at that point.
This article in The Sun (UK) is typical...
The seven-times Formula One world champion was knocked unconscious and suffered two broken ribs.
Schuey, 40, also injured his neck and wrist after falling from his motorbike at a speed track in Alicante, Spain.
...

To be fair, it was an evolving story which was initially sourced from people within the hospital.
In this internet era being first is everything.
Have you watched Sky News? Never wrong for long...

Well, since Roland and Ayrtons deaths, there has only been 1 more in MotoGP. Remember the equipment used in motogp these days is all about safety too.

While that's true, it never stopped me from hopping unto a bike either, especially after an accident.Originally posted by Chubby_Deuce
There's a much higher rate of minor injuries for sure. Broken bones are a regular occurrence, as is riding with said injuries.
My common response to my concerned mother was always the same: "There are statistically more people getting injured or die in household accidents than anything other. So I'd better get out than stay home."
And I know the counterarguments to this.

That's Schumacher's argument also when he is asked about it.
