Not long ago I posted the news that Ken Norris, co-designer of both of Donald Campbell's Bluebird record breakers had passed on. Sadly, on Friday his brother "Lew" also left us.

Lew' was no less of a design genius, but chose to take a back seat while Ken dealt with the press, seeing that if they both were distracted, the business would suffer, and as he said to me, "and we needed that to eat!".

Both worked on Bluebird CN7 and the K7 hydroplane as well as work for BRM, and it was Lew' and a member of Norris Bros staff that came up with the inertia reel seat belt, thought up in the spur of the moment to placate the head of Britax, as another project for them, had overun. He once said to me, "every time I get in a car, I put on the seat belt and think, 'we should have kept that!'".

Another link with the past gone.

Hello Steve,

Sad news indeed. I knew Ken quite well, but only met Lew once when both were at Beaulieu to help formally present CN7 into the ownership of The Science Museum.

Another link broken.

Regards. Ian.
