Hi,

Does anyone know where I maybe to get hold of the 45 single recording (or any recording) of the John Player Special Team Lotus Song released in 1972/3? Unfortunately I do not remember the title only some of the lyrics. The song can be heard a few minutes into the famous "If You're Not Winning, You're Not Trying" John Player Special Team Lotus Video/Documentary. I noticed a copy of the record on ebay a while ago and foolishly did not bid; regretably I have not seen one since...

I would very much appreciate any help anyone could offer. Thank you very much in advance.

An interview with ex-Team Lotus buyer Luke Watson (who wrote, played drums on and co-produced the record) will be contained within my forthcoming DVD release of the Lotus 72 story.
There will also be a video to accompany the 'song'.
For more information on the video, go to this page on my website : http://www.users.glo...2_dvd/index.htm
It also contains some scans of the actual record and sleeve artwork. No idea where you could get a copy these days, maybe Classic Team Lotus?

Sorry ; a-side was 'The Champions' and the b-side was 'Workin al'nighter'.
Forgot to mention that Luke has given us permission to use his un-released demo of the a-side as well as the commerical recording.

Err not sure I should admit this I have a copy, I bought it when it was released, I'll try and find it, it may be in the loft so bear with me for a day or so, I'll scan the cover and convert the tracks to MP3 and email them to you, if thats what you want. I'd rather like to keep the disc as part of my collection of Motorsport memorabillia.
It goes along the lines of:
We are the champions
The new world champions
da da daa da daa
with the sound of a DFV at full chat every so often.

I'd still much perfer that to "Back 'ome" by the England World Cup squad, or any football team FA cup offering!

A quick Google turned this up, so if you go to the Classic Team Lotus website you can buy a copy for £60

The double A side (!?) of 'Champions' and 'Working' al' nighter' was a great idea that captured the spirit of the team an, indeed, F1 in the funky 70's. As Team Lotus mechanics throughout the years will testify it is entirely appropriate that the two titles went together.

In 2004, at the 50 Years of Team Lotus Celebration Dinner, one of the 'vocalists' gave 50 copies to Classic Team Lotus to do with as it saw fit.

Classic Team Lotus is pleased to offer them for sale at £60 each, numbered and signed by Hazel Chapman, Peter Warr and Eddie Dennis with all proceeds being forwarded to the Grand Prix Mechanics Trust.

That would have been Luke Watson.

I saw it :)
unfortunately, I don't even have a functioning record player any more - I didn't know my son had knackered the needle until the record turned up in the post and I went to play it........

 I've found it
Please bear in mind it's been through two house moves and spent over 30 years in the loft, so it's a bit tatty, here goes, the front cover.
Looking at the cover I bought it from Beaties the Model shop, I reckon I must have bought it when I bought the JPS Lotus 72 Tamiya model, 65p for the record what a bargain  cant remember how much the model cost.

I bought mine at Silverstone in 1973, from a stall behind the Woodcote stands. It was 50p. The engine sounds on the record are actually borrowed from another recording, a 1967 LP called 'The exciting racing sounds of Grand Prix'. It is narrated by Phil Hill and has engine sounds from Monza, Monaco, Spa and Brands and interviews with John Frankenheimer and Graham Hill.

No, no nooo, not 65p for the model, christ no, that cost a bl**dy fortune in those days, cant really remember how much the model was, but I know swmbo thought it was too much
I wish mine looked that good today, it's in a box in the loft, and I think the suspension is broken. :(

Yes, mine all live in a cupboard gathering dust and gradually falling apart. Unfortunately they just take up too much space to display properly, in my house anyway! :

I have an origional of the disc still in it's origional sleeve and in mint condition! I got it at a sweet shop/tobacconsits in south London that were having a JPS cigarette promotion - I was 12 or 13 years old I think (1973).

A few years later I started working in F1 and occasionally helped with some PR stuff for John Player Team Lotus and at one function there were a load of the records there for some reason (even though it was now about 1978). I had the chance to help myself to a few (with the team's blessing) but didn't bother. Like many of the opportunities I missed in F1 in those days (due to the stupidity of youth!) I regret that now!

Adding a bit more to Lotus' historical first (and thankfully only) foray into the groovy pop music scene...

And if that wasn't enough, here are the lyrics!
