(the same company behind last weeks' Maharajah's Rolls-Royce programme).
This programme contains a wealth of rare film clips, including many home movie clips supplied by Jim's family. Contributors include Jim's sister Bettie, John Surtees, Sir John Whitmore, Sally Swart, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Andy Granatelli, Bob Dance, Cedric Selzer and of course, Jackie Stewart.
It looks like it will transmit over the coming Easter Weekend, and if it gets a big enough viewing figure, a repeat on BBC2, where it would reach a bigger audience. The programme is a fine protrait of the man. Please tell all your friends about it!
Once I get a firm transmission date, I will let you all know.
Not to be missed, believe me!

Yes thanks Gary. For sure it will be on DVD Sterl as the JYS one was. Mark Stewart told me about this film when I saw him last year, sounds great. Was Jack Sears on it too, talking about Cortina days or was that John Whitmore's input?Originally posted by sterling49
Thanks for the heads up Gary, not to be missed! I wonder if it wii be released on DVD?

I logged on this morning to post a little note about our Jim Clark doc's broadcast over Easter - and I see one has to get up early to beat Mr Critcher!
Thanks Gary for your kind comments about the film and mention of its airing. We have been given provisional date of Monday 20th, 8.00pm, BBC4 for 'Jim Clark - The Quiet Champion', though I must stress this is subject to confirmation. I'll be sure to post precise info when it's all set in stone.
Cedric, I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to speak to you / thank you last night for your contribution to the film. It was very much appreciated. It was clearly an emotional night for yourself and others.
Of all the various documentaries I've made either for MSP or otherwise, this one on Jim seemed to generate an amazing amount of goodwill and help from a large number of people who wanted to see it made. He was clearly a much-loved man and I feel the resulting film owes much to everyone's kind assistance. Many thanks on behalf of MSP and from myself personally. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and putting it all together.
Anyway, if we can spread the word and generate a few bums on seats as it were, then hopefully the film will end up on BBC2, which would be nice. Looking forward to seeing the BBCs coverage of F1 and hope that some of the new F1 audience are interested enough in finding out a little more of what Jim Clark was all about.
I'll keep you posted of any developments.
All best,
Mark

Mark, I assume it will be repeated over the following days. As I am unlikely to be in could you also post the repeat schedule?
Thanks.

The success is making a programme that appeals not only to us in the know, but also to others that have very little interest in our sport. I'm aware of several 'normal' people who watched the Graham Hill - Driven film and were very entertained and interested in what they saw. I think having access to, and opinions from family members of the time helps, but the fact that is shown in an accurate and intelligent way makes what I have seen so far stand out far above almost anything else of a similar subject on mainstream television.
I watched the Maharajah's Rolls-Royce with my wife and expected her to be doing what she normally does when this sort of programme comes on i.e. the crossword! But she didn't and I think enjoyed it as much as I did.

The latest from the BBC is that it'll be shown on BBC4 at 8.00pm on Easter Monday 13th of April.
This has yet to be 100% confirmed but we'll keep everyone posted of that and any repeat times as soon as we get them.
Apologies for any earlier confusion.

I'd just like to add my appreciation of the Maharajas' RR programme: it was a lovely social & historical commentary as well as having a lot for car nuts.
Having just returned from a wonderful holiday in south India it brought back pleasant memories - I wish I'd seen it before we went, and I might have tried to visit a few car collections!

Mark Stewart here.
Gary: Thanks for your kind note about the Jim Clark film.
JC was quite simply unique and should be remembered, which is why we wanted to tell his story. All of us at Mark Stewart Productions are delighted with the response the film has had so far and I hope that everyone enjoys it when it finally airs (still scheduled, but unconfirmed, for Easter Monday 13 April at 8pm on BBC Four).
You might be interested to note that two more of our films are also due to be aired on BBC Four over the Easter weekend: ‘Jackie Stewart: The Flying Scot’, scheduled, but unconfirmed, for Easter Sunday April 12 at 19:30; and ‘Graham Hill: Driven’, time and day as yet to be confirmed.

Motor racing film is a bit of a passion of mine and I have , and do, watch a great deal of it. Mark's work with MS Productions really stands out at once, the hallmark of the companies work is so obviously the time and care in assembling the material, it is pacy and full of real information, entertaining as well as informative.
Apart from those splendid films mentioned above (which are a must watch again), two others that stand out in the memory are :-
"Ken Tyrrell Surviving Formula 1 " from 2000
and
"A Crowning Achievement The Bahrain International Circuit " 2005 Sir Jackie takes us through the whole construction process from start to finish in 19 months with some spectacular photography and a host of interviews. The films can stand alone as being of general interest also to the non-motor sport minded viewer.
Can you give us any clues about future projects Mark ?

As well as developing new ideas we are now producing a film about Gordon Murray which will be finished in July/August. Gordon is a fascinating person. We are also enjoying filming a dragster racing project in the Middle East. Dragsters are a big deal over there.

I have no idea how the machinations of the BBC work, but I would hope it would be possible to have a word with those who know to ensure a trailer or at least a word from the hosts could be included in the broadcast. A weekend indulgence of "Great British Racers" surely deserves a mention.Originally posted by Stopwatch

While everyone was trying to fathom how the Brawn could be that good and the McLaren was really that bad, there was a poignant window of reflection into the past in a little reflection corner of London last week, with a screening of Jim Clark: The Quiet Champion
*snipped*
Word is that the BBC is going to show all three during the coming Easter weekend. File under 'Do Not Miss'.

Two things stand out, firstly the fact that he had not heard Jim's voice before and secondly, without spoiling things, the reaction of Dan Gurney and JYS.

Thanks to all at MSP. I missed the programme on your old man, but the Graham Hill documetary was first-rate, and I can't wait for this one on the incomparable Jim Clark.
My compliments, too, on choosing Gordon Murray as a subject. A fascinating man, with a superb body of work. Should be another cracker.
Till Easter then...

MARK STEWART PRODUCTIONS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
28 March 2009, London, UK
THE THREE MUSKETEERS OF FORMULA 1 ON
BBC FOUR: JIM CLARK, GRAHAM HILL AND
JACKIE STEWART
Three documentaries produced by Mark
Stewart Productions, "Jim Clark: The Quiet
Champion'", "Graham Hill: Driven" and "Jackie
Stewart: The Flying Scot", will be shown on
BBC Four over the 2009 Easter weekend.
These motor-racing musketeers won seven
Formula 1 world championships between 1962
and 1973: two each for Clark and Hill and three
for Stewart. At a time when "sex was safe and
motor-racing was dangerous", the young
drivers were rivals and yet close friends, their
stories often intertwined; but, as these
intimate films clearly demonstrate, these were
distinctive individuals whose lives unfolded in
very different ways.
JIM CLARK: THE QUIET CHAMPION
1 x 59 minutes
Currently scheduled (but not confirmed) for:
7.00pm, Easter Monday 13 April 2009 on BBC
Four
An intimate portrait of Jim Clark, one of the
most talented yet enigmatic sporting figures
that Britain has ever produced. Combining rare
archive film with the memories of family,
friends and rivals, the film provides a moving
portrait of a motor-racing genius, tragically
killed at height of his career.
At the heart of the film are family home
movies of Clark's life in the Scottish Borders;
and an exclusive hoard of 'lost tapes' - candid
interviews with Clark conducted by his close
friend Graham Gauld during the mid-1960s -
which show the shy driver in a surprising new
light.
Apart from the rare experience of hearing
Clark explain himself in his own voice, the film
offers frank comments from his friends. Jackie
Stewart, for example, remembers a string of
races where he finished second to his fellow
Scot: "We became known as Batman & Robin;
and there was no doubt which was Batman
and which was Robin."
For executive producer Mark Stewart (younger
son of Jackie), making this documentary has
been a poignant journey: "In late 1967, my
parents asked Jim to be my godfather. For
reasons we explore in the film, he never made
it to the christening - but, 40 years on and
working with my friend Mark Craig (who
directed this film), I feel as if I've finally got to
know the Jim Clark I never met."
To view a short trailer of the documentary go
to:
JACKIE STEWART: THE FLYING SCOT
1 x 89 minutes
Currently scheduled (but not confirmed) for:
7.00pm, Easter Sunday 12 April 2009 on BBC
Four
Sir Jackie Stewart - winner of three F1 World
Championships and 27 Grands Prix -will turn 70
this coming June 2009. 40 years ago, with his
black cap and sideburns and the 1969 World
Championship under his belt, Stewart became
an unmistakable icon of the 1960s.
Friend and rival Emerson Fittipaldi remembers
the period when "Planet of the Apes" - style
hair was de rigueur: "It was a fashion in the
sixties, the type of hair, the sideburns. I said,
'Why not? Jackie has sideburns and he's going
fast, I have to have bigger ones to go even
faster than him!'"
Beyond the world of motor sport, The Flying
Scot is above all a compelling human story -
and a comprehensive insight into the triumphs
and tragedies of an eventful life. Stewart's
driving career ended in 1973, at his 99th
Grand Prix, where he won his third World
Championship - and lost his friend and
team-mate Francois Cevert. The film goes on
to describe Stewart's subsequent rise as an
internationally respected businessman and his
successes with Stewart Grand Prix, his own F1
team.
The Flying Scot film includes contributions from
many friends and colleagues, including Niki
Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, Sean Connery,
Murray Walker and Edsel Ford, as well as the
last-ever interview with the late Ken Tyrrell,
without whom Stewart's career might have
taken a very different turn.
Produced by Stewart's younger son Mark and
award-winning director Mark Craig, the film is
enriched with family photographs, home
movies and scrapbooks kept by Lady Helen
Stewart, documenting her husband's career.
To view a short trailer of the documentary go
to:
GRAHAM HILL: DRIVEN
1 x 59 minutes
Currently scheduled (but not confirmed) for:
7.00pm, Saturday 11 April 2009 on BBC Four
Mark Stewart Productions' film presents the
compelling story of Graham Hill, an eccentric
and charismatic Englishman from a forgotten
era of motor sport.
To this day, Hill is the only driver to have won
the 'triple crown' of motor racing: the Formula
1 World Championship (twice), the Indianapolis
500 and the Le Mans 24-Hours race. He also
won the uniquely challenging Monaco Grand
Prix five times - all this at a time when drivers
routinely met with violent death.
Away from the circuit, the film reveals that Hill
was an accomplished raconteur, a dashing
figure with a keen eye for the ladies. In the
tradition of Terry-Thomas and Leslie Phillips,
his public persona was that of the
quintessential English cad - with a touch of
Dick Dastardly.
As described by his friends and family,
including his World Champion son Damon, Hill
was an irrepressible free spirit who simply
didn't know when to quit. Ultimately, this was
to be his undoing. . .

All three films have been made by the same
award-winning team at Mark Stewart

Craig and executive produced by Mark
Stewart.

Bit annoying, but worse things happen in the rain at Spa.

Dear all,
This is to confirm that ‘Jackie Stewart: The Flying Scot’ is being shown on BBC Four at 7.00pm on Saturday 11th April.
NB: However... ‘Jim Clark: The Quiet Champion’ and ‘Graham Hill: Driven’ are NOT being shown Easter weekend as we first thought!
They have – at the last minute – been dropped for Easter weekend and it is likely that they will now be shown the weekend after or the one after that with a repeat of the Jackie film!
I will let you know when we find out more info on the Clark and Hill film when the BBC contact us,

Jackie and Mark Stewart have just been on Radio 5 on the breakfast programme with Nicky Campbell talking about making the films etc which go out this coming weekend. They said that Jackie, Mark and even director Mark Craig are dyslexic, the extra effort that must go in , may be partly responsible for making the finished films such great quality.. definitely not to be missed.
